Killing Catholic liturgy through endless changes to the Good Friday Prayer for the Jews

Appeal to Catholics: please do not wait for Francis to feed the flock, do not wait for cardinals to be courageous, do not wait for bishops to defend the Faith, do not wait for your priest to realise the traditional liturgy is his birthright. Instead, take responsibility for yourself. This Good Friday, pray the traditional (pre-1955) prayer for the conversion of the Jews. If you understand the matter, explained to some degree in this video, then do not genuflect during this prayer. It might cost you some misunderstandings with others, but it is a great act of charity. God will not ignore this prayer.
We do not have to come up with a system which everybody likes. We have to be faithful to Christ. That is the best we can do for God, for ourselves and for everyone else, Catholic or not. To maintain our apostolic liturgy and give witness to the deposit of faith is our life, our duty, our joy. If we neglect it we fail to give glory to God and we risk our salvation. The notion that the ancient liturgy can be changed to appease non-believers is insane, wholly uncatholic, a betrayal.

Traditional Prayer (until 1956 there was no genuflection in the middle).
R. Amen.
Translation.
Let us pray also for the perfidious Jews: that our God and Lord would remove the veil from their hearts; that they also may acknowledge our Lord Jesus Christ.
[‘Amen’ is not responded, nor is said ‘Let us pray’, or ‘Let us kneel’, or ‘Arise’, but immediately is said:]
Almighty and everlasting God, who drivest not away from Thy mercy even the perfidious Jews: hear our prayers, which we offer for the blindness of that people: that, acknowledging the light of Thy truth, which is Christ, they may be rescued from their darkness. Through the same Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God: world without end. R. Amen.

This prayer is deeply personal to me, a Hebrew. Hearing the original form of the prayer to the Jews on Good Friday, the night before my own baptism, cut me to the heart like Peter when the cock crowed. The prayer is not for Jewish ears, but Christian hearts. In the moment of hearing it, I knew how true it was, and how needed it is to pray. Adulterations to it are from _là Bas._

Fr. Mawdsley, yours was a thoughtful, insightful, historically-based, and charitable explanation of the changes to the Easter Triduum liturgies. I agree with you on every point. It is indeed imperative to restore this ancient liturgy for the greater glory of God and the salvation of souls, including the Jews. May you continue to bring clarity to the present chaos, by the grace of God. 🙏

I want to share my experience with you because I like your insightful comment. I have two close friends who are Jewish, they were the only ones who commented with compassion when I shared the news about being targeted, as a Latin Mass goer, by the FBI. My Novus Ordo family and friends didn’t even acknowledge my news. I’m a hairdresser and had many retired Jewish women, every week in my salon, about half a dozen were Holocaust survivors (with their tattooed arm). These women put my kids through Catholic school. I learned so much from these Jewish women (even the ones who didn’t talk about their sufferings). I’m so grateful to them for the love I feel for them. I pray for them, since I knew them personally. ♥️🙏🏼☦️

For my part Fr. Mawdsley, I have access to the "pre-1955 Liturgy" but mostly either a Sunday or a Saturday at a nearby private chapel in addition to the daily 1962 Liturgy. I left the church when I attended Public High School and when I came back ( after marriage and children of my own - my Protestant husband became Roman Catholic - I began to remember and look forward to what Latin Liturgies and especially the Lenten and Holy Week (where we all sang "At the Cross Her Station Keeping" and there were Seminarians standing , then lying down on both sides of the aisle and we would all arise from kneeling to the priest's order... "Levate!") I had experienced, and loved, as a child, but - no, - none of that was there! And when the parish was instructed to say "Crucify Him!" -- I was INCENSED; there was NO WAY I could even think this!! And so it was only phantomly experienced in my long ago memory - I felt 'robbed'...

This is personal matter for me. My sister married a Jew, and I know many Jews through her, non-observant liberals who however strongly identify as Jewish. I can corroborate that they have a habit of mocking Christ in private. Even during my time as an apostate, I found it shocking. In hindsight, their behavior may have been a catalyst for my return to the Church - God takes what is evil, and turns it to good. They accepted me when I was an apostate, but when I returned to the Church, I became dead to them. Due to my own apostasy, my eclipse from the light of Christ, and in gratitude for the graces I somehow obtained to return to him, I pray for those separated from him, through indifference, schism, ignorance, and rejection. The prayers on Good Friday are a precious jewel, that in a tiny instant in time, that they may be perfected in Christ. We must guard this great wealth and use it to buy salvation for those in darkness or blindness.

