Those complaining about the cost, think about it this way, a bad accident can cost tens of thousands of dollars. And possibly change the rest of your life. Plus the pain and discomfort during recovery and rehab. Alpinestars make vest that dont have suscription costs.

Yes true. And the Alpinestars Tech 5 looks to provide greater overall pprotection compared to Klim. I am reading and seeing reviews that are saying that the Tech Air 5 is only generally suitable for on road/track use and should only be used for light off road. Not sure of the tructh in that but in one review a Alpinestars rep seems to back up those statements.

Klim In&motion does not have a subscription cost either if you choose the classic formula and it will cost about the same as the alpinestars if you buy both vest and in&motion box. The difference in&motion gives you the choice to choose lease or buy formula. All the others don't. Alpinestars gives better protection over the shoulders and collarbone, but they do not protect the neckarea. It is a choice you have to make yourself

Interesting review mate, thanks. Holy crap, it's cheaper to get your ribs replaced though! ;)

I know, and the price for both the vest and cartridges is a massive turn off for most.

Thanks for your video and sharing your experience. I recently bought one too. Was the vest in road or off road when when you crashed?

Adventure, off road.

@@HardPackedADV This is good information. Looking back on it, it looks like a get off that's right on the "edge" of what I'd want the bag to go off for in ADV mode. Do you know how fast you were going, roughly? Also, do you have any personal sense of how "essential" it was the bag go off given the kind of movement involved? I'm just wondering how tolerant the ADV mode's algorithm is of low speed drops/falls/incidents, or even particularly dramatic/sudden jolts while staying upright. Technical riding can involve multiple, relatively harmless low speed incidents and many "wild" moments -even intentional ones - that we just ride through. I obviously wouldn't want to go through 2-3 charges (and take the time to reset the vest) on a more challenging off-road day. Thanks for any thoughts!

looks like a good unit but WOW what a price gouge. That In&box brain being a separate cost makes it way too expensive for the average Joe. If they made the whole system cheaper they'd sell a lot more (and make as much money) and save thousands of lives!

I completely agree with your viewpoint. I'm uncertain about where the cost lies in the vest. Creating the vest itself shouldn't be expensive as it's nothing groundbreaking. As for the command module, I believe it wouldn't cost much to produce, and any technology investment should be recouped through sales. There's truly no justification for the high price of the replacement cartridges.

Mate I watched the part where you remove the In&box several times now - how do you do it? I can’t get mine out and am afraid to break something if I use more force, is there a trick?

It's not a great design. Fairly poorly designed considering the price you pay for it. I tend to push down on it a slight bit and then slide it out.

I recently crashed my T7 whilst riding in deep ruts and re-broke my healing ribs (which I broke in May). I really want an airbag vest that covers the ribs before my next rally in Morocco April 2024. Not sure if I'm going to take a chance with the Klim Ai-1.

Have a look at Dainese, I believe that theirs has side protection. But it does use two cannisters and to reset it it needs to go back to the manufacturer, they may have changed this.

Look at the Helite Turtle 2 either mechanical or electronic trigger. No subscription and you don't need to send back to HQ to reset.

@@mranvo Just to be clear for other readers, the Klim doesn't need to go back to the factory, either, and can be repacked in the field (as long as you have a spare Argon charge canister). Alpinestars and, I believe, Dianese, do need to go back to the factory after each charge

Glad your ok, but c'mon mate, the title is a bit of an attention grabber, no? It did not EXPLODE, it deployed exactly as designed! I have one, have you to drop with it, but love the peace of mind..
