@ 4:07 "how can I see through that?" It's as if he's angry at the person for not asking him for help and support, but at the same time it's also as if he's angry at himself for not being able to see through the person and doing anything to help them. Anger, grief, guilt, sadness all in that one sentence. It's beautiful how he was able to portray it. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Beautiful - and thanks to this performance the nuance of that lyric changed a lot for me. As a Korean the verse 내가 어떻게 헤아릴 수가 있을까요 always meant something along the lines of "I cannot understand all the pain you've been through but, I'm gonna be here for you" but in this version, it's (to me) "Help me understand, why can't I understand" in the sense you're describing it as and it's wonderful

maroInn85 Jonghyun composed the song and it was for Lee Hi (Jonghyun himself has sung this song cause he wrote it) I believe the original singer would be considered to be Lee Hi since he wrote the song for her so she can sing it :)

I wouldn't agree with the last statement. its almost as if he is angry with those who refuse to express those pained feelings through words, and instead choose to express them through sighs. "Someone's breath, a heavy breath. How can I see through that?" Its reaffirming that he can't understand their true feelings if they just sigh. all in all he is begging them to share, but then he says its okay if he doesn't understand/if they do not share cause he will still hold them.

@@danielsmall2037 That's okay, you don't have to agree. I wasn't relating to the lyrics of the song, I was just sort of describing how it felt to me. Like a final cry for help sort of thing. I know it's not what he's saying, it's just what appeared to me when I closed my eyes and listened to it. Thanks for sharing yours too though. Noted and appreciated.

Lee Hi's version already made me cry but Han Dong Geun's version made me feel the song more. The way he sang it that made me feel the struggle and longing. It creeps up to my bones. Made me felt Jonghyun's emotions when he was writing this. This song speaks to me in so many ways.

Lee hi's version more to soothing, comforting and giving hope that's why we cry because we feel hopeless and alone. Dong geun's version is more like telling you to just let it all out, you can scream your heart out coz it's okay. Loving both versions. This song is a masterpiece ;')

wow, this was just beautiful. it started out alright and i was feeling alright but the second half was so powerful and emotional, i couldn't hold back my tears. The repeated "내가 어떻게" sounded like a desperate scream.

Sohyang and Don Geun rendition captured the depth of emotional pain of someone who wanted to do something for the one who is hurting and can’t do nothing about it. I remember that time spending the last hours of my dying cousin who was like a sister to me from cancer. She was still praying to extend her life and we can’t do anything about it. That indescribable grief of that moment would still linger every time I remember her emaciated face still wanting to live. I cried to her to let go because there is a better place. I would have said she did well. I prayed and keep her in my arms as she drew her last breath.

This song is a masterpiece ✨ Thank you Kim Jonghyun for writing this song even if it hurts 🥀 I hope you’re doing well and are aware how much you and your songs are loved 💕 I’m crying a river over here😢 Han Dong geun did it so well at expressing the emotions and sang it like his own. He’s so good 🙊🙊👍🏼 One of my fave cover besides Sohyuang’s I realized that they both got curly hair on thier masks 🎭 😊

4:07 he's scolding those who don't express their pain through words, but through sighs AND himself for not realizing their pain. He's saying we can't understand if you don't speak your pain. He's begging them to speak out. Release that pain.

he's not scolding others. he's claiming to not presume to understand someone else's troubles. it's a statement of humility(slightly self-deprecating) it's a rhetorical device used commonly by koreans.

The delivery and the arrangement is really good and those grunts and slight melodic changes adds to the whole atmosphere he's trying to create. I think it's because he's a baritone whose voice is naturally low; gives the audience a sense of comfort that "it's gonna be okay" or "I know it hurts, I'm here". Same with Lee Hi who is a mezzo-soprano. I trust the lower voiced males and females when it comes to emotions more than the higher ones--although there are those such as Park Hyo Shin, Naul and BtoB Tenors just to name a few, whose voices are naturally high but can still convey emotions with ease as the baritones and the mezzos--Maybe because of their limited mixed voice, that they have to use there voices effectively and improve their musicality to keep the audience hooked in without going into the higher extremes, automatically leading there vocal styles to be more into the "emotional side" rather than the explosive side. BTW I'm talking more about the ballad singers and not the rock singers

논란으로 싱어게인에서 나오게 되었지만, 사실 한숨은 한동근 버전을 능가할수 없었음. 노래는 기가 막히게 잘하더라 . 더 늘었더만 . . 당신은 그냥 가수야. 초심으로 다시 일어서면 좋겠음. 한동근 응원한다.

이게 진짜 넘사벽 커버인데 하필 독이든성배인 이승환 곡을 골라서 후ㅠㅠ 후반에 호랑이처럼 포효하듯 외치듯 부르는게 한동근 최대 장점인데 이번에 많이 실수한듯

I saw this on tiktok and searched it here to hear the full performance, can't believe it was 2 years ago. Wah! He's really really good. I got goosebumps. Jonghyun reminds me of this song when lee hi sang it. This guy had a different approach to this song gahd! It felt really really sad 🤧🤧🤧