Was she blonde by any chance? ...as for them treating you differently, it sounds like my fiance with certain people, when he was atheist, no problem, even admired, after he became Christian (no other change, just that he shared that he became a Christian), a huge shift happened. There is probably a spiritual element, people more into things that are satanic/demonic/anti Christian will have a stronger reaction.

I am currently reading a book called, "How Jesus Said the First Mass," written in 1901 by Rev James Meagher. I was stunned by how much of the Mass and the liturgies down to even small details are derived from the ancient Jewish sacrifice at the Temple. It made me see the traditional worship of our Church and understand it more deeply, and appreciate it it even more as the fulfillment of the OT prophesies. The Jews lost their ability to sacrifice for the expiation of sins when the Temple was destroyed in 70AD. Catholics, until the NO (in my view) carry out the perfect sacrifice for the expiation of sins at the Mass every day. I know that non-Catholics - Protestants and Jews - were advisors to the changes that created the Novus Ordo. The changes appear to have been concentrated on eliminating the Mass as the Holy Sacrifice. Question: Is this anger or hatred directed at Catholics, not only because we know that Christ is God, but because we now practice the Holy Sacrifice, whereas they can't because they have no Temple? Just last year, attacks against traditional Catholics appeared in mainstream media like The NY Times and the Atlantic Magazine. They wrote things like how our Mass is full of hate and anti-Semitism (and how we think of the Rosary as a weapon), and how trads want the TLM back as a vehicle for hatred, and that this might lead to violence against Jews, as it has in the past. Well, that's news to us! This is insane! This is absolute libel against us! It appears that :Jewish-Catholic dialogue is a one way street. Your words about not letting ourselves to be moved from the foot of the Cross were very powerful.

@Eight-PointedStars
@Eight-PointedStars Жыл бұрын
Such places are unfitting. How foolish is that to have everything else right, but not the location! Except for certain situations, the Holy Mass should only be said in a building designed for the purpose which has been properly consecrated by a bishop. We cannot have this at this time in history, but as many as grieve this fact, it will be counted for them as if they had actually attended such a holy service. Moses grieved over the godlessness of the people of his time, knowing they would soon experience God's justice. So should we grieve, pray and wait.

Be careful about putting yourself in God's place. You have no idea that would be displeasing. God looks at the heart and soul of his sheep. One holy Latin mass in a park is worth more than 100,000 NO masses in a cathedral. Let's not forget: the angel of Fatima fed the children the Eucharist under an oak tree in a field. Same in Garabandal...children kneeling on bare rocks and photographed receiving communion no less. Go to confession and ask for forgiveness...you'll be glad you did.

That the changes in this prayer marked the very first step in the liturgical revolution perhaps sheds some light on the nature of the forces at work against the Mass and the Faith. Fr. Mawdsley, this was another tremendous and useful contribution! It has been a conviction of mine that people need help undestanding the roots of this utopian universalism and how it took root IN the Church. On the JP-II front, I just finished recording the first of four volumes by the late great Fr. Johannes Doermann, which addresses precisely this universalist cancer and JP-II's role in formalizing it. You are correct that we ought to be contrite for our sins, to feel pain in our compunction, and be humbled by it. But it is not the place of the laity to cry out "Crucify Him!" and certainly not in the liturgy (even if sometimes it is fitting in a play or movie). Even since Apostolic times the Gospel was read by sacred minister(s), ordained for this purpose. For the Gospels in Holy Week there are three voices: Christ, the Synagogue, and the Chronista. All these are for clerics (priests or deacons), albeit a few words from the Synagogue, including "Crucify Him", may be sung by a schola in polyphony. Opening it up for everyone to recite has no tradition in the Church and it is spiritually sick. I went along with it because I was born in the 70s and as children we do what we are told to do. Now I feel used and ashamed. On Good Friday we kneel before the Cross and kiss it. We do not cry for Crucifixion. God bless you.

