I honestly don't care about printers of this size but still watched the video because you make great videos. Always very informative and without beating around the bush, I've learned more about 3d printing from your channel than any other. Keep it up Chuck!

Thanks for the shout out, Chuck. In my video a lot of people commented they wanted linear rails for lower maintenance down the track. Nice comparison video. I quite like these range of smaller printers. My Prusa Mini gets a lot more use than I expected.

You cannot use the same g-code. Ender 3 is bowden. KP3s is direct drive. The retraction is causing the lines on the KP3s. Not a fair/logical test. Linear rails are for speed and reliability. No v-roller wheel issues. No need to fiddle with belt tension since the v-rollers aren't there to degrade/wear out. Latest firmware does have have z-offset.

nice basic review. I've got 3 kingroons and 1 ender3. for me the ender takes a lot more maintenance. from the famous extruder cracking issue to constantly being out of level. not to mention all the bowden problems that pop up half way through a 2 day print. the kingroons are bullet proof work horses. I don't even check bed level for weeks at a time. always ready to rock and roll.

Thanks for this, I'm actually tempted by the Kingroon for the larger bed area and direct drive. Is there any open source firmware support like Marlin? I could see the file display issue getting old pretty quick.

@@ferrumignis yes people have installed Marlin and klipper on these successfully. There is a decent community on Facebook and many printable upgrades online. Including a base for attaching the power supply under the printer that doesn't require buying any screws or parts at all.

I had to replace the wheels on my enders due to having flat spots overtime. Linear rails are just better quality parts, not necessarily for better quality prints. I get better cooling on the K3PS due to the better fan. Better DD extruder. A few printed mods and the power supply & spool holder is attached to the frame if you prefer that. Update the firmware and you get all things you need from marlin, plus a better display orientation too. Add a pi and klipper and that thing flies at high speeds, thanks to the linear rails. The KP3S is superior in every way to the Ender 2, but you'll have to put a bit more work into it.

Thanks for taking a look Chuck! I love my KP3S, but I've done a ton of modifications and put Klipper on it. I definitely see your points about the Ender 2 Pro being a lot more user friendly and easier to handle. Regarding the firmware on the KP3S, I think it's an older version of Marlin, hence it not recognizing certain commands. There's community made versions of the latest Marlin for it, but it requires having to take the screen out and rotate it, housing it in a new part. Overall I think the Ender 2 Pro is a lot better for printing straight away. The KP3S is better for a tinkerer who already has some experience printing.
@Drew_pew_pew_pew

Those are all valid arguments made in the video and having a KP3S and an Ender 3 pro I still prefer the KP3S. A beginner printer rarely stays a beginner printer. And while the initial setup and experience will be better with the Ender 2 pro, maintenance and changing needs (like printing tpu) will appear at one time in somebody's printing journey. My goal with the KP3S is to print pla and tpu - and it does this great out of the box - be remotely controllable and reliable. I bought the pei flex sheet, a 3d touch and a raspberry pi 2 W zero (when they were still available). I installed Klipper on the pi. The advantage of Klipper is while the steppers are in standalone mode, I can still use features like pressure advance with the original board. I found this to be the most cost-effective upgrades I could do and give me the most in return: good bed adhesion, no leveling worries, remotely controllable/upgradeable, easy to use extruder and a fast printer. When I look back at my Ender 3 pro: other bed springs, capricorn tube, rapsberry pi, new extruder because arm broke, all metal hotend because of stupid bowden that goes up to the nozzle, periodic maintenance to see if the eccentric nuts are still OK and if the X-gantry is not at an angle. I get the same quality prints with more hassle on the Ender. One thing I want to mention is while being a Chinese company with its obvious flaws in their designs, they are very approachable and active on social media. The answers are in google translated Engrish but at least you get an answer and most of the time in a timespan of 2 days.

