Björk is a truly special artist, she's able to bridge both accessible pop stylings with crazy experimental concepts and she's been able to continually stay relevant and evolve throughout the years in ways many can't. In my top 10 artists ever honestly, her music is very special. Vespertine, Debut, and Post are the real standouts in her discography for me, but she doesn't have a bad album!

Don't sleep on Medulla as well, an underrated album. What makes it so interesting and special is that almost all of the instrumentation is made with human vocals, though sometimes barely recognisable as such.

Medulla is in my top 5 Björk albums. I just adore how adventurous and downright bizarre that album sounds. The fact that she made what's essentially an A Cappella album that sounds this inventive and original is a huge credit to her artistry.

I think on Sonic Symbolism, Bjork said that she wanted to make a bad/corny/weird album but I think she just can't help but make her music utterly spectacular. If people can't see that, then that's their loss lol. medulla enjoyers are the most based among society

Homogenic was the Inspiration for KID A by Radiohead. The sounds and incorporation of Classical instruments mixed with modern Synths , glitch, deep bass and those interesting glitchy sounds that adorn the songs is why Radiohead's sound evolved in their 2000 smash album. As others have shared , Unravel is Tom Yorke's favorite song. Not sure if you have listened to her 1995 album , Post. It's the predecessor to this album soundwise with a lil bit of Debut's style. Hyperballad (Post) is regarded as one of her Best Songs but also 1 of The best songs in Music.

I remember you mentioning that you wanted to branch out with what you were listening to on this channel, and I can't imagine how much joy that must bring. Bjork is definitely therapeutic for everyone who's had strong emotional experiences. When she belts out her vocals it gets right to the center. I've definitely teared up at her music. Also, as a drummer, I often point to her music for 'how to program drums'. I'm generally not a fan of people trying to emulate a real drummer, when they have such an amazing creation kit at their fingertips, to bring any percussive sounds to the table. So I'll tell them to listen to Bjork, or even Kid A, which has a similar rhythmic vibe. Anyway, I'm happy to see you delving into everything :). Rest, and good music, probably good food, and more rest, all helpful after a move.

It's so cool to see people reacting to this incredible album. At 36 (having first listened to most of the Homogenic songs when I was 17), I'm still awe of it. It's interesting how you reacted to Alarm Call because people usually describe it as "happy" and "carefree", but for me I interpret it as someone on a manic high trying to cope with things going wrong and "breathe in positivity" before an inevitable come down or crash (the crash in this situation being Pluto, which is one of the most cathartic things I've ever listened to and I can barely listen to it in full cos it's so intense.). And then the actual healing begins in All Is Full Of Love. The video version of the song is exceptional too. I also agree about the first half and the second half having different vibes as well. Bjork had an extremely rough year in her personal life in 1996. Homogenic I believe was a reaction to that, and the first half of the album feels more insular, while the second half is more like she''s getting more frustrated and like there's something's coming on the horizon. Very intelligently done and it's honestly my favourite album. It was great to see you enjoying it.

You are definitely right about it being a positive album, it made me feel like Bjork was a Mother Earth figure and there was a beating heart of a planet with moving land parts and lots growing around. I'm sure Bjork once said that she draws a lot from nature and the land around her as an influence to her writing. I managed to score one of the green vinyl reissues of this album, I guess that too suggests an Earthly vibe.

Your reaction to Alarm Call really made my day hahaha. It instantly became my favourite track from the album, and seems like such a slept on banger! I feel like I hear slight MJ vibes in there? Maybe?? This review couldn't have come at a better time! I just recently, at the ripe age of 29, listened through Björk's entire discography, earliest - latest, for the first time ever. Just heard people go on and on about her and I just felt like "Man I must be missing SOMETHING here, let's give it a go". I am now a big old Björk fan, who'd have thought. Absolutely incredible journey start to finish, but the 3 stand out albums are definitely Post, Homogenic and Vespertine, Vespertine being my personal fav and Homogenic being a VERY close 2nd. Hope you keep going down the Björk rabbit hole, cause I'll be here to watch ALL of those videos if you do!

In a career of masterpieces this one stands out. Bjork has said she was inspired during the creation of this album by the landscape of her home, Iceland; the complex electronic beats underneath traditional string arrangements, held together by that incredible, singular voice and some of her most emotional, volcanic songs, create a mix of futurism and timelessness that is unbelievably powerful. I'll be very interested to see what you make of her other work, she's an artist who is constantly changing and challenging herself.

Same thing with Bjork's first three albums. Dummy from Portishead, well you get the idea. The reason why I listen to reactions is that it makes me feel a bit like discovering the albums for the first time again. Your reactions are the ones that make me feel the closest to that feeling. All Neon Like definitely bears repeated listens. the character on the Homogenic cover is supposed to be like a radical warrior of love and I see this track as her nurturing the listener back to (emotional) health, cutting herself open to heal with the powers coursing through her. it's less of a straight up bop than the tracks before it, all of which are some of the most lauded in Bjork's entire career

Björk is pronounced B-yerk; rhymes with work or jerk. So many great songs on this album! I love listening to Hunter and Joga; love hearing the barrage of vocals crashing down on my ears … 30 Seconds to Mars covered Hunter. This album is full of strings and synths and bass. It’s “stripped down” and raw, which reminds her of home (Iceland). Unravel, Bachelorette (great video), and All Is Full of Love (must see video) round out my faves. All Neon Like, 5 Years, Immature, and Alarm Call are great complimentary tracks and Pluto is fast and fierce. It’s a great workout song.

Joga is about Yoga. The "state of emergency" is the state of mind in which yoga is supposed to put you, a state of full awareness, full consciousness, full lucidity. And also a state of readiness. There's a reference to the "state of emergency" in the "Dhammapada" which is the ancient sanscrit book that contains all the teachings of Buddha. There its said that in that state of mind you awake to the mysteries of the details. The coincidences make sense, the riddle gets solved, and can understand the story of the universe and how it follows "the dot" (the point of everything that seems to be chaos). And in that state of mind all your hurt is healed.

First time on your channel. "Radiohead is my favorite band." meanwhile, being this in to Homegenic 1 minute in...yeah, that all checks out. Honestly, I'm not even sure if the connection I'm making makes sense, but yeah. There it is.

Fantastic album :). It's amazing to me that she's had such a success considering her experimentation in music is usually limited to more underground genres. But considering she even recorded stuff with Current 93 (and HÖH) somewhere between 1986 and 1991, it's not too surprising that her future albums would sound so experimental.

You uploaded this a year ago so I'm sure you've caught up, but if you haven't check out the documentary about the making of this album. All of the percussion sounds on the album are sampled environmental sounds from Iceland. It's amazing. This is a uniquely Icelandic recording.

I hope u react to Vespertine soon! That’s my favorite album of all time. And the cherry on top is Björk just released a new song “Oral (feat Rosalia)” that was recorded right before Vespertines release.

I was listening to this album after a break up and dozed off awaking again to “don’t get angry with yourself I’ll heal you” and I was like thanks Bjork. So I really dig All Neon Like for a lot of reasons.
