Watched the Pathfinder video first and thought I'd want to play them far more because they're so cool. But these Novitiates have so much flavor imbued into them that I've regained my excitement for the team. Chalnath's going to be a great box. Thanks for the video!

I love everything about this. Double Purgatus looks super fun. As does “all pistols are guns”. And getting like…5 CP rerolls per turn.

Having given it more thought I agree that double purgatus has a place in the roster for sure! Sadly I didn't build any, so I'll have to figure that slight issue out :p

Just remember the Pathfinder Sprue is an upgrade. So you'll need a box of Pathfinders.

Thanks for the rundown! I think the most interesting thing about Defenders of the Faith is that it appears to jump initiative order. Getting to first strike with one unit around each objective seems compelling.

Inferno isn't just a critical hit rule, though. With the ploy, it becomes a special rule, making that flamer _seriously_ scary. Hits like a bolter and every hit adds two chances for an extra mortal wound. I agree though that it's odd that you have to not use the ploy on the leader, but have to use it for the other VP... Also, you missed the Chaplet Ecclesiasticus, which seems pretty useful.

I'm curious if the "special rule" thing is a typo and will be FAQ'd. As written, you use that ploy, and it becomes Inferno 2 instead of 1 AND it stacks on every single hit, not just crits - that is pretty wild. What worries me is that the Tac Op specifies that the model has to have the inferno X special rule, but it does not mention it as a critical hit rule - so can you only score that Tac Op if you kill 2 models in one turn with your flamer AND you had used the flamer strategic ploy that turn (which only applies to one of your purgators)? That's pretty damn specific lol

I will not ignore the flamer TacOp... It's awesome... The weapon just needs to have the rule... Doesn't have to proc it.

How does Defenders of Faith work with concealment? I'm assuming the units need to already be in an engaged order, right? Because you don't get to switch their order when do shoot from this ploy...

Great rules review, as the Tau one was. One a little different question, do you cut up your Rulebook and ring bind them or do you give it to a shop to do so?

if you are having a problem getting all the speical models, all the arms fit onto all the bodies, so its not critical to fallow the instructions to the letter

I realised this after putting them together! I need to make 2 flamer sisters but don't have any more novitiate bodies so intend to just run 2 battle sisters with flamers (swapped to a 28mm base, of course!)

If you magnetised them could you get two purgatos? Or is it missing/short the parts for two? My box is reserved and I'm planning on magnetising tau and sisters (if it's worth the effort).

Looking at the sprue that's left over, I'd say that there are more than enough arms to magnetise everything, yes.

So, reading the Faithful Blessing Act of Faith, as written it only seems to work on your melee/shooting attacks since it says "When a friendly Novitiate operative fights in combat or makes a shooting attack" but does not say "when a shooting attack is made against". So it's not a true cp reroll for 1 faith point, it's a partial one, offense only. I could certainly see this getting erratad (since it mentions defense dice, which as it stands it doesn't interact with) but it's hard to say how. Maybe the reference to defense dice if left over from when it was a full cp reroll and didn't get removed when it was changed. or maybe it was meant to be a full cp reroll and the wording was messed up.

@@OldZean it's "only" one book so far the compendium has the basic sisters and this box has the elite sisters. But yes core rules for core play, compendium for all core killteams, white dwarfs for random elite killteams (admech and thousand sons so far) and every expansion box for what ever teams are in them.

I think this is gonna turn out like Krieg where a single box of sisters is mediocre/bad, 2 boxes and a full roster can be decent, maybe competitive.

Isn't glory to the martyrs useful as sisters are quite deathly? It's gonna take 2( 4ap) to contest a point held by a 3 AP marine who will use bolter discipline to kill both. You just have to accept that your team is squishy and that you can gain VP from this. This could be why you might went to take basic girls, you lose nothing special but gain some sweet VP while tying up an enemy operative and freeing up your special girls to do other things. Wasn't this what Wes was talking about and Steve from vanguard.

I'm not sure I get the Penitent's Absolution Through Destruction right? It costs 1 AP, but neither of the fight actions are free... So would you have to spend a total of 3 AP (one for ATD, one for each fight)? That would mean you could only use it if in combat and have an APL buff, say from the Exactor. Is this right? I feel like I'm getting something wrong here.

I'd imagine it's balanced around the fact that Novitiates have more methods to increase APL than any other team as far as I can remember. The Dialogus, the Exactor, and the Chaplet equipment can hypothetically bring you up to 5APL on the Penitent, letting you Charge, Fight twice, and have an AP left over to do like a mission action or something.

Hi bud. If you mean how do you get a book wire-bound, then you just have to google for local print shops or book binders near you :)

I just got into warhammer 40k and I'm starting off with killteam and I picked up noviates. It can be a hassle finding a good layout of the information for them online, and just want a paper copy like yours

This is the real adepta soriritas team. That's how the format of kill team is working. Each faction keyword from 40k (Adepta Sororitas, adeptus astartes, astra militarum etc) is getting its own bespoke team in KT. But they are in no way connected to their Compendium team of the same 40k faction.

You can certain play with normal/standard sisters and they are a distinct and reasonable option aside from these new sisters. The new sisters do not make them irrelevant in the slightest. As was mentioned, they are in the compendium (called the Ecclesiarchy) and are a more ranged/special weapon based team with high armor, different ploys, and so on. The new sisters are completely different, being a swarm of fragile melee characters... About as different as it's possible to be from compendium sisters really.

Going by the stats so far, Tau are TWICE as popular as Sisters. So I suspect you'll be able to get the sisters off ebay for an okay price (as long as 40k players don't go nuts)

I would like these models and rules but not the whole box set of extra stuff, and no main rule book in this box, makes no sense.

It's a shame, I get that but from now on I think we're only getting "expansion" boxes like this, no more "starter boxes" like octarius. Which means that when it comes to value, if you only want one of the teams, you'll have to split a box or go to eBay

It's me, or the new kill team has the exact same problem as Warcry : the unique teams have limited building options. The new Tau have more options thx to the drones, but the novitiates ? Even if the compendium have limited options compared to older version, at least most factions let you choose to 2 kill teams to build your team. The novitiates could have been a 5 sister team that can be mixed with other sisters kill teams. If you want all unique models, you just take 2x novitiates. The unique rules could work with any sisters. It's more faction rules. How kill team is build, it's not that hard to release new faction kill team build rules. I hate how the new kill teams feel like separate factions since you can't mixe them with other units.

That's part of the problem, yes. The other part is that here we get Sisters with access to the Recon Tac Ops and actual Acts of Faith rules... that can't be used with the Compendium faction. It just feels so bad to have to choose between two options that deliver some of the signature thematic bits -- either you get the signature armament (power armor, holy trinity) that make them stand out from normal humans, or you get the signature abilities (acts of faith) that differentiate them from Space Marines. But you can't get both, so neither feels like it *really* fits the faction.

These are not Battle Sisters, these are new initiates. These gals get to be Battle Sisters if they survive their time and get promoted, much like SM scouts. They are all about hurling themselves into close combat to prove themselves. It makes sense to me that they don't get bolters etc.

Not getting bolters 100% makes sense, I agree! I think I've more been questioning why the noobs get sent in to deal with the highly spec ops important missions (it's explained in the fluff, if I recall!)

Hi, maybe im not the target audience as a new player for this content, but it aint useful to not discuss x or y because you 'already went over it somewhere else', maybe your regulars are ok with that, but you arent going to get good points with new viewers like that imo
