I know you have already done quite a few NVG videos. I have watched them all and am lucky to have the content that you put out. What are your thoughts on the Mini BNVD’s? They are super light weight, reasonably priced and are specifically designed for WP. Seems like a no brainer IMO, but having not run NODs before I am only going for what I have seen in a video or heard from word of mouth. I know you’re a big fan of the DTNVS. Thoughts on comparison between the two? Appreciate this video btw. Vary rarely to us civis get a chance to hear what is required to reliably run NVG setups and clean them as well. Kudos and thank you sir!

I work in the film industry and work often with lenses that are 40k-50k each. On high end lenses, the glass has a protective coating that can be deteriorated by finger print oil from hands long term and the glass elements are more sensitive than the interior components. Is this something with night vision as well? Protocol for high end lenses is canned air/air blower to remove dust - (so when you wipe the lens you aren't grinding is into the glass) - lens cleaner with wipe (like pancro and lens tissue) - camel hair brush or lens pen to brush anything else away - inspect - move on. Would this be a similar care for the glass or would it be overkill? Im looking to buy night vision in the near-ish future and don't quite understand how durable they are yet.

They have a protective film as well but they are meant for hard use so it would be a slight over kill. You can use air from a hand blower but it's up to you and depends on how dirty it's getting.

A word on the brush pen. I got my unit in yesterday and used the brush on the front lense. I then looked through the tube in a dark environment and noticed multiple streaks across the image. These were cleaned off once I use the microfiber side of the pen on the front lens. Have you ever noticed anything like that when using the brush side?
@KineticConsulting

I haven't. Check the brush on a white sheet of paper and see it it has something on it. Where did you get it?

How often should you or do you recommend units to get sent back for a factory cleaning and re-purge?
@syntaxerrorsix3137
@syntaxerrorsix3137 3 жыл бұрын
Unless you've disassembled the unit you should not need to ever send it in for a refill, or cleaning IMO.
@KineticConsulting

It's mainly based on use. I use. Mine often and in a high humidity environment, so I do mine ever 6-12 months. If I lived in a dry environment about 12 months should be fine. It's mainly about making sure the orings don't die on you.

What is involved when people send their nvgs in for “repurge” and how much does it usually cost?

Did you ever find out the answer to this question?
@rl1271
@rl1271 Жыл бұрын
@@manscapedgrinch1427 yes. “Repurge” means to expel all oxygen and foreign matter inside the tube and reseal the lenses with nitrogen and then some process to make sure no leaks occur. Prevents fogging inside the tube and only needs to be done once every few years

How long can a tube last? Are they waterproof?
@KineticConsulting
@KineticConsulting 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the tube and use but 10k active unit is usually the industry go to. I haven't reached that and doubt I ever will so I can't confirm. Yes if built by a professional then they should be waterproof to a certain depth and time under
