Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
When I was a young man and never been kissed;
I got to thinking what i had missed.
Got me girl and I kissed her and then...
Oh lord i kissed her again.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
He asked would I marry and be his sweet wife;
And we would beso happy all of our life.
He begged and he pleaded like a natural man and then...
Oh lord i gave him my hand.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
I worked mighty hard and so did my wife;
Working hand in hand to make a good life.
Corn in the field and wheat in the bin and then...
Oh lord i was the father of twins.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Our children numbered just about four
They all had sweethearts a'knockin' at the door
They all got married and they didn't hesitate
I was, oh lord, grandmother of eight
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Now we are old, and ready to go,
We get to thinkin' what happened a long time ago.
Had a lot of kids, trouble and pain,
But, Oh Lord, We'd do it again.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.

Such a beautiful song, performed by a great folk group. Unfortunately for us all they were blacklisted during McCarthy era. Personally this song makes me think of what I've missed in my life, a perfect partner throughout.

One of the best folk music groups ever. This song, in particular, is very moving. The combination of the lyrics, guitar, banjo, the beautiful harmony of their voices and sensitive presentation of the text. Much of their work will remain timeless and their memory will live on.

Thank You for putting this on here. I was born in 1979 and a real pop music buff. I know almost everything from the start of the Rock and Roll Era in 1955 and afterwards. I want to learn more! So I started going before 1955. Right now I am doing 1951. And it is only because I am a big Pete Seeger fan that I am currently interested in learning about The Weavers. And It is because of the Jimmy Rodgers version that I know of this song. So I was in double heaven when I learned The Weavers sang this

I listened to this all the time when I was little and now I sing it when I'm putting away laundry or waiting for the bus because it's a story song to keep myself occupied. The Carnegie Hall album was my favorite album when I was little.

Well this song is just all kinds of lovely! I love the Bent song that samples Nana Miskouri's version of it in German, but this is a delight.

I have these vinyl records with some of their live performances, and this song is one of them (although it isn't this recording). They were incredibly influential (in my life as well as the folk music industry), and I only wish that I had been alive to see them at the peak of their popularity... I wish that very often about music. I was born in 2002, too late to see even the rise of alternative in the 90's. ;-;

Lots of bands take others songs. Like bands today doing their versions of older songs. Lots have to pay for them.

The tune was one that Leadbelly had used. However he himself borrowed it from an old Irish folk song. The Weavers wrote these lyrics. As Solomon once said, there is nothing new under the sun.

Interesting comment. I loved Bonnie Rait & Jackson Brown version, research who wrote this version, irish folk, lead belly, weavers so on. I like all of them.