Not sure what you are asking here. If this answers your question -- in 1969 the wreckers in Rome instructed that all the laity should cry out "Crucify Him" during the reading of the Passion in Holy Week. This was one of their many innovations. Traditionally these words would be recited by the celebrant or else sung by one of the three deacons. At some stage post-Reformation it was permitted for the schola to sing a few lines of the Passion, including this one. The idea of 'participation' has been reduced to something infantile, as if laity must engage in exterior acts or theatricals. This is contemptuous. And one of the fruits of it is having everyone cry out "Crucify Him", which I think satan enjoys hearing.

Canonisation of PPVI is a political statement rejecting the past. Canonisation of JPII is a political statement that those in power can do whatever they like to set the narrative. These canonisations are not to give us examples of holiness but are an attempt to separate the Church from the Good Shepherd. God is judge of all, including popes, and please God their souls are in Heaven. But those popes being canonised in our generation all tolerated the destruction of Tradition and pedophiles. Why are they canonised? We can pray they get to heaven but they are not examples of papal sanctity.

This is the first time hearing all of this regarding the Good Friday Prayer and Easter liturgical rites. I’m 72, a convert of 50 years, My husband is a cradle Catholic and also absolutely clueless as so much started to change when he was a young boy in the ‘60’s. We are recent attendees of the Latin Rite and are loving the beautiful, holy masses. In fact, it is changing our lives because of our witness to the prayerful model of our priests and in depth instruction during every homily. I thank God to see and experience this resurgence of the one and true Catholic faith and pray for all, especially members of my own family, that their hearts are touched the same. Deo Gratias 🙏🏻

