This video is about Where I got my Experience. Views want to know why they should listen to me, so I try to provide a layout of my experience without going into too much detail to try to keep this video not too long. High lights are:
I received the Engineering Excellence Award from Boeing for work on the International Space Station Power Supply. I have received numerous awards throughout my career and have been a Power Supply Design engineer for most of my years, but I also was surge suppression engineer and I taught at the College level for 3 years. #background, #experience
I hope this is helps and I appreciate any comments.

Hey Eddie, thank you for opening up! You just confirmed what I was thinking all the time. It takes about 15min to tell if the person in front of you knows what he/she is talking about or not. after 5min of one of your videos I knew I was watching an expert :) Also my congratulations to your marriage! you know, a great man is supported by a great person in the shadows.

Yay! Vocational Industrial Clubs of America! Back in the 1990s I represented my state and won the silver medal at VICA's Nationals competition for Electronics Technology one year, and bronze the next year. Both were for the post-secondary division after high school, though high school was where I gained most of my electronics education before becoming an engineer. It's awesome that you got your start in electronics the same way. I'm still always out to learn something new, and you're right up there with some of the best electronics educators on KZfaq! Thank you, Eddie!

Nice resume, your qualified. I think the battery controllers on the electric cars, & the power supply's for them will be an enourmous new field. GM, has a Hummer, 1000 hp electric vehicle , If you charge it for 10 minutes =100 mile range. It has range of 500 miles. So with a vehicle that big, think of that power train , lets say in Ford Fusion, or a Malibu, & that range. Modified sine wave, vfd drive...

I remember an instructor in college who taught , the intro to electronics, 16 week semester, he had a double masters from IIt, in Illinois . He had a discussion about disruptive technology, were there. The oil industry is old, monied & very political ?

Thank you for sharing the tour of your career. As someone who is seeking the right niche the vast ocean of the electronics industry, I would find it super interesting and helpful to hear you talk about the skills you had going into each new job and the skills you acquired at said job/company which in turn allowed you to become a desirable candidate for the next job. Great idea to give us your resumé and really generous to give your time to producing these videos. Congratulations on your marriage - I'm guessing you'll be on honeymoon by now, if that is at all possible in the US! IOMega were really popular in the day - I had my share of zip drives etc - but I guess it was never going to survive the expanding capacity of disk drives at lower and lower prices. Not many people can say they worked on the ISS, I'd like to be able to have that one under my belt. There were a lot of ads interrupting this video, is that the way of KZfaq these days?
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andrew! Great to hear from you! We had family come in and I think for now that will do the trick;) It will be nice to get away though... IOMEGA had some great ideas when they got started, but silicon is hard to compete with. Yes I have been lucky to get around and land in some good roles. I hope this KZfaq turns out to be the best. I just got to find more time:) I think my new job won't be asking for me to work so much OT. BTW, when I worked on the ISS, I clocked over 90 hours in two different weeks! Sorry about the ads. Maybe they decided my video was worth advertising in;) If this continues to be a problem I think I can work it out. I'm still learning all the ins and outs of this.

Thanks for the in-person brief! I had looked you up on LinkedIn and gotten the major portions filled in and found that you weren't a pretender at all. It is a rare breed that has this extreme technical expertise combined with the personality and skills of a genuine human with an empathetic and outgoing bent. It really is no wonder you have done as well as you have (but you're never going to get rich in Utah :) Best wishes to you on your third time around...may it truly be the charm!

Just found your channel, referral from another YTChannel, and wish you the very best on your marriage. I also worked in the contractor-defense world for L3 and others so I very much look forward to viewing your videos in the coming months. I especially love analog since I started my electronics career at Peavey Electronics and gained a lot of my experience there. Be well and stay safe.

Well before you get too big to personally respond to your commenters I'd like to say that I really appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge and expertise with all of us. Your background is pretty incredible and as someone else already said your intellectual generosity and humility in consideration of your curriculum is unbelievable; hearing about the first big D after 13 years got me right in the feels and I'm glad you were able to make it through with your amicable nature intact. Hope things continue to go well for you. Only recently found your channel after seeing your Fluke rant about them being overpriced :P This video helped clear up whether you knew what you were talking about. You certainly do. :)

Hi Eddie, I just stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago and I love the content. I am just an amateur who loves electronics and computer stuff and I follow a number of the electronics channels on youtube. I think you have an amazing resume and built up a lot of experience over the years. It is really great you are sharing that knowledge with us. We can all learn from that which is great. I thank you for sharing this personal story and hope to see more interesting projects in the future. And congrats with your marriage! My best from The Netherlands! Congratulations on your wedding I think you've had it now lol I was thinking of this what about designing a switch mode power supply for Valve equipment something lacking and people don't understand, maybe universal that can be used in Multiple valve types of equipment. I think people missing the opportunity with valve Gear to Changer power supply from the old type Transformers to smps, you seem like the guy that would build a very good switch-mode power supply, maybe sell the blueprint and a kit and do the build on KZfaq bring some revenue in. What is the best frequency to run a switch mode power supply for audio equipment 120 kilohertz or should it be higher? Some advice how do you find luck in love doesn't come my way

Thanks John! I need all the luck I can get;) I have actually thought about that, and the lack of PS for Valve equipment. I think many must think that it is crazy to mix old with new - but why not;) Thanks for the feedback and ideas!!

I know this was a while ago, so I am a bit late to the party so to say. I saw your other video about a book the I accidentally found and decided to read which was Power Supply CookBook 2nd edition by Marty Brown I think. I thought it was interesting but I also found out that some of the information in that book was incorrect as well as some reviews sort of bashed it a bit. Anyway this was a second video that I watched and I must say that I find this very interesting. If I understand right, you don't have a formal EE degree but you have been in all sort of positions of that caliber? Nevertheless, very interesting video, thanks for upload. I just love that the fact that you did what you liked, like insisting on just trying to get to Utah and did not really care much about the money.

Thanks for your great feedback. Actually I do have an engineering degree, but I was given a full engineering promotion at Lear Astronics as I was doing the work as an EE before I actually graduated. I was finishing my last year at UCLA but was also working full time. I became a senior engineer just 1 year after graduating;) I started off fast and have been busy ever since;) The Marty Brown book is an easy read and is mostly correct, so I think it is a good starter book. He is an actual design engineer - where a lot of people writing books are teachers and not real design engineers;)

Eddie i so admire you for telling us where your passion in electronics has taken you. For me it's next impossible as an electronics guy to openly talk about stuff like this as it's personal i guess and for me i fear what others will think of me, so thanks for making a vid on this topic. Congrats on the marriage too, that's so great you have a special someone else to share your life. Final question... was the beeping the low-battery alarm on your wireless mic setup which was already doing some nasty random audio noise from the start?

@@KissAnalog I traveled a similar path and built my electronics business over many years . Unfortunately this requires many hours at nights and weekends working and if the spousal unit is not aligned and buys into this the trouble begins - The bizarre aspect is they claim to want attention BUT on their time schedule , and often get marriage advice from other woman who often don't have a rosy flight plan themselves. The only thing that matters is negotiated agreement , keeping fingers on the pulse and most importantly managing and controlling the signal to noise ratio.
