I completely agree with you that for normal infantrymen the protection againts shrapnell is far more important. Litearlly every military on the world (or at least that i know of feel free to correct me maybe some rich countries with relatively small numbers of soldiers that can afford it like Switzerland or Singapore) currently issues helmets that can only stop pistol rounds (and most likely wouldnt even stop the more expensive armor piercing rounds) for their grunts even the americans which spend more money than anyone. The technology simply isnt there yet unlike modern body armor which is still too expensive at the moment for regular infantry. The main focus is still on shrapnel protection and weight reduction because neck pain. That is why i think the 6b47 isnt that bad for regular russian army mich 2000 is better but still good enough. But this particullar helmet is meant to be for special (if i understand the video correctly) and anti terror forces which are much more likely to come under direct fire. From that aspect this helmet is trash and it is no wonder that FSB and other russian special forces want better helmet. by the way if you managed to read this far and i made some terrible grammar errors im sorry I still learn the language. Heavier armor is not better armor, for infantry. Especially since rifles are still gonna pierce it.

Also it doesn't make any sense imo why a basic steel helmet offers the same protection as a aramid SPECTRA or 6b47. Maybe if it was a SSH 68N or M with the added aramid lining but not basic steel, especially since they actually have inferior protection due to the steeper slope when compared to older Soviet helmets

@@alexguymon7117 I was just making a tarkov joke, theyre very similar. And yeah the game is poorly balanced af. The ssh68 was only rated for like 32acp irl iirc. The 6b47 is only gost 1 as well.

SSH40 wins all the way in price/protection rating.

the 6b47 is lighter and has mounts+ i think the shell form factor and surface area were superior in protection. the 6b47 is also way more confortable to wear. dont forget its an army helmet ( mainly lightweight and frag protection are top priority ) and its already good that it performed above its characteristics.

Those army helmet has better flag protection while staying light It is not designed to get shot by pistol bullet, hence some of those army helmet will delaminates when shot by higher power pistol due to the fact that the layer is sticker together with aheresive to safe weight. It makes them easier to lose structural integrity when hit by heavy project like bullet, but they are superior to older helmet when it comes to shrapnel protection. Older helmet may perform slightly better in test against bullet. But against shrapnel, many of those helmet has worse rating. You can’t say they are objective worse or worse quality. Just has different priorities that sacrificed other. Army prefer light weight and shrapnel protections, so designer design it in a way that make helmet like 6B47 light, provide good shrapnel protection (with rating similar to older and many newer western helmet), while easier to lose structural integrity. Oxide video provide test of protection against bullet, not against artillery shrapnel which is the focus of standard RU army helmet. Shrapnel protections has no direct correlation with bullet protection. But kiver RSP is really a POS for both police helmet and army helmet. 6B47 and 6B7M has superior shrapnel protection rating than it.

The ECH has better protection than almost anything on its weight range.

Hell even PASGT stomp most of modern Russian helmet in protection. Now I know why the ruskie use Chinese militech instead

Pasgt has worse rating against shrapnel/fragment(V50) than 6B47 So it is not completely true to say PASGT is completely superior. PASGT is better for stopping pistols ammo due to lower deformations, but worse against fragment Oxide test is related to bullet threat. Stopping fragment sometimes has different requirements. Like the SSh 40 can stop many pistol threat better than SSH 68 but is worse against fragment threat. Russian army helmet designed to be lighter and aims toward Fragment threat. Without better material, Designers omit the ahersive between the material layers, which reduce weight and provide similar fragment protection compare to other helmets which has ahersive, but this make it easier to deform when hit and suffer worse against bullet threat which has more blunt force, making it easier to deform. Ru army mostly use their own helmet, not chinese one now. They buy chinese one on their own (spec ops)early on not for better protection, but for getting FAST style helmet that is cheaper as early on it is not produced in Russia and genuine FAST helmet is expensive. Now they switch to TOR, Lzh-1+ and spartan 3, which is russian made. For you PASGT or its derivatives,ACH etc is better since you are unlikely to get hit by fragments from Artillery and wear a helmet for at least 10 hours. But I agree Kiver RSP is a pos in term of helmets. It is worse than 6B47, 6B7-1m in terms of fragment protection, while bullet protection is still not good as others

I think the result is pretty obvious, ECH is far more superior.