Since Passover and Easter are drawing near, I will expose the false preachers and religions, especially Catholicism, who wickedly promote and believe that Jesus was crucified on a Friday and if you are believing this lie then you also know very little about God and scripture. Because many lack knowledge of scripture they cannot comprehend the important and explicit clues that John related in his gospel in regard to the Crucifixion and the Sabbath. This ignorance of truth certainly applies to the pagan cult known as Catholicism since they are one of the many false religions that claim that Jesus was crucified on a Friday and this is why many false Christians choose to celebrate what is known today as Good Friday. Many false preachers are clearly overlooking that the first day of Passover was considered a Sabbath day to the children of Israel since it was a day of holy convocation and no manner of work was to be done. So it was basically no different than the weekly Sabbath that God commanded the children of Israel to observe every Friday evening. You also need to understand that in a particular year when the Passover Sabbath would begin on a Thursday evening, this was then considered a high day Sabbath or a special Sabbath to the children of Israel since they would now have to recognize two Sabbath days in a row. “‘Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.” ‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭23:3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ Now to prove how the special feasts of God were to be treated no differently then the regular Sabbath and that no work was to be done, all we need to do is read what was related in Leviticus 23. Take notice that in the Leviticus 23:23-25 scriptures below, it clearly relates that a holy convocation also included a sabbath rest. ‬”Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a SABBATH-REST, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work on it; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord.’ ” ‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭23:23-25‬ ‭NKJV “‘These are the feasts of the Lord, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at their appointed times. On the fourteenth day of the first month at twilight is the Lord’s Passover. And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the Lord; seven days you must eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it. But you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord for seven days. The seventh day shall be a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it.’ ” ‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭23:4-8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ Now God commanded the Israelites to keep His Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month at twilight and the first month of the year on God’s religious calendar is called Nisan or Abib and it begins in the spring and not in the winter as our current new year does. So because scripture relates that Jesus celebrated Passover at His Last Supper with His disciples many are falsely assuming that Jesus was crucified on Nisan 15 and not on Nisan 14 and that His Last Supper had to occur on a Thursday night since He was crucified on the day of Preparation. Now before I go on, I need you to understand that God commanded the Israelites to always celebrate His Passover but there was actually a period when the children of Israel stopped keeping God’s Passover. (See 2 Kings 23:21-23.) Since the tribes of Israel had stopped keeping the Passover you can read where King Hezekiah and Josiah reinstated the Passover celebration in 2 Chronicles 30 and 35. They now chose to have the people celebrate God’s Passover at the second temple instead of at their homes since they wanted to make sure that the Israelites would stay loyal to God and His commands. So even though they reinstated the Passover celebration they actually were ignoring God’s command since they now started a tradition where many would celebrate God’s Passover at their homes on the beginning of Nisan 14 and then at the second temple in Jerusalem at the end of Nisan 14. Now because the gospels are relating that Jesus was buried on Preparation day, many false preachers and religions are ignorantly assuming that this meant that the crucifixion had to occur on a Friday, since this is the day that the Jewish people would normally begin their preparation for the weekly Sabbath that began every Friday evening. Further below I will definitely prove where their ignorance of scripture has led false preachers and religions astray but first I want you to understand that the Jewish calendar months are completely different then the Gregorian calendar that we currently use, and that the Jewish day actually ends once it becomes dark and not at midnight as our world is accustomed to. So in order to start proving why the crucifixion did not occur on a Friday I will begin by revealing how the gospel of John related some very important information that many deceived believers are not comprehending. First, take notice where John related in 13:1-3 that Jesus celebrated His Last Supper before the Feast of Passover and then understand that John was referencing the Passover celebration that would occur at the temple at twilight on Nisan 14. ‬ “NOW BEFORE THE FEAST OF PASSOVER, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God,” ‭‭John‬ ‭13:1-3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ Next, I will reveal a couple of scripture verses where John related that when Jesus was crucified it occurred during a year where the Passover Sabbath was going to occur the day before the weekly Sabbath. This would mean that you would have two Sabbath days occurring back to back and since you now had a special Sabbath occurring on Thursday evening this then meant that no work could be done on either Friday or Saturday. So since the Jewish people could do no work once their Friday began (our Thursday at nightfall), this then meant that the day of Preparation would now fall on a Thursday instead of its normal Friday. Once again, take note that when you had a Feast Day Sabbath occurring the day before the weekly Sabbath this was then called a special Sabbath or a HIGH DAY Sabbath by the Jewish people. ‬”Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (FOR THAT SABBATH WAS A HIGH DAY), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.” ‭‭John‬ ‭19:31‬ ‭NKJV‬ ‬”Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium, and it was early morning. But they themselves did not go into the Praetorium, lest they should be defiled, but that they might eat the Passover.” ‭‭John‬ ‭18:28‬ ‭NKJV‬ So notice how John 19:31 related that the Sabbath that was going to occur later that evening was a HIGH DAY SABBATH. This meant that it had to be the Passover Sabbath and not the weekly Sabbath as many false preachers and religions are wrongly teaching. This is also why John 18:28 is relating how the Pharisees did not want to defile themselves on the day that Jesus was crucified since they were desiring to partake in the Passover meal that would occur at the end of that day at the temple. So since John clearly related in scripture that Jesus was crucified on the day of Preparation and he stated that this was the day before a HIGH DAY SABBATH Sabbath then the crucifixion definitely had to occur on a Thursday, otherwise God and scripture would be lying to us. Lastly, in order to fulfill what Jesus related in the Matthew 12 scripture where He stated that He would spend three days and three nights in the heart of the earth here is a time recap of the Last Supper, the Crucifixion and His Resurrection and a complete breakdown of the three days and the three nights that Jesus spent in the heart of the earth. On Wednesday night as Nisan 14 begins this is when Jesus had His Last Supper with His Disciples. Then on Thursday morning which was still Nisan 14 Jesus is crucified at 9 in the morning and He dies on the cross at 3 in the afternoon. Jesus is then buried just before sundown on Thursday evening before the Passover Sabbath celebration begins. Jesus then of course rises from the grave early Sunday morning which is now Nisan 17. Thursday Night #1 - Passover Sabbath Begins Friday Day #1 - Passover Sabbath Ends At Sundown Friday Night #2 - Weekly Sabbath Begins Saturday Day #2 - Weekly Sabbath Ends At Sundown Saturday Night #3 Sunday Day #3 - Jesus Is Resurrected “For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭12:40‬ NKJV So Jesus died on the cross on Thursday Nisan 14 at 3 in the afternoon which was around the time that they began slaughtering the lambs that were needed to celebrate the Passover at the temple and this is why Jesus was known as the Lamb of God who was sacrificed for our sins.

