The way the independent rear suspension works on those things is great! It'll crawl up a steep, rocky hill like a champ! I have a 2000 LT F250, that's a 2-wheel drive. I routinely take 500 lb of riders. I need to use the low range on steep hills but I never run out of power.

Suzuki was the FIRST maker of quads. Love to see someone these days ride one for the first time as I have been riding them for 25 years. Just pulled mine out from where it was sitting for the last 5 years because of a back injury. New battery, oil change, and it was running in about 3 minutes... Thanks Sta-bil. Still think that the lite weight and great gearing make them the best machine to handle and have fun without worry.

the issue you're having when trying to start it when it doesn't wanna turn over is easy to fix. ours does it. if you look underneath the seat on the top of the engine. there's a little lever you can flip. its a compression release for the hand pull start. if you flip the lever then try the starter it should work fine. also if you try to use the pull start without flipping the lever. it'll be so hard to pull you'll think the engines locked up. P.S I know this videos 3 years old but you may still have the quad and for others to know too edit: I went back and looked and yours don't have a pull start but mine does so my bad but I'm gonna leave it for people who do have a pull start and electric start on theirs.

First quad my dad ever bought was a 2000 Suzuki king quad 300 and it was a little beast on the trails. Never got stuck and it never let us down. A year later he bought a 89 Kawasaki bayou 300 4x4 so him and I both had a quad for the trails. The bayou 300 was another durable little machine that always got through some rough trails we went on. Just wish you could switch between 2wd and 4wd like the king quad. My dad was nuts and after we got the king quad 300, it was the only quad we had at the time and he made two seats for the back and one on the front and we went riding one day with me my mom my sister and her husband and my dad all on that quad in the yellow dog plains in the upper peninsula 😂😂😂!!! 4 adults and me I think I was 13 at the time. I was too young at the time to realize how ridiculous it was. We have a pretty funny picture of us 5 on it. It’s a gem. We had to get up this steep hill so we threw my mom on the front for more weight then me to get up it 😂😂😂. A story I’ll all remember. My dad got sick with ALS years ago and we live in Detroit but before that we use to keep the quads and an old 78 Yamaha 175 enduro in a storage unit in Marquette and would drive 8 hours up there, stay in a hotel and go out riding all the time. They have now been sitting in the unit untouched for 8 years? I’m finally going to get them this summer and bringing them back to Detroit to tune up and get them ready to ride again so I can take them up north again all the time. My dad gave me all 3 machines before he passed and I can’t wait to ride again. Some of the best times of my life growing up was riding with him up in the upper Peninsula and exploring new trails and riding deep into the middle of no where. He always found his way back to our truck and trailer somehow at the end of the day and it was amazing. Like I said we put those quads to the test on some really rough trails and they always made it through them. Plenty of power to go anywhere. I think they are the perfect squad that balances size and power. Not too big and not too small to get through tight trails and enough power to go anywhere. Cannot wait to finally open that unit storage unit and look at those machines again for the first time in years and to take them home and work on them to get them going again. Not to mention the king quad only has 3000miles on it I believe and is in like new condition still. He bought a couple winches that we never got around to putting on them and they are still new in the boxes in my garage and I’m going to put those on when I bring them home. Looking forward to taking them out for long trips and camping along the way on new adventures. Nothing to me is more fun then riding quads in the upper peninsula and seeing all the beautiful hidden water falls and rivers and the forest. I am now 28 and it’s time to go get them. I wonder if I’ll ever sell that king quad since I have so many memories riding it with my dad. Might upgrade the bayou eventually to a newer quad, but I really liked the semi automatic drives they both have and I’m pretty sure most or all newer utility quads are now all full auto which takes the fun out of it a little bit. In my opinion. Cheers!

I had a 250 quadrunner when I was young. My father has beaten the crap out of it, then my older brother has beaten the crap out of it, then I have beaten the crap out of it. With it's super low range you can basically haul the moon. If you want to keep the motor for a long time, install a fan in front of it to keep it from overheating and it will last forever.

Bought mine used back in 2001. Would over-heat when driving slow or climbing here in NM with temps around 100. Talked to our local Suzuki shop and could buy the $100+ fan; or just switch to Amsoil. He said he could ride all day same trails it would overheat, but hasn't overheated not even once. So, I switched thinking whole lot cheaper and easier. Guess what! He was right. Never overheated since. Hard to believe. Now, I switched to the newer Amsoil ATV oil as its good for the auto clutch. Engine oil and transmission oil is the same. Love this little machine!! Not fast, but pulls like crazy!!

