Lira is not a journalist

Lira himself said that the Daily Beast called the SVU multiple times updating them on his location. Is that journalism?

He went against the "Russia = Darth Vader Ukraine = Luke Skywalker" narrative, therefore he became an enemy of the corporate press.

I must point out that the Daily Beast contacted the Ukraine government and alerted them to his presence in Kharkiv. Basically they pointed him out to the SBU security forces, which is extremely dangerous.

I've been following Gonzalo Lira for awhile and agree with his accessment on most everything. Victoria Nuland is still a war mongering fool and needs to be arrested for inciting war.

There are recordings of Nuland talking about who will be in charge of Ukraine, and discussing possible candidates. SO it wasn't just an accusation Also, check Richard Medhurst (the guy that interviewed Gonzalo in the video) well who to believe, some fckers doing ''journalism'' from 1000 miles away, or someone who is actually there and risking his neck telling you stuff you shouldn't know

Normaly in the past a journalist would have contacted this individual for the scoop. Not anymore media is not investigative.

Once again Kim and The Hill stand out as the only western journalists daring to speak on this issue, thank you guys you are amazing.

It's likely the SBU were prevented from torturing him because he is an American citizen.

The Daily Beast article and Lira's arrest lends credibility to LIRA, in my opinion.

What Kim didnt mention or maybe know is the journalist whos embedded with Azov. Who tweeted how she personally contacted the SBU about Gonzalo Lira and how she celebrated his reported arrest. She even went to threaten an American journalist in Donbas Patrick Lancaster saying "Hes next" and "he has to go" knowing full well what the SBU is all about.

But, I thought we were over there to fight for "DeMoCrAcY"?!?!?!?!

Yet he is still alive.. Not that alive is a well known blogger of the city Kherson. In Kherson, a local blogger, Valery Kuleshov, was killed in the yard of his house (sitting in his car). He was shot as a collaborator with Russia by the Ukrainian security services. The event did take place on April 20th 2022.

It’s so funny to me. Ryan Grimm gets really uncomfortable whenever Kim makes a good point, and shares the truth that is counter to the mainstream narrative. Kim’s radars always end with Ryan and Robbie in a kind of awkward silence. Emily at least engages.

Bottom line is that someone giving dissenting views does not deserve to be kidnapped and probably tortured for what he is saying. Discussing anything about his "manosphere" opinions or whether he had a big following or not is entirely irrelevant. The Daily Beast and its writers are at least partially responsible for this man's fate, and have done a great deal of harm in their incredibly irresponsible smear piece.

I'm a fan of Gonzalo, and his videos are funny, witty, charming and interesting. I don't agree with all of his views, but his critical piece on Victoria Nuland is hysterical and deeply insightful. He is in Ukraine and he does know what he's talking about regarding Ukraine. Check him out!

Daily Beast gloated on the idea that Lira was tormented and killed with the msg "Patrick Lancaster is next" on Twitter ...and deleted the tweet after a lot of ppl start calling names

Daily Beast shouldn't run the story. Somenthing similar happened to a French journalist, she was on the ground in the middle of the war and her friend or colleague was captured by Ukrainian military, the media they worked for didn't run their story because the guy was in danger situation.

Lira is very, very popular. And he was until when he was picked up and his laptop and phone confiscated were given accurate and daily information on what was going on then with the Azov people and Ukrainian barbaric soldiers who were brutal toward fellow Ukrainian of Russian descent.

Only Gonzalo really knows what happened to him, but he disappeared around the same time, when Elensky was trying to trade Ukrainian politician Medvedchuck for those mysterious Az0vstal combatants. I wonder, if they were planning to use Gonzalo Lira for the same purpose as well, maybe, but, after Putin declined Medvedchuck's exchange, they figured Gonzalo wouldn't be useful either. Killing Gonzalo Lira, after all the attention his friends in media attracted to his disappearance and created a true international following, was not wise, because everyone would believe it was Ukrainian doing. Just a thought that's all

I would never put myself in that situation and I don't even know who this dude is. But I will vehemently support his right to say whatever he wants. But to all Americans: why would you trust our media about Ukraine when they have proven they're willingness to lie to our faces?