Thank you Father for your teaching us about these horrible changes that are nothing more than a continual infiltration of the devil into evert aspect of our Holy Catholic Church let in by the clergy who are under his influence. What else could it be? What good comes from these changes? I will go to my death adhering to the Tradition that has been handed down to us. Eternity is a LONG time. I attended Novus Ordo masses for years and never felt right when it came to the part where we were supposed to respond: "Crucify Him. Crucify Him". In fact, I think I skipped it. My Mother taught us kids about God before we started school and then became our Catechism teacher, who was strict and insisted on perfection in our learning. I also remember hearing about "Separation of Church and State" in school at a very young age and was totally shocked. I knew something about it was terribly wrong and remember looking around at all the other kids but saw no reaction, so I kept to myself. When are people going to realize that the Mass of the Ages, the one that made Saints and all our other Holy Traditions handed down to us through the ages are the ones who made Saints and that is our calling: EACH AND EVERYONE OF US: TO BE SAINTS. I pray for our "perfidious" Roman Catholic Clergy. Blessed be God in His Angels and in His Saints.🙏🙏🙏 PS. I rarely comment but this particular one called for it.

Masses should be made when people have the time to go to Church, what is the point of making mass at 11 or 12.00 hours when people are stuck in the offices or in their work places? Moreover there should be a world wide movement to reduce Sundays working hours or to shut down completely on Sundays and allow people to go to church and to have some quality family time.

It is fine to read it -- always good to be reminded of the Gosepl. One can reflect on it, even on one's own sins. The sacred minister (deacon or priest) has the duty to chant or read it out loud so all can hear. The point is that it is not for the laity to read out the readings / Gospel / Passion; and certainly not to shout out that line as if the liturgy is a Passion play; and certainly not to shout it with enthusiasm, as if role playing Deicide. Meanwhile, it's good that you read the traditional prayer, and if possible use a pre-1955 Missal, as this informs us with the true spirit of the Triduum. God bless.

It takes us all years to get used to the liturgy. Ideally one grows up with it, but for our robbed generation, to be thrown into it (by a providential discovery) is still a great grace! So we need not give ourselves a hard time for taking time to grow familiar with it. It is so rich that it takes years for anybody. We just have to desire to go deeper and deeper, paying attention when we are there, studying and discussing what we can according to our state of life and opportunity (e.g. friends). It is wonderful you were at a pre-55. God bless you now and for next year.

I think you are right, Father. The spiritual life and the Catholic Faith and Rites given us by Christ are hinged on details. If the Church worked out details in the past, those details are significant: every word, every action conveys meaning. The wording of Sacred Scripture has specific meaning. How can the Rites and ceremonies not be given and inspired? The Novus everything is about man and what man thinks and desires in his earthly life and does not address the spiritual needs and nature of his life. How can we have Christ on any other terms than His Own? How can we have grace if our sins are not forgiven? Thank you for this and other of your videos. They are not just Traditional, but thoughtful beyond a learned delivery. The Faith suffers at the hands of man's academia and thinking as men do rather than understanding Christ's doctrines according to reason and theind of God on what has been given, NOT what man discovers. We may discover things as we learn, but we learn from what Christ gave to the Church and not, not what the Church discovers as if theology were biology.

I attend a parish where, by the grace of God, our holy priests offer the pre55. It is a life-changing experience. For the three days of the Triduum, we get to see and hear the holy bush burn, to see the column of light ascending to Sinai. I was aware of the controversies and changes regarding the prayer. I was following along in the pre-55 text, but to my surprise, one of the priests - an elderly visiting priest - intoned - "Oremus, flectamus genua..." after the traditional prayer for the Jews. I thought he made a mistake, and was taken aback by it. But from what you're saying, this was a condition of being able to observe the pre-55.
@ScriptureandTraditionFrJM
@ScriptureandTraditionFrJM Жыл бұрын
If it was 2018 or after then yes, it is possible that that apostolate was following the conditions invented by Rome. It is understandable why priests comply with this. But I think we need to be clear that the conditions are illegal bullying. They serve an ideological agenda, nothing to do with salvation. But then I think it could be the laity that lead on this. The more and more who desist from genuflecting in coming years for this prayer might begin to catch the attention of priests. This will bring discussions which can last a whole year until, God willing, more and more priests will man up and simply say the pre-55 and let the lots fall as they will. Bishops and superiors are going to look more and more unbalanced, tyrannical and perfidious if they start betraying the New Covenant this way. The laity can act well on this -- study, meditate, pray, decide, and then have an iron resolution... and charity in all things. God bless.

