Something strange happened while operating the tractor one morning. The check engine light popped on and immediately lost power. We thought the tractor was dead. But to our surprise, after 2 weeks of not using it, the next time it started up fine and no issues so far. So can you explain it? Can you help up trouble shoot our Kioti tractor?

Disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes and then reconnect the battery and wait a couple minutes and that will normally reset your computer and make sure you have winter diesel that will make a difference in cold weather. Thanks for all the great KZfaq content. 🇺🇸

Having struggled with a tractor/cab that would not fit under my garage door (and thus disallowed maintenance in the winter) I totally get it. Working outdoors is cold and wet but t least the natural light is a benefit. Maybe try a hoop house with a torpedo heater to make a well lit, wind proof, temporary shelter for keeping the tractor a good bit warmer and a place to do maintenance? Sounds crazy but a famous organic grower in Maine grows produce in cold weather using a hoop house with row covers. Also, I just picked up a Kioti dk90 which includes a standard creeper gear setup. I understand a creeper gear is good for blowing snow. Failing that, I have a Clearwater FL mobile home near the water on Tampa bay that has absolutely no snow and no tractors are allowed! It has not been used since covid. It needs a lot of remodeling help and a kitchen redo. You folks are welcome to use it next winter...

Winter grade fuel, and plug in your block heater, you can also add a magnetic heater to the bottom of your oil pan. Cleared snow for over 20 years. Get yourself a blower, you can get either a push, or an inverse blower for the back end run by your PTO. Good luck this winter!

I live in western Canada in Regina, Saskatchewan area and right now it is hovering around -40 Celsius. Needless to say, nothing runs on diesel in this weather unless it is a winter grade diesel with additive in the fuel ! A lot of truckers get caught using their summer diesel in the USA and if they come up here even for a day, they run into trouble with gelling.

If your having fuel issues during the cold, it wouldn't hurt to use a gallon of kerosene to a full tank. Solution used in upper Maine. I also noticed chains on your front wheels. That's a first. I run chains on rear tires. Also up here in Maine to help prevent rim corrosion, they put in beet juice. I would suggest a front mounted snowblower. Forget that backing up all the time to snowblow. I have a CK3510 HST and use the KS66-220FM snow blower. Works great for me.

Did the fuel gel? Is this the first fuel filter change? I lost power on my tractor due to a clogged filter. I never changed the filter before. Two weeks later I lost power again, turned out there was two fuel filters for my Kubota. I started changing my fuel filters every spring and fall. But, that is probably over doing it. Always keep a spare fuel filter on hand. Sometimes you may need to do the filter change in the field.

Was hard to tell if it gelled because it wasn't gelled in the filter. But yes the filter change was over due. Luckily we only have one fuel filter. but good advice none the less. probably very likely a contributor to the problem.

I don't have a Kioti tractor, but do have two John Deere tractors and never had that problem before on them. It sounds like it could be something simple though, and I would recommend checking the company's web site after reading your manual's troubleshooting section to find a solution to the problem. That tractor has too many filters on it and I don't have many on my John Deere 790, and it is about the same on my 3032E tractor. He should not screw his filters in too tight, but screw them in hand tight then give it another half turn to make sure it is tight and that is it.

Something that may be worth a look is the radiator and at times the fins can get blocked with dust or dry grass and likely on tractors and causes this to happen on cars . Look for the obvious before digging deeper , something often overlooked . When you put on a new filter, oil the gasket with clean engine oil other things may cause the gasket to fail and only tighten them hand tight .

Two BIG pieces of advice. 1. Always run an anti-Gel liquid like "power service". 2. Never idle a tractor with a DPF filter. I suspect your problems are fuel gelling/thickening and possibly regen issues with dpf filter. Any tractor with a dpf filter should never be run below 1400rpms, it will plug the dpf and as soon as that happens the problems never end. Good luck.

