It had Sparg0, Leo, Marss, Neo, Bloom4Eva, Raflow, Sisqui and Apollokage, all top 50 players, as well as many other strong players and 800+ entrants. Maybe since we've had a lot of Supermajors recently (Genesis, LMBM, Umebura) you expect things of that scale

Joker sucks

He's been insane with a number of characters. He probably learned things about Joker from using different characters for a while

His Byleth was so much fun to watch but discovering Byleth’s bad matchups took the wind out of his sails. What hurt Leo the most was his noncommittal approach, where he half heartedly played multiple characters instead of committing to a select few

For almost 3 and a half years he was the undisputed best player in the world getting 1st as a norm and in a bad day getting 2nd, people saying he's not good and shit don't get what kind of talent and gained skill you have to wield to accomplish that craziness

It doesn’t even matter where he placed last year. He literally brought Ultimate’s gameplay standards up tremendously higher than it ever was and he did it with characters that no one thought were even viable to do so. He’s also the only person in all of Ultimate to consistently place first and second with a roster of like 9 different tournament level character picks. And he did that just because he got really bored using Joker and Byleth all the time. That’s why he’s the GOAT.

@@lazerman3686 Ok 2 things 1. There were quite a few tournaments where he missed top 16, although it wasn't the majority 2. Him getting top 16 actually DOES mean he's washed because it means he's not getting the same placements as he used to. Being washed doesn't mean that the person is bad (no intelligent person in their right mind would call Mkleo bad) but it DOES mean that he no longer is as good as he was in his prime.

happy as I always am to see these titans in play, I think smashers are SO entitled. We're privileged to watch players like Sonix and Acola piloting those characters at a level most competitive players can't even imagine doing themselves. People hated HBox and now he's a legend. People hated Maister and he's beloved by the Ult community. Smash isn't just about the people watching it, and if you can't see the poetry in motion when those players are at their best, you don't really love the game enough.

@@mannya.h.967 Genesis final was whack , and if the game had those kind of MU taking over from the start, the esport would never have been popular in the first place . So many melee bracket matches were better than ultimate finals . Do you have to love every mu to love the game ? Cause i think the enjoyability of ultimate as a player and spectator varies a lot between MU . The game just isnt' perfect but has really cool things going for it aswell

Maister is loved because of his personality even though he uses a character not many like, on the contrary, sonix was known to be kinda toxic and acola is a litteral robot, you cant empathize with them and they use the 2 most hated characters.

I don't think how the community reacts to Leo losing something is necessarily a contradictory thing to his status as the GOAT. For most players, getting top 8 at a major is considered a huge demonstration of skill and proof that they are one of the best, and the community generally celebrates their strong performance. For Leo, getting second place at a super major will still have people calling him washed. If you think about it, that's actually a direct reflection of the fact that people still consider him the GOAT and is in many ways a massive compliment- the community's standards for Leo are just higher than they are for other top players- it's proof of how much he has already achieved compared to everyone else and is in a weird way a sign of respect- anyone who calls him washed for such a high tournament position actually proves that their expectation from a man of his caliber was a straight up win- anything less is under performance.