I've worked on those at my shop. FYI if it doesn't run well after cleaning the carb. There is a fuel filter and a fuel pump at the front left of the side fairing. Not only that but the vacuum lines get clogged up near the t pipe under the gas tank

GJ on the atv. My advice....strip it down, go over everything, it doesn't take long but the worst day is the day your support vehicle breaks down. You have seen I have 7 atv's in the barn. trust me, its worth the time to make that King quad tight and right. When everything else breaks down.....the quad is the ROCK. Hats off to you sir. For those wondering, I just did this. Took a ROUGH 87 quadrunner to the frame, rebuilt the motor (top end), new bushings, bearings and seals where needed. It took about 10-15hrs a week for a month and cost me about 900$ including the cost of the quad (300$, came with a parts quad). Absolutely worth it.

i used to have a 250 quad runner and it had the 4x4 or 2x4 selector with high and low plus it had super low with the dif lock and it would go anywhere and better then most of the 350 and 400's of the time. of course back then a 400 foreman was considered a big quad. around the turn of the century me and my buddys were on the mountain every sunday like church. this was a cool video bud

I just acquired a 1996 king quad, the guy was going to trash it so I saved it from the shredder. It turns out, it stopped running for the old guy and he put it in a shed for years, when I got it from storage it has only 325 miles on and it shows. As I got into it all I could find was a fouled plug, changed it plus a few other adjustments and now own a clean, green, running machine. I would like to see any and all upgrades, I plan on lights and a plow and use it for Ice fishing.

Had an 96 model, they are called a 300 but if you look on the case they are like 348cc. They have some pretty weird faults but the engine is about bullet proof. The ujoints on the rear axle shafts are weak and expensive. The upper ball joints on the front like to pop out. Ended up fixing the front on ours by removing the factory bolt and drilling a bit larger with the ball joint in place. That formed a groove on the ball joint stud that a bolt would then hold in place. Ended up selling ours because at $300 a side for axles it wasn't worth fixing it when it snapped one every time we tried to use it on the farm. If it woulda been solid rear axle I most likely woulda still owned it. If you plan on towing with it plan on replacing rear axles now. 2wd high mine would run 55mph. We used to run it on the road between fields all the time and it was hardly slow.
@ralphfalstin6024
@ralphfalstin6024 4 жыл бұрын
I had a rear axle break on my 98 & 02. Its not the u joint, it's the actual axle. Few inch from tire. Repair shop charged a mint but I found just the replacement axle under 100. Around 70-75 I think. Not hard to do yourself, just have to have room. Both mine I was lucky to get above 30mph. It's a utility machine, not built for racing.

Acts like the transfer case might be locked. I can put it in gear while it's running, but will not move. Can't even move it in neutral. Plus it's stuck in 4x4. Not sure if that's the reason it won't move. Lots of work to do, but what can I say for only $500 Edit: will only move in super low range. Low and high range act like they're in a bind. They were well before their time with these Options.its mechanically controlled levers that switches 2 wheel drive,4 wheel drive and super low gives it 25 shifting options with 3-5 gear shifting selections.One 2 wheel high/low 5 gears each.Two 4 wheel high/low 5 gears each and super 4x4 low 5 gears only and everthing is all mechanically swicthed by the operator.its not a fast bike but in super low it will try to climb up a wall and with good gripped tires can climb at very steep angle as long as the operator can hold the nose down.because of every mechanical in the bike makes it simple to fix.it is a fun bike to ride.

I would blow off all the leaves & crap before opening air covers etc. to not risk getting dirt & stuff into the carb & airbox

Man i wish I could weld. I would make a go kart similar to his old 670cc yerf dog spiderbox that burnt to a crisp. The engine on my spiderbox has been nothing but trouble.

Man I wish I would have recorded my Honda atc 185s carb rebuild the engines now on a 200m. But it was like there was an inch of oil and rust in the carb looked like puked up molasses. Took 2 cans of carb cleaner a brush an a pot of boiling water just to get the slide and jets out Let alone the rust and ports so I could fix it.

Greg As you are getting out and about with your machines now, have you considered making a Removable second Story / deck on your trailer ? that would enable you to carry more of your machines on one trailer at the same time Just a thought that you may not have considered also maybe a trailer hitch on the Quad

I got a '98 Dodge Cummins 3/4 ton foil drive My battery was dead one time on the truck and I was too far away to use battery charger so I towed it to my shop used in my king quad 98 four wheel drive to pull it and it moved it like it was nothing

on ours, we had to put a tractor battery on it because we got tired of the stupid thing dying. never had a problem again other than the huge battery tied with baling wire to the front end. Edit: and don't call the beast slow. she is much quicker in high 4 and high 5 with four-wheel drive on. we top out on the road somewhere around 60mph

Also it sounds geared down. Check and see if it’s in tow mode( lever should be right next to the shifter)

Think he meant super low. If memory serves me the left lever on the dash has super low, low, and high. The red lever is reverse. The other lever locks the 4x4 in.