Most of my nieces and nephews were baptized by the deacon, pretty uninspiring baptisms in my recollection, tho I do believe valid. But my one niece was baptized by a holy Monsignor who, although slow moving and a bit sickly if I recall, walked her in his arms over to Our Lady after the baptism and held this 10 pound baby above his head and consecrated her to our Queen. I was filled with additional peace with this action. My niece today, 6 yo retains a very pious nature (compared to her other cousins) and I wonder if that is because of this lovely consecration prayer… The msgr died a couple of years later. RIP

Papal protestantism (catholicism) is a heretical utopia with the pope that pretends to be infailible and a phony and dreadful heresy made by the franks even centuries before the schism from political reasons. What was the result? They changed everything. After that, was the reformation, the second wave of protestants, after the papal protestants, where they all became popes and after the reformation, the iluminism, the atheism, communism, nihilism, ecumenism and now pacha mama, your supreme lider is praying to a pagan godess who received human sacrifices along with all the satanic religions from the face of the earth. Now you think you have gone too far? Wait until antichrist comes. The pope is a figure, a typology of the antichrist. Good job you all! Come back home to orthodoxy and stop the nonsense. E Michael Jones famously dissed the TLM movement about two years ago. I never could comprehend what he was trying to say in his talks and in his long article in Culture Wars Magazine, and frankly, I was quite put off by him. However, about two weeks ago, on his stream with Gemma O'Doherty, he made a remark that finally clarified his position to me. He pointed out that Ratzinger allowed the TLM on the condition that a revised Good Friday prayer be used, which you have discussed well on this channel. So, you get the beautiful pre-1955 liturgy, but you have to make obeisance to the Vatican II revision of our relationship to the Jews. As Fr Cekada once observed, Ratzinger was a sly old fox. It all finally made sense. it's the grain of incense we must offer to the idol to be able to worship our Holy Trinity. I anticipate that other such "accommodations will be made to the Eccleisia Dei communities re the synodal ambiguity about Gay blessings, which Bergoglio says he will leave to the discretion of individual priests.

Father, Many people claim Christianity is based on abuse and fear, such as the fear of Hell. How do I communicate to others that although I believe that Hell is real, that it is not my fear of going there that drives me to love our Father, His Son, and The Holy Spirit. Growing up the thought of Hell helped me to understand how big of a sacrifice Jesus made for us, and what He selflessly did to prevent us from ever having to go there ourselves, but I've always found it selfish to believe in God only out of a fear of going to Hell. Do you have anything to say about how to address people who dismiss Christianity because they believe it's a man made religion designed to control man, based on murder, fear, and damnation? I am very blessed to hear your words, Father. Thank you for your loyal service to Christ the True King. - Martha

To the first part: It is normal for people to start trying to live according to God's Will because they fear going to hell. This is a good beginning. It is very sensible and rational. It is petulant and pathetic to object to it (such people have big egos or small imaginations). But we do not stop there. As it sinks in how willing God is to save us, and give us Himself, then our fear of hell is taken over by a love of God and desire to be with Him in Heaven. This can happen near the outset of conversion or after many years. And in due course our greatest desire is for His glory and that other people will come to Heaven to praise Him there. As to the slander against Christianity as based on murder and fear, we should calmly realise that there are people who hate Christ and who will spit out lies against His Church. That is hard to get our heads around but it happens. And people who are poorly disposed are very quick to accept these lies. We should be calm, pray for them. It is OK to engage in conversation, but not to get into a heated talk, because that is probably their emotions in a panic as they do not want the truth. It is a miracle of grace that any of us come to Christ, to the Truth. So we can pray for the same for others. All that said, if someone is of goodwill and believes this slander, you could start asking them what they know about Jesus and Mary, and if they can find any fault in them. Nobody can. Then lead them to understand that our religion is to the invisible God through Jesus Christ born of Mary. Whatever problems they have, they cannot pin any of them on Mary or Jesus or the Father or Spirit. If they do, they are still confused. God bless!

Thank you for your prayers and for getting the book. There is a video here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h6qndJN-r83RoH0.html explaining the cover somewhat. I wish I could find another great painting which shows Jesus acting through Mary so clearly! Part of the nakedness is to emphasise the flesh, that the Son of God truly became man. As Eve was taken from Adam's side when he was naked, so the Church was drawn from Jesus' side while He was naked on the Cross. So Jesus naked as a boy reminds us of Adam naked when created, and that Jesus is the New Adam, come to fix the sin of our first parents. There is more to it, some of it said in the video. If I can find a better painting (but it has to be brilliant), then I am open to re-doing the cover. God bless!

