I wonder if that's also how he ended up with someone like Lenore. My brother said that like Hank Bill had a abusive tyrannical father and a mother that was more doting. I also read an article that suggested Hank marry Peggy because she had qualities that were lacking in his father figures not perfect but she was free from some of the vices that plague Cotton and Buck. So wild Hank married someone who encouraged him and dared him to be stronger while nurturing him. Bill ended up marrying someone who knew how to hurt him the way his father did, with the result that Bill felt he deserved whatever crap he got.

This disproves the fan theory that Dale knows the truth about John Redcorn. Dale hates his father and holds a grudge for years because he kissed Nancy once. Imagine how he'd react if he knew that Nancy had a boyfriend behind his back for over 10 years. He's friendly with John Redcorn and trusts him completely. Once Dale gets an idea in his head, he refuses to believe anything differently. He thinks Bug is a womanizer even though he's gay. In the same episode, he thinks that John Redcorn is gay. It fits well with Dale's character, who is overly suspicious and paranoid over things he shouldn't worry about, and he's oblivious to things that are obvious.
