Spirit burners are under appreciated by so many outdoors types. Several years ago I did a trade trip to Jamtland and Trangia were one of the sponsors, it gave me a new found appreciation for something so simple, especially how quiet and relaxing they are to use.

YES! 2 cups canteen I have done that since I was in the Army. I dont mind a 58 bottle and cup set. Im just a hiker now. The crusader cup and issue plastic cup in a kit. Good sized cup for Nescafe 3 in 1 and I often throw one in the top of a pack for my coffee cup. But hey i got piles of kit I still use. I also use Nalgenes and i think it was toaks cheapest on Ebay anyway i use 2 as well. 2 cups canteen and a frypan or dixie is perfect. Either steak or sausages. Fried with onion gravy. Cups canteens for boiling dehydrated peas and some fresh carrot. Other cup for instant mash 🥔. Now that's a fine meal after hiking all day. Detractors may say yuk instant mash. But tbh who wants to peel boil 30 mins plus try mash it in a cup. Instant mash is ok with a bit of gravy. A hip flask of nice whiskey a shot in with the fried onions before making the gravy on it covers any flavour of instant mash up, and it's a great feeling tired, hot meal, contented in nature. And you can achieve that meal al on 1 burner easy

Good kit, could have a small dry sack with your spork/bandana/hot chocs etc that slips into your Nalgene if you only use it at camp, gives an extra space in your tin for an additional item without taking up additional space! If the Nalgene is used whilst travelling it will be less useful though I think... Have fun!

Carrying certain length (~1m?) of aluminium foil to be used as wind shield might save some fuel as it also reflects the heat. Another option for that purpose is a large disposable aluminium oven pan. They have also some other uses like water proofing your sitting place.

A kitchen/eating kit without a knife? Two possibilities, I think: the assumption that one is carrying a belt or pocket knife, or, that one is not going to be "out there" for very long and is prepared to rough it till one gets back home. In either event I would at the very least include a small paring knife (eg Victorinox make an excellent one!). These are very useful and very light (21 grams). What’s redundant...what’s complicated...? Hike your own hike & if you ain’t got anything positive to say...keep your trap shut.
@inforestsandlands
@inforestsandlands Ай бұрын
@TrespassingPilot129 complicated by which measure ? Even tho I say in every video, my kit is built for me, and "comment ninjas I get it," people feel the need to say. So I will take the hit and this one and provide context. I am a full-time outdoor instructor. I teach at schools all over the world. So my kit leans a little into that. I spend 4-5 days a week in the woods for work and usually the weekends, too. The reason for this is I live in a cabin in the mountains between the swedish/norwegian border. I am also the full-time lead field tester for Helle Knives and one of their main knife designers. So this kit is more towards comfort for a guy who works 5 days a week in the woods. Convenience mixed with a bit of inconvenience. It's not my UL hiking kit or a kit should the Argentinians suddenly invade. I share it as I hope it inspires folk with ideas for their own kit on their own journey.
