Today I have bought you down to Lyell River Public Gold Fossicking Location! A very historic spot to the area and it use to be a bustling little township, built up around gold. As you will see in this video, that is not the case anymore.
In the recent past some big nuggets have been pulled out of this region, given why this spot has been hammered over the recent years. Enjoy the walk and take in the beauty of the area! Enjoy the watch.

Great video, well balanced and very easy to follow-helps to have someone working the bucket and sluice and enables much more paydirt to be dug. Plus try and show the camping spots as well-Have done well at Lyell over the years with nice nuggety gold up the top near the old vein you went into. Have to dig down to the bedrock to get it as all the rubble sitting on it moves with each flood. Pick a spot of bedrock on the bank and follow it out across the river, especially focus on the upstream side of any ledges in it. Gold hits and drops solid objects except big round boulders, it swings around the sides and many people make the mistake of digging behind it in the eddy but not worth it. When you start to get better colour as you head down, stay there. I worked one 3m2 spot for 4 years and there was no way I was moving.

Loving your videos. Great to see someone in NZ videoing their gold prospecting efforts. I had a great great grandfather who tootled off to Hokitika in the late 1800’s to find a bit of NZ gold

That eddy you were panning in is a prime spot, you can also put the GM1000 in all metal deep and find the line of heavies in the creek. Your experience is growing, knowledge is everything, keep the vids coming, nice work.

My vid on seasoning your gold pan could help with some of the micro fly poo gold as the scratches across help trap the gold as you back pan the black sands. Just a thought for you. I do agree with this way of life and thinking, but unfortunatly there are laws which may financially bite you pretty hard if you decide to go against them. Not everyone is as mindfull as others so I am just sharing what I know where I can 😁 this magical spot is worth checking out, especially if your looking for a little bit of gold to take home with you. Hi Levi. Yes, it was a tunnel cut to divert the creek to expose the dried up bed. I don't think it was successful due to the radical rainfall & floods the West Coast is known for. Some big nuggets came out of Lyell. I am always reminded how similar your bush is to the West Coast bush. Happy hunting. :)

Very nice vid of Lyell creek, was there back in 93... lot's of sandflies :-( Before you put your sluice to work, i didn't see you test pan the spot you those, why? by testing, you could up the result by so much! Regards from Switzerland

No but I orderd mine from ebay not direct from the supplier so that might have been somthing to do with it, shipping mught still be abit funkey if ordering anything from the states. Hope yours pulls through for you ⛏🧀🔥🤪😁🤙
