I can remember studying the coat of arms at primary school many years ago. But totally forgot about the origins of the boars ahead. The relevance of the goats and sheep on the coat of arms was to signify that Bradford was once considered the wool capital of the world. Thank you guys for another great vlog. Very much appreciated ๐Ÿ˜€

Just discovered your channel and looking forward to watching you videos! I no longer live in Bradford but was born there and lived there for 32 years and never knew how close Spinks well was to my dad and uncle's decorating business , first building on the point between Bolton road and Wapping road, had I known I would have explored down Lawson st! As a point of interest, the decorating premises I believe was once an old chapel in yester years, there were visible arches in part of the building, so my dad told me....can't verify this although I have looked about on internet trying to find out. There used to be a pub up there as well called after the boar, probably gone now! Cheers and Happy New Year from me!

Very, very interesting. Now, I know why a boar head is on Bradford coat of arms. I have friends who live around Bradford (Shipley, Guiseley, Baildon, Keighley) : I am sure they do not know the story. When I visit them later this year, I will say "do you know the story etc etc... ?". Success guaranteed ! Congratulations.

Spink's Well was within Spink's Well Farm (later demolished to make room for the old Power station near Canal Road/ Wapping, Bolton Road area). This farm was in the hands of the Medley's (my husbands family) and many tales were passed down the generations of the Medley's about the Boar's killing. Thank you for sharing this video and the history.

In the early part of the video on the nature trail I'm afraid you're in the wrong place, and you're not the first to make the same mistake. That's Spink well, the Boars Head well is a few hundred yards further up the path on the right and has no well house like the Spink well, actually Boars Head well looks like a large puddle draining across the path.

The boar story is not true. Sorry. This same story is from other European countries as well. A Dragon, a knight, a peasant, etc. Relating this story to Bradford and changing it from a Dragon to a Boar seems to be a relatively new creation. When I was at school we were told that the Boar was just a local animal and the last wild boar was killed in this region.
