During my private interview with Kim Jung Gi I got a chance to film him going through his 2018 sketchbook. He told us some behind the scenes secrets, insights into his process, and a bunch of jokes that I think you all will enjoy.
Kim Jung Gi’s 2018 Sketchbook is available now along with some of his other books at www.kimjunggius.com/

To be honest, I love that answer. There is nothing wrong with it and it makes him happy. He has no reason to feel any differently about it. My thing is a lot less "controversial", I just do a metric ton of fantasy/medieval type characters. Some people ask me about even that. I tell them the same, that's what I like.

That answer was amazing! It was short and held multiple levels of truth to it! I love drawing beautiful male characters and as soon as I leave my parent's house/ get better at drawing I'll be drawing a lot more ;) XD Art is Art! Trying to stop someone from drawing what they love because of social convention is stifiling their creativity!

@@IzzySarru You have to admit some of his drawings are a little disturbing or creepy and not just because there are naked people but because of what's happening with them in the drawn scenes. Some of his drawings are kinda hardcore-ish.

Sadly watching this pains me, anyone who wants to be like Kim Jung gi is very VERY stupid. Open your eyes, he didn't get to make that, he didn't pick the cover, they put in pictures he didn't want, it's all just a bunch of work sketchs. They raped all the fun and joy from his art by the fact that in the back of his head while drawing he knows it's for work and, it's a job and, the sketchs they don't like will be ripped out, (talk about disincoragment). Kim Jung gi spent half his year traveling for work and died in France on business away from his family, and on the inside of his right middle finger he has a giant calus bump. To sum it up if you like drawing and you want to completely slaughter the fun and make it just as miserable as ever thing else you hate, them go out there and be the next Kim Jung gi.

One thing you must love about Kim is how honest he is with himself and with others. Like his response to why he draws naked women as opposed to clothed guys. Because he likes it that way. Whether you agree or disagree with him on that you can at least respect the honesty. Honesty like this should be preserved and celebrated because Kim, through his work, is giving us unadulterated access to his mind.

I been drawing and sketching for more than 50 years an d haven't advanced much. Much is dew to having to work full time as a dirty-grimey ,and a lot of times dangerous, industrial laborer. putting in 40, 50 , 60 hours and working Saturdays. I have sacrificed more time put in the workplace on one of those 'living from paycheck-to-paycheck ' salaries than trying to become a better artist. Now I am retired and have lots of time to turn my skill levels up a few notches. Better late than never.

Absolutely gutted that we’ll never see more videos with this artist. He had such a great sense of fun and seemed to live life with such youthful exuberance. His imagination was so free and not affected by social expectations and standards. He was so determined in his approach and seemed to be always striving to do even better. I can’t believe he’s gone. Rest in peace, amazing Kim Jung Gi x

The keys to art are patience, dedication, and most of all, practice. There’s not a lot separating this guy’s work from the works of other artists, other than he spends a lot more time on each piece.

RIP, what a master. Setting aside his incredible eye for every nuance of gesture and biology, setting aside his astounding technical proficiency and his ability to recall and translate this detail effortlessly to the page... he had a wicked sense of humor and an unbound imagination. He was a remarkable person, not just a drawing automaton.

Not just a master, but also a genius. We call masters as to be proficient in a technical skill set. What I’m seeing here is an artistic genius. I was somewhat technical proficient as an illustrator in my high school days, but I’m unable to be anywhere near this level.

@@coldfries47 that’s an assumption. Practice doesn’t bring the mastery he’s shown here. If you’ve studied art, you’d know the old masters don’t even work this way. They make sketches, reference lines for proportions. This guy is simply tracing a photo from his mind. No corrections, no measurements.

Hahaha, I love his humor. It's sad that the ones who promote and print his work don't respect what Gi like. If he doesn't want the damn green cover, let him fk choose, if he doesn't like that damn picture of his head with the eye, then don't fk include it, if he want his "nauty" damn drawing then fk add then too!!! He fk need to move to other place that accept his complete work, PERIOD. I'm mad that everywhere they want to censure fk everything.

You do understand that publishing a book is a gamble, right? The publishers are just changing things in order to make the book more attractive for potential buyers. If they didn't filter/edit certain things, then the book probably wouldn't be sold as much which can result in money problems for the publishing company :/