I found the Kingroon KP3S is on another level. You can read the full name of your prints unlike the Ender 2. Direct drive. Easier to setup. Linear rails make for less wear unlike the wheels on the Ender 2. A smaller profile is great for the room. Things I do like about the Ender 2 is the spool holder is better in my opinion, minus it taking more room. The adjustment for the belts. I personally hate tool trays that go inside the machine. I like a nice easy grab solution personally and I really don't need a handle to pick up my printers. TPU on the KP3S is a massive advantage for me. Though you could go with whatever is the cheapest at the time, if TPU isn't a major important filament you want to be able to print out of the box. Edit: Larger part cooling fan on the KP3S is better. KP3S has a 2mm to 3mm PTFE liner in the heartbreak that is a pain to replace. The Ender 2 has a cheap PFTE tube that will need trimming over time. Still, the Ender 2 is easier to trim than replacing the liner on the KP3S. I'm still working on a replacement for the liner on the KP3S. The touch screen is nice on the KP3S and it looks better for me. I found personally KP3S prints like a professional machine. I dislike both the magnetic beds on these machines so I replaced them both right away with PEI spring sheets or glass.

HI, much much after these video's came out, I am now the happy owner of 2 Ender 2 Pro's. I needed to print parts that measure 22mm x 120mm. So they are perfect to mass produce these parts. My 1st 3D printer, on wich I protyped the 1st versions of these parts was a mere 100x100x120 real CoreXY homebuild by a friend. No screen, only worked with a PC connection. So thank you for your videos. I learn from them.

The only real advantage of linear rails over wheels is speed. I'm printing bone stock except for an upgrade to Klipper at 120mm/s with excellent qualityon my KP3S. The limiting factor is actually the hotend volumetric flow, not the motion system. I'm fixing that as we speak.

I own four KP3S machines. Put Marlin on two of them that would actually take Marlin. The processor in the other two are different and not exactly sure how to compile Marlin for them at this time. I recently picked up the KP5S, KP5M and KP5L. Currently in the process of designing a belt tensioner for the KP5M along with a 10mm wide belt mod for the Y axis. My LK1 Longer really responded well to going with the wider belt and dual linear rails for the Y. I custom machined all my mounts and hardware.... Not sure where I was going with this. 😂😂 But I've had really good luck with the kp3s machines. I did swap out a couple of the Titans for BMG clone extruders. Even set one KP3 up with a boden set up for a while to see how much faster I could print. 140mm/ps is pushing it with a volcano hotend.

3:48 I heard that linear rails last longer, and that the rubber wheels wear out faster. I don't know if this is true or how it could be tested, but that might be an argument in favor of linear rails if it's true. 5:43 Did that loose belt effect your prints? In my experience this printer printed great. The belt never slipped. And the guy who has been using it since hasn't complained. Maybe the belt isn't actually that loose.

Maybe the Kingroon uses a different M code for pause, like M600 (filament change pause) or M601 (pause print)? It's amazing they can make and sell these printers for this price. I'm right now tuning my new V-Minion, which has the same cantilever design, and the same 180mm x 180mm as the Kingroon, but costs 3.5x more (and you have to build it yourself). Of course it's a completely different grade of machine and can print much faster, but still it's incredible that anything is possible for $179.

The kingroon does have more than one version of the kp3s. The pro version has a built-in PS and I believe it has belt tensioner as well. What I don't like is the proprietary firmware. I would prefer Marlin or even klipper. Do you know if the Ender 2 pro can print abs out of the box? I saw a th3d video that seemed to indicate that it needed a PS and firmware mode for the bed to be able to heat hotter than 80 degrees C.

Naah, KP3S is just a better printer and it saddens me that you are misleading beginners into buying the Ender. Nobody stays a beginner for long and both printers print great out of the box. The difference is that one has a possibility to be upgraded to a way more advanced machine for little to no additional cash and will give those beginners the experience they need to learn and grow into this hobby. Also you can put that power supply under the desk if it bothers you so much, that actually makes this printer take less space. I would only recommend the Ender for someone that has 0 interest in this is a hobby and just wants to print stuff, although even then the KP3S will do just fine.

