Here's an updated, simpler version of my recipe on how to make tater tots at home. The result is a golden brown tot with and a fluffy interior and little bit of potato that lend great texture to each bite. Included in the video are two different ways that you can form each tater tot. This recipe is hands-down the easiest way to make gourmet tater tots at home. Give it a try!

Awesome. No tricks to the recipe. It's pretty simple straight-forward. The most difficult step is to maintain consistent oil temp.

insanely good! I haven't thought of tater tots in a long time, as I have lived in the UK for a long time, but man, this brought me back to being a kid..but better! They were seriously perfect. Thank you for another great little recipe. For anyone in the UK, we don't seem to have wondra here, so I heated up bread flour in a tiny pan, and it worked perfectly. :)

Great method, Tim! I imagine the spritzing with vinegar also helps set the pectins in the potato as well and helps promote crunchy exteriors. It reminds me of making sushi rice where a little rice wine vinegar and mirin are mixed with the rice as it cools and helps prevent too much stickiness.

I can't believe you don't have a gazillion subscribers, your videos are so instructive and fun to watch! Super relatable when you ate the hot tot during the intro 😆 Silly question; is there a way to DIY wonder flour if it can't be found in the store or online? Asking for a friend... 🤥 Edit: just checked Amazon and it goes for a dollar an ounce or more which, on a fixed income, is a bit, well, ouch! In your experience is that on par with the normal price or just more pandemic related price gouging?

That sounds high, but I can't remember how much I pay at my local store. I don't use it much so the little blue container goes a long way. Another viewer toasted some flour, then used it in the mixture. She said it worked like a charm. Maybe also try cornstarch or potato flour?
@ForbiddenChocolate
@ForbiddenChocolate 4 жыл бұрын
@@KitchenCraftFood I was thinking about substituting cornstarch, glad you think it might work also. I do like the idea of toasting the flour so I'll try that first. Thanks!

Hi Tim, I'm redoing my kitchen and i am going to put in wood counter tops. Your counter tops look grate, what wood did you use? Have you had any problems with an under counter sink instillation?
@KitchenCraftFood
@KitchenCraftFood 4 жыл бұрын
We used oak for our countertops and I finished them with a product called Waterlox. They've held up well for the last four years, but now it's time to refinish. We've had zero issues with water damage around the sink and the under-mount sink wasn't an issue at all to install. Just make sure whoever is routing out the hole for the basin is good at it. They only have one shot!

After you make the cylinders do you put them in the fridge or freezer before frying or they go into the oil at room temperature?
@KitchenCraftFood

In the video I keep them at room temp, but they'll probably set up a little better if you refrigerate the cylinders for 30 minutes or so.

Finally (2yrs ago), someone looked at “production”. In 2023, I can’t find tater tots (for a reasonable price, ) at all. So, twenty pounds of ‘taters later, they only cost time (with my wife, my life partner). I don’t see a downside to any of this!

@KitchenCraftFood

There are differences in the texture. I prefer version #1's texture...crispier with more pronounced bits of potato for better texture. The trade off is the difficulty level. Version #2 is much much easier.

Too much work for me. I would only do this if I was making it in mass production. I might do this sometime with a 15 pound bag of potatoes. I would roll them up stick them in the freezer and get them out as much as I need until they were gone.
