If you hold the wand more vertical it works better or even turning it occasionally ive found helps

Hello, I am wanting to know how to use this to trace pathway lights in a gated community. There is a transformer box on the side of each home, but each transformer powers the pathway lights to the house adjacent. I suppose they didn't want to wire under the driveway/concrete. How would I connect the Klein transmitter to trace the wires for a pathway light? Would I remove the wires from the transformer box and attach alligator connectors and de-engergize the circuit first? Thank you so much for any help.

Can the transmitter be connected to the line side of a 3 phase sub panel to locate where it is connected to the main panel?

Yes it can as long as the voltage is 480V or less.

Just received the ET450 today… is there any way to use this to find a ground fault/dead short? Thanks in advanced, glad I subscribed to your channel!

I haven’t tried finding a dead short with it. Not sure if it has that capability. I do believe Klein has a tool that will trace out dead shorts and tell you how far down the line the short is. (Don’t quote me on this. My info is second hand) The ET450 has a decent learning curve, but once you figure it out, it will pay for itself on quoted jobs. Thank you for the follow. Cheers.

I ran power from 1 building to another and buried the lines 24-36 inches deep. 1 of the 2 "hot" lines is not providing power to the other building. Can I use this to identify where the break in the line is without digging up the line?

I was able to find a buried wire NMWU #12/2 wire buried about 18”. The signal was very faint but the wand was still able to pick it up. I followed the signal until it stopped. I dug in that spot and found the break. With that said… I feel like i got lucky. I would honestly try to rent a bigger wire locator that is designed to penetrate the depth you are looking for. I think some Home Depots rent them. In Canada there are companies that offer that kind of service. The ET450 is around $250.00 CAD.. the bigger scanners are $1000-$8000.00 CAD.
