These guys passed away long time ago (G. Lewis, Papa John Joseph, and others). But they left something after them, so we can now enjoy and wonder just how good they were. And those who will come after us will enjoy this music too. That said, it is strange in a way just how human life is limited, but at the same time it s fantastic indeed that humans can create something immortal like this music. Something for eternity ... .

From the soul. Music cut to the bone. No amount of technical ability can compete.

I prefer the other version by George Lewis with Papa Bue but this one is good. The other has more zip. You can find it on KZfaq too.

I´m in love with George lewis and his way playing clarinet. I´ve tried to write down the scores of this piece but didn´t succeed. Does anybody know how to get the score of this song for clarinet? even I´ve googled but I didn´t get any result. Keep enjoying !

This is celebrating Christ’s crucifixion , like with gospel church music , part of the origins of jazz spirituals even if you don’t believe

George Lewis is not the greatest because there is no one who could even remotely be compared with him. Any comparison would be meaningless. He is in a special category all by himself, above all others.
