How you treat strangers says more about you than how you treat loved ones. My mom is almost 60 and she was asked questions when she had to buy a couple large gift cards. She needed them for actual gifts but she appreciated that they took the time to protect her. Good for you for going the extra mile, not everyone bothers and it says a lot about you. That's the closest thing to true altruism that exists, because you don't have much to gain and often people will be annoyed rather than grateful. At least you are doing what's right anyway.

I was a head bookkeeper at a supermarket and we physically processed the western unions (the terminal was in the cash office) someone at the desk would take the money. I had this elderly man come in trying to send $5k. It is a large amount and requires an ID to send. He was sending it to a different country so everything about it was suspicious. I walked out and asked what he was sending it for. And he was not happy with me from the second I questioned it. I finally get out of him that he was told that he won a shit ton of money (in a lottery of some kind) and I told him it was a scam and he got very angry with me lol. I got the whole, “MISS… I think Id know if I were being scammed.” I was like 22 at the time and I was definitely getting “young lady!” vibes from his anger. I tried as respectfully as possible to explain to him that it was a common scam/ that you can’t really win lotteries that you didn’t enter/ that it doesn’t make sense that you need to pay money to receive money. And he wasn’t having it. Told me someone else would send the money for him and at the time I basically was the end all be all with that western union machine. Like the store director wouldn’t override my decision. So I apologized but I told him that no one would be processing that transaction for him. He left very upset and saying that he was going to call the western union 1-800 # on me. He must have bc 2 months later I received an “eagle eye” award from western union and a $50 money order type check for stopping fraud lmao 🤣 I just hope that the western union agent informed that man that it was actually a scam so he wouldn’t try again.

This type of scam is aimed at the elderly. They tend to be less tech savvy, easily rattled and from a more trusting time. Add cognitive decline and yes, it becomes quite understandable that the elderly could fall for even the most obvious scams

This shows how relentless and egoistic scammers truly are. Even when the scammed person would be in a possibly dangerous situation, they still insist on getting an effing gift code asap. They're absolutely fine with people's lives getting destroyed by them. It's so disgusting

@@Awesomewolfpic actually it doesn't matter where they're from there's scammers in every country across the globe, in America your neighbor will scam you for everything you got then break into your home and take everything including your food and act like nothing happened still smiling in your face not giving a damn because it's not their life that's ruined, plus out of sight out of mind they can easily distance themselves from the entire situation just like killers do. Many scammers are narcissists and sociopaths so it's apart of their warped mentality.

Sad Truth is the scammers are simply at a job making slightly above scraping by. They get rewarded for scamming people for a bit of extra cash or a little benefit. Sad sad circle is what it really is.