I would recommend that you use tired chains on all 4 or rear of tractor. This is to lessen front drive train problems due to taxing front axle. Ps multi is one of a few 4-wheel drive tractors as present time allow front tire chains without voiding warranty of drive train. Tires you have R-4 or R-14 ladder tire chains will work fine. V-bar or stud chains on ice or packed snow.

It might not be the case with Kioti, but many manufactures have a way to read the codes without diagnostic equipment. Like an old nintendo game, it requires a special series of inputs and there would be a light on the dash that flashes a specific code and that would correspond to an issue. I'd guess the light was for "low fuel pressure" from the gelled fuel, as others have stated. Low fuel pressure could cause mechanical issues with the injection pump, as it uses the fuel for cooling and lubrication. The block heater won't help the fuel in the tank or in the lines from the tank, but, if the fuel filter is near the block/under the hood, it can get enough residual heat to it to keep it from gelling and get you that "20 minutes of run time" until the fuel is drawn out of the filter and no more comes from the tank. Putting a magnetic heater or a regular heating pad on/near the fuel tank & transmission and a big blanket/ heavy tarp over the whole rig will keep the wind off and retain that heat. Fuel treatment is also necessary for cold conditions. Anything is better than nothing, but I like Cen-Pe-Co branded additives, Atomic Powered specifically for anti-gel.

Your fuel filter is freezing up. In the winter you definitely need either number 1 diesel or you need to add Power Service anti-gel to your fuel. I'm suprised you got the tractor to start at all. The warning engine light was probably just letting you know their was a fuel problem. Maybe an injector fault code or something. But your fuel filter will freeze up solid in that kind of cold and the fuel in your tank will gel too.

I'm familiar with your 400 hour filter & fluid replacement, as I just did mine last month. But I opted to have the dealer do it, and he sent out their mobile repair truck and did it in my yard. Cost about $600, but I didn't feel like doing it myself. Don''t know much about the snow blower you mentioned, but I think you're somewhat limited in the brand by whatever your local dealer handles. I bought a new 5 foot Buhler Farm King nearly 15 years ago for less than $2K, and love it. But I suppose their cost is much higher now. My JD tractor doesn't have a check engine light, so I'm no help on troubleshooting that.

if you have a water drain on your fuel filter,just crack it open and drain around 3 ounces of fuel then close the drain. this might help, the computer might detect water in the fuel filter. and cause engine light to appear. also add a diesel fuel conditioner,this well help thin out the fuel so it does not jell. Sounds like a fuel issue. Loss of power could easily be lack of fuel flow. You really need to use winter fuel addative to keep the fuel from jelling. If you had a scan tool the check engine light history would probably show fuel pressure / flow codes. "ArchOil" has oil and fuel addatives that are some of the best in the industry. They are available online at Amazon, etc. Keep your fuel tank level high to help stop moisture build up. Keep a close eye on your water seperator filter, too. I've been using ArchOil for 3 years. Most engines are equipped with a thermostat to regulate heat inside the engin block. The outside temperature has very little effect on the engine temperature. As long as the radiator, air filter, fuel filter are kept clean and free of contaminates. As for diesel fuel it is recommended to use -40deg fuel in winter months. If you cannot have this fuel add methalhydrate(wood alcohol) to the diesel. Here (Quebec Canada) we use one gal of methalhydrate to 100gal of diesel. As for you check engine indicator it could be many possibilities and there should be a fault code with most problems. One easy thing to check are all your electric and electronic connections and make sure they are clean and sealed with dielectric grease. Disconnect the battery before hand to prevent electric sparks when breaking the live contacts. One place you could first check is your operators manuel where there are trouble shooting tips and solutions. By the way never compare a Kioti to a Kubota because they are totally different machines even if they have the same colour. I know some Kioti dealers will say they are the same and some even say the parts are the same which is not true. Rear pro drive snow blowers work very well to remove snow and will cause less snow banks. These snow banks or snow pille that you do with a loader will result in higher snow drifts. With a snow bower, the snow is reduced by 90% in volume and therefor less snow banks.