@@ScriptureandTraditionFrJM Dear Father, I appreciate hearing your explanation for the cover. I get what you are saying, but people think if it is old “art,” it is worthy. Old or new, naked is naked. The Son of God should never be shown thus; it is immodest and indecent. There is NO NEED for Jesus ever to be portrayed naked, whether newborn, young, older, on the Cross, or by computer-enhanced images of His supposed Shroud. For example, I know you are a man, I need not/should not see you unclothed. So how could it ever be appropriate to show Our Savior this way? It is not necessary nor edifying. I believe it grieves Mary’s Heart. I wish it was not on your book cover. Your teachings are so tremendous; I truly want to thank you!

Forgive my ignorance. Is there a significant difference in the prayers pre-1962 that should have us laity significantly lobbying for the use of the 1955 version? I am relatively new to the TLM and last year while attending the FSSP they intended to use the 1955 version but were instructed early in the Lenten season to stay with the 1962. Can’t recall why they had to reverse course as we even ordered and acquired the missal for it.

There are huge differences between the Triduum before 1956 and after (including 1962). The older is vastly better. From 1956 a lot of changes were introduced which, bad enough in themselves, are preparation for the novus ordo. But go gently with 'lobbying' priests. They probably know all about this, and there are reasons they do what they do, and it is not so easy for everyone to do the 'pre-55' who wants to. So it is good to raise it with priests, but I would not push them hard on it. Bishops should be pushed harder. And any priest or bishop who is actively trying to prevent it is acting against salvation. Although multiple approaches are good, what would speak volumes is if people make a huge effort to attend the traditional Triduum, so that they are literally spilling outside of the churches that offer it. And if it is the pre-55 Triduum, then spilling out in big crowds. It is worth taking a 3 or 4 day vacation and travelling a long way with the family to be there. Hope this helps!

Thank you Father, this is obviously very important and your explanation was clear and charitable. You’re a blessing to the church. 0:01 One question re: the genuflection. Aren’t we genuflecting towards God with these prayerful petitions on Good Friday? So wouldn’t we want to genuflect in devotion and honor towards God so that he would hear and answer our prayer?
@ScriptureandTraditionFrJM
@ScriptureandTraditionFrJM Жыл бұрын
Yes, that is the basic reason for genuflecting. However, for the last of the 12 prophecy readings at the Easter Vigil, the usual genuflection is also left out because the reading speaks of king Nabuchodonosor making a golden statue for idolatry to which all had to bow down -- of course Sidrach, Misach, and Abdenago refused to bow down and therefore were thrown in the fiery furnace. They survived miraculously. But the Church traditionally has no one genuflect after this reading, although they do for the first 11. It is a way of showing that we detest idolatry. This STRENGTHENS the prayer. And so on Good Friday, the lack of genuflection shows we detest the mockery of Jesus. This also strengthens the prayer. God bless.

In our diocese last year, the Benedictine prayer for the Jews was dropped and substituted by the following prayer: "Let us also pray for all who suffer from Covid-19 and the families who are severely affected by the pandemy, may the Lord strengthen them and console the relatives of those affected. (The kneeling part is suppressed throughout the entire intercessory prayers). Almighty and Eternal God, grant assistance ever for the victims of Covid-19 and families affected by the pandemy so that in their sufferings they may remain faithful to you. Through Christ, our Lord. (Through Christ, our Lord is used throughout in place of the trinitarian ending) The same prayer will most likely be repeated this year.

One can pray any prayer any time. But this prayer is meant for Good Friday, and it is meant to be prayed by the priest at the altar during the Solemn Liturgy. The faithful do best to be present and have a true understanding and an ardent heart. As it takes years and years and a lifetime for us to gain a truer and truer understanding, then that is why we have the Triduum every year, so we can slowly improve. For the same reason we have the chance to grow in love. Every day we can grow in love of God and neighbour, and every week, and every month, so that when we are present at the Triduum, our prayers carry great weight with God. So although anyone can add whatsoever good prayer intentions they have to their daily prayers, what I am asking in relation to this prayer is that it be done properly on Good Friday. That is when it matters most. And I hope from this we also realise how much has been stolen from us and lost in the liturgy, and it arouses a determination to restore the entire pre-1955 rites. They present us with so many things to pray for during the year... only I think the Triduum is key to regaining the rest.