IMO KP3S is winner because it has easier klipper installation, files are ready for installation, its too fast and best extruder. I know that the organization is chaotic after removing the box, but if you pay more attention to the modification, the mounting elements of the power supply to the printer + rPi with klipper, it will be the best than Ender2pro. These are my views from the perspective of using Voron.

The Ender 2 Pro looks like an amazing, compact and even portable machine for the low price. Maybe it will pause with M600 or M601. I didn't find the same G-code comparison very fair. Every machine is different and it should have been compared with the optimal G-code for each machine. And while linear rails might not improve print quality and those printing speeds, I'm sure they'll provide more rigidity at higher speeds and also last much longer and won't need to be adjusted frequently. It's kinda lame that the KingRoon uses V-wheels for the Z axis despite using rails for X and Y. That's kinda where it could have helped a lot to support the X gantry.
@JonnyFlash80
@JonnyFlash80 Жыл бұрын
Unless the linear rail had very tight tolerances, I'm not so sure one single linear rail would stabilize the X gantry any more than properly tightened V-wheels. Now on a printer that could have two linear rails on Z, now that would be a definite advantage over V-wheels.

I have the Ender 2 Pro, it does exactly what I want it to do. I question some of the build issues with the Kingroon and the videos I saw had basically the same issues you had, it was decisive enough for me I didn't want a printer I was going to have to "fiddle" with all the time to keep it going. I have an Ender 3 I mess around with, but, when I want my other printers to print, they print. I haven't and don't plan on printing with TPU, so that's not really an issue, if/when I do, I have one that should print it without issue. People buy so much stuff with the hope "they might" do something and never use that feature. Mine do what I want them to do and that's enough for me and I am not excited about the "clumsy" layout of the Kingroon. Another thing you would have to print stuff for to "fix".

@CHEP -- you happen to miss highlighting the pros of the KP3S which are: 1. direct drive out of the box - allows printing of flexibles which is a strong advantage over the Ender 2 Pro 2. not sure if you checked the hot end if this is a V6 clone that has no PTFE tubing / all-metal hot end. Coz if it is, then that's another advantage over the Ender 2 Pro coz it further expands the types of filaments that can be printed on KP3S.

That separate PSU makes the whole point self-defeating. A power brick would be fine but not that. Otherwise I wouldn't expect much and don't see much to jusitfy either system except as tinkering / prototype systems for schools or whatnot. I think that in this day and age they could also save money by just requiring the customer sync to an open source phone app and just forego the screen. An app would be better and open source would mean people could improve it.

@@smoke2584 He's def a creality schill. But he makes some valid points. If someone wants a printer they can just setup and get ok prints with and never really touch it, the ender2 is probably that. I got a kingroon kp3s for christmas, and out of the box I had to lube the rails (I suppose this wasn't a must... but it made things way smoother), the z axis required some adjustment to get it just right. I've also added the flexible pei and a silicone sock. These are all stupid simple things, but someone new to printing wouldn't necessarily know to do these things. That said... In fairness to kingroon I didn't have to do any of these things to print. I've just done them as Klipper is the next step. Kingroon's firmware isn't open source. It is based on Marlin v1 . If you try to update the firmware the screen will need a print to make it a different direction. The KP3s is very cheap. That is why people turn to it. They kingroon didn't enable most things because they have the very basic marlin commands through the touch ui made by mks. the board is from MKS Robin Nano v1.2~1.3 - The board needs jumper wires soldered to be able to use it in UART mode. otherwise, they are A4988 mode in the firmware.

Tldr; Kingroon is for enthusiast tinkerers who mod their printer. Ender is for non enthusiasts who just want to print stuff. I wouldn't agree that the Ender is more for non enthusiasts just because it doesn't "need" so many workarounds. If it's all about the direct extruder there is one from creality which can be used for this machine as well (just as an example). So there is potential for modding on each of the printers. The thing is: if I want a printer for modding and tinkering I would buy a machine used for half the price and mod it. Because at the end it's not so important which printer you buy (especially when it's a first printer), it's more about how big it's community is, how easy spare parts are to get and what you make out of the printer. So most Creality, Anycubic, Sovol or Prusa meet this requirement and deliver good prints.