My guess is a little water in fuel froze restricting fuel flow starving the engine of fuel. That would probably cause the check engine light to come on. When it warmed up enough the ice melted letting the engine run normally so the check engine light went off. Not familiar with that brand tractor but that would be my best guess. You may have got rid of the water when you changed filters. Recommend adding diesel fuel additive to take care of the water. Air filter may not need to be changed if you have mainly used it in the winter when there is snow and no dust. Diesel engine needs to warm up to operating temperature before working the tractor. Block heater would help there but I don't use one. I understand that diesel fuel can gel when it gets too cold. I have understood that fuel is mixed different for summer than winter for this reason. Fuel additive could probably also help with this. If that is correct and you bought the fuel in the summer it might make a difference during extreme cold although I have never had that problem but my tractor is inside an unheated building. i would blame water in the fuel first. Diesel fuel additive can help with both problems.

@@ColoradoMountainLiving I let mine warm up good, like run it for more then 30 min, I then put the parking brake on, shift to neutral, pop the hood up, lower the idle down as far as it will go and hold the re-gen button down until it kicks in, sometimes it will rev up and I'll let the button go and it will idle back down, I just simply hold it down till it kicks in and stays rev'd up, the regen process can take up to 20min, there is smoke at times that come out the muffler, all good. my sensors from the factory never go off for regen, I will sometimes get a check engine light and once a reduction of power, re-gen's have cleared all symptoms, that canister gets clogged sometimes and that causes the issues and needs to be burned off.

If the engine light is on or has been on it will have set a fault code that can be read by a fault reader. The fault code should pretty well tell you exactly what the cause of the problem is. This is what the service center should have done when they checked it and "reset" the computer.I'm guessing "reset" just means they cancelled the fault codes ... which is pointless if you don't fix the fault ...it'll just come back again. You can easily buy fault readers for cars so you can understand faults yourself but this may be more difficult for a tractor which is more specialised. Check the internet to see if anything is available.

What is all that white stuff! Where I live in the UK it has been so warm that I have not turned off my outside water taps. Regarding the snow fencing, of which I am no expert, where will the snow drifts form. I understand that fences with about 50% permeability create the biggest drifts but the drift is mainly in the lee of the fence. Will the drift that the fence between the bends creates extend across the drive. Solid fences (0% permeability) only create drifts about half the size of a 50% preamble fence but about a third of the drift will be to the windward of the fence. I wonder if the piles of snow, from ploughing, are acting as a solid fence and are causing drifting on their windward side, on the drive.
@ColoradoMountainLiving
@ColoradoMountainLiving 4 жыл бұрын
Yes that is where we have trouble. We try to remove the piles of snow far off the driveway to flatten them out, to reduce the airflow. Next summer, Bryan wants to grade the embankment so it's not abrupt and encouraging the drifting. About building a fence, it's something we'll have to consider the style, but hopefully it will reduce the problem somewhat, even if not 50%. If we get the snowblower, we won't have the issues with snow piles from plowing.
@johnclements6614
@johnclements6614 4 жыл бұрын
@@ColoradoMountainLiving Flattening, and better still removing, the snow piles and soil heaps will increase the airflow. The faster the wind over the drive the better, then the snow will blow off into the field to the east. If you build a snow fence you need to think about where it will deposit the snow. The old fence, was it orange plastic, looked to be about 2 foot high. Such a fence would increase the depth of snow about 60 feet down wind of the fence. I assume this would extend over the drive so the fence would increase the amount of ploughing required. I looked at "snow fence guide (tabler 1991)". May actual get below 0C here this weekend but no snow.

A set of edge tamers can be helpful when using a bucket to move snow. They prevent the bucket from digging into the soil or gravel. They just bolt on & off, so can be removed when not needed. Just google edge tamers...check it out!

My 4010 kioti just did the same thing check engine light came on and the tractor died. Later I started it and it ran fine for awhile and it did it again. The weather was cold. I took it in and they replaced a fuel control valve and they said it was fine now. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow and I can share the part number they replaced.