I just saw iEarlGrey’s exposition of the U.N. paper titled “Arbitrary Detention, Torture, and Ill-Treatment In the Context of Armed Conflict in Eastern Ukraine, 2014-2021.” This was difficult to listen to, to put it mildly. One comment stated the writer had stopped listening at the point where people were being boiled alive, which the UN documented. Ukraine’s government and military are controlled even now by those who do these things or simply look the other way, and at this point it is just part of “the system.” (Thanks for this worsened situation in Ukraine are due in large degree to the U.S. penchant for instituting regime change.) Lira has emerged unscathed so far because of the huge outcry at his disappearance and efforts on his behalf by the Chilean and perhaps the American embassies. His war reports have enabled people to cut through the western media war fog machine and see things such as, for example, what this UN report is describing that are even now happening at the hands of Ukrainian military forces. We need people on the ground in Ukraine like Lira who, in my opinion, seems VERY respectful of women. Personally, I believe his “other” views are in the past. Lira is married now and has two young children. But [back to the top] our American media haven’t had a lot to say about this U.N. report, have they?

Emily makes the point I've been trying to make my whole life adult life. Especially the last 6 or 7 years I watch politics and reporting very closely and the rub is so hard to get to sometimes and so different from the headline and the story that it's incredibly difficult for anyone to truly understand the inside baseball of all the things that happen

Another thing to note is that, during the week he was gone, certain far-right Ukrainians were posting on Twitter that they knew where he was, that he was being tortured, and hopefully the beheading would be posted soon…… it’s been terrifying to wait to hear what has happened to him. And a huge relief when we saw him back online. I’ve been only following him since the beginning of the invasion because, as a Ukrainian, I knew a lot of his takes were spot on and I was excited to find an English language source that said things as they are (to share with English speaking friends). PS Also the Daily Beast noted in their article that they reached out to the Ukrainian authorities for a comment, which was another reason they got him in danger.

As someone who has been following GL (on all things Ukraine) up until his abduction, I have to say that Kim's heart is in the right place. Wish I could say the same about her at best rudimentary knowledge of Lira's content. That said, KI is a breath of fresh air in these polarized times, beautiful both on the inside and outside :)

There was a young man from Spain that went to Don Bass a few years ago and him and a group were helping the citizens and reporting on the situation and a couple days ago it was reported that he had been assassinated he arrived home at his apartment and was murdered while he was still in his car can't remember his name I saw it come up on a KZfaq channel called iearl grey!

Mr Lira spoke about prior communication with the Beast before the article was published, warning of it, and seemed confident it was a deliberate attempt to silence him for his reporting in Ukraine. There was an underlying “feeling” that the Beast might be working with the UKR security forces in identifying reporters for them to silence.

just putting out there that his views on feminism dont matter, in fact the reasons why he is in ukraine married to to an ukranian woman (where his views are more on the liberal side) when it comes to such questions ukraine and russia are barely any different and traditional is a rather benevolent description. there are also posts on telegram (the messenger everyone uses in ukraine too) by ukranian militants that say "ironic that lira was arrested by someone with the callname "chile" and "I hope his beheading video shows up on telegram sooner or later

Gonzalo cannot leave the city right now, im sure it got real enough for him where he wants to go but hes under investigation. His electronics were confiscated and passwords changed so he had to get a new phone and make new accounts.

6:12 The old school SBU guys are not realy nice but they still working in some legal frames the real threat are newer SBU guys which come from the Azov units and simmilar backgrounds Lira is alive only because SBU guys calculated that Lira is worth more alive than dead, not to forgot he is in Karkhiv. Russians will probobaly came in to that city in the near future because Zelenski doesnt show any interest in real negotiation up today, also the Karkiv is basicaly native russian city. Lira can be usuable token in the future.

Philip Lancaster and Graham Philips report from Mariupol and interview the citizens who are living in basements, every single one of them tell the same story about being used as human shields, being shot at etc by the Ukrainian soldiers and the Azov. The fact that Zelensky won’t allow those holed up in the Azovstal steel works to surrender gives a very good indication of where he’s coming from. Gonzalo is spot on with his reportage on the Zelensky regime and their lack of empathy for their soldiers or indeed the Ukrainian people.

The only thing where the daily beast is honest is on it’s own name (remember what’s “beast” alludes from a biblical perspective.

One can disagree with many of Gonzalo Lira's personal views, and some of them are indeed quite strange and controversial, but the way he revealed the situation in Ukraine was great. He really knew the situation from the inside and did not hold back his tongue when exposing the Ukrainian regime. By doing this, Gonzalo demonstrated a deep vision of political processes and a great sense of humor. Knowing how "democratic" the Ukrainian government is, this was very bold. And when Gonzalo disappeared, there was every reason to fear the worst, given the hundreds of mysterious disappearances of journalists, observers, experts, and public leaders objectionable to the regime in recent years. But apparently the American passport and the concerns of the Chilean government were able to protect him. I am very glad that Gonzalo is alive, even if not completely free. I hope he can continue his work in one form or another.
