The American Frontier in the mid to late 1800s was a dangerous place for new settlers. But what if you were kidnapped? Today, we will explore two of the most significant kidnappings ever committed by the Apache - and their brutal consequences.
The Apache were a raiding people, with a reputation for stealth and brutality. If settlers were lucky, they got away with their property or cattle before they even knew they were there. But many weren't lucky.
Raiding societies inevitably have high mortality rates. In order to sustain their population, kidnapping their rival's children became a viable option. This is where Mickey Free and Charlie McComas come in - their abductions caused war and mystery, respectively, in the late 1800s.
Join us as we dive into the terrifying world of the Apache and uncover the stories of these two notorious kidnappings. Get ready for a gripping exploration of the Wild West's dark past - this is an episode you won't want to miss!

Agreed. So many history books try to paint the invaders as the sole wrongdoers but wrongdoings happen on both sides. Not to say the Native Americans as a whole weren't victims of western expansion, but there's always more to the story.

Hello from the other side of the world, from the Balkans. Turs had something that was called "taxation in blood", which meant that they would collect Christian boys and turn them into elite fighters, but also to educate them and allow them the possibility to thrive. Some of them became Grand Vezirs, which is No.2 in man in the entire empire?!

I live in Alpine, Texas. I recently found an eagle button off a civil war era soldier uniform, in Langtry, Texas. Home of Judge Roy Bean. I was hoping you could do a video on the history of the area from Langtry Texas to Presidio Texas and up to Fort Davis Texas. There were a lot of Apache raids around Fort Davis as well as raids around Fort Leaton, in Presidio. I figured the button was from one of the many army escorts from San Antonio, down along the Rio Grande, through Presidio and then up to Santa Fe, NM. Thanks! Scott.