Change 1. Use synthetic engine and hydro oil they give 2 benefits handles lower temperatures this keep pumps from wear or failure due to thicker oil from low temps and more hours between oil changes and make sure filters are tight may blow filter seals we have kioti 2019 CK 40se hydro. Clean fuel may gel from low temp.. anti gel for fuel store tractor shed heated 45 degrees or warmer. Clogged fuel filer all can cause light problems.

I have a Kioti 7320 and my check light comes on and the rpm's drop down almost like its in a safe mode (Im in ga so it has nothing to do with cold weather here). Once the rpm's drop down you can drive 30 or 40 yards and then its just dies. Here is the strange part, it will start right back up and might go another 8 hours without any problems. The next day it might do it again or it might not. I just took it to the dealer and they can't solve the problem till its gets worst. I don't understand why the computer does not retain the code even if the light goes out...

I have a 2020 Rx 7320 that is doing the same thing. It first did it at about 10 hours. The dealer picked it up and had to call the factory to do some kind of computer reflash. It was fine until about 50 hours and it started to do it again. Took it back to the dealer and had it checked again. Each time they had to get on the phone with the factor to have the computer refreshed. Now at 100 hours and it just started happening again. If I shut it off it will crank right up and run fine. Strange. Im in Alabama. Its September. Not a fuel problem.

They"ve had enough complaints to warrant a team to look into the problem. If yours is doing it again, I would not wait around ,,,, take it back to the dealer asap. I have a 6620 cab and yes you have to shut it off and restart. Need to keep the RPM above 2000 it really dose not impact fuel usage .75 gph. Less check engine lights with high RPMs. Should have invested in a cab. You will be bundled up at 5 degrees. Adding anti-gil is a must !

my rx 7320 cel light comes on and back off about every 10-12 hours. my dealer said it could have a pice of trash stuck in an injector, water in fuel, of a electrical plug connector. They traced all wires, I replaced fuel filter, and added fuel treatments, they flashed a new program on the computer and so far it hasn’t done it again. In my case I turn my tractor off and then back on and get full power again.

Loose wiring?? Loose something? Have you contacted the manufacturer for advice/help? Fortunately with a car you can read the codes. Why do you think this is fuel or oil related? Seems like that would not set a check engine light on and off but a steady on.

On a car, the check engine light may come on and off, stay on, or flash. Some cars (for example) the check engine light will come on if you leave your gas cap off, or a light bulb is out. In those cases, you fix it, and the check engine light goes out. More severe codes will cause it to stay on. (ex: temp in catalytic converter too low). Then really severe codes will cause the check engine light to flash (engine misfire, or temp too high). Generally you can keep using a car with the check engine light on. But when it flashes, then you probably should not be driving it. You can clear the codes (shut off check engine light) by using a code reader, or just disconnecting the battery. then it will stay off, until another code comes up. Not sure if tractors work the same, but they can disappear if its a minor problem.

diesel fuel is problematic...diesel fuel will have water in it, microorganisms (bugs) will appear as black sludge living in the water while feeding on the fuel. the water will freeze and the sludge will clog your filters. a water indicating paste is a must to periodically check your fuel for water. Use of a biocide fuel treatment will also help control any bug issue, and finally the addition of a quality Racor type filter/separator is a must. Sounds like water in your fuel line may have froze causing rpms to drop and check eng light to come on

the problem is they put computers on small tractors, if you look at Danny's tractor on deep south home stead his Kubota he got it without computer stuff on it small tractors should never have computers on it or emissions stuff they will always screw up. on filters you only want to hand tighten them if you use a wrench you only want to turn it like a quarter turn, if you really tighten them, they don't want to come off, I had to drive a screw driver through some of them to get them off before. I guess it could be a fuel pressure problem, if there was a bit of water in the fuel filter and it froze and blocked some pressure it might've cause it to run stupid and throw a light on and when it passed the water it cleared back up and the light went off.
