@adde95063 жыл бұрын
You are correct, but "common core math" as a term refers to the current standard of teaching math by picture. It claims to make kids understand math instead of just memorizing it. Twenty years ago, all three kids would have had the answers before Alex finished reading.

obviously as (assumedly) young adults to adults we can answer these questions but as someone else said, they're kids and they're on live TV with money on the line. There are plenty of adults who would've gotten those questions wrong, too. Don't get all high and mighty.

Adults who throw tantrums at the words "Common Core" tend to have really bad basic math skills.

I took common core and I got all of these in time

Tyler was hella rude for pressing the button when he didn’t have an answer

He probably thought he'd just figure it out while he was in the clock. Makes sense.

I could see myself doing that than having my mind go blank tbh

That's how you play Jeopardy. You always press the buzzer, and hope you can rack your brain and find the right answer in time. Checking with yourself to ensure you have the answer hurts your reaction time

This kid seriously annoyed me. Why the hell did he keep buzzing in when he wasn't sure about the answer?
@kirstinmccarty89206 жыл бұрын
Scout He thought if I buzzed in and made sure he got the right to answer he could figure it out in that time, rather than let someone else buzz in before he finished calculating.

Because he's an idiot.

I'd say it's because he gets A's in math and was confident that he could compute the answer, but the kids are not learning real math in school today.

@@TimCarter I'm sure you also didn't learn real math in school when you were in school either.

This is so sad about the USA youth not being able to do non-common core math.

Being able to do arithmetic in your head is not important whatsoever past elementary school.

@@Baconator1368 : Actually, it is. I do it every day. But I would agree that it's not necessarily important to be able to do it in five seconds!

@@Milesco My point is that if you have a calculator on hand you would have no reason to do it in your head. This is especially true considering basically everyone always has a calculator on hand (their phone).
@Milesco3 жыл бұрын
@@Baconator1368 : Yeah, that's true, but I find that it's sometimes easier and quicker to do a relatively simple math problem in my head than to fish my phone out of my pocket, swipe the screen, enter the password, swipe again to start the calculator app, and *_then_* begin to actually enter the numbers and do the computation.
