Я считаю эту пару одной из самых гениальных чистых загадочных и красивейших за всю историю фигурного катания. Моё почтение и преклонение. Эстетика и незапятнанность.

The magnificent lift they do at 2:40 is, in my humble opinion, the single greatest ice dancing move I've ever seen. So beautiful- so difficult- so perfectly wed to the music. It just doesn't get any better than this.

this is easily their best program. far superior to their 1992 free dance. sandra is wrong to criticize their style change. skaters should always push the envelope and try different styles. too often top skaters stay with the tried and true. e.g. hanyu did the same programs and styles and music over and over. by 2022 he had become a caricature of himself.

Hanyu's programs are not only repetitive but he repeated the SAME programs over and over again

@@dc19921000True, he kept skating the same program over and over again after Sochi, even without changing costumes. I mean trying new styles may not worth it, but stick with the same style and stay in one's comfort zone is definitely not a good idea.

The choreography was so clever. I wonder, if it wasn't for the British judge whether this pair would have won. They did get lots of 5.9s for technical.

They looked uncomfortable throughout the entire competition. Their relationship with Natalia Dubova had soured tremendously (they accused her of not allowing them to change their style and also of favouring U&Z). But there was also the matter of Marina testing positive for steroids at Europeans earlier that season which resulted in lost training time. It was greatly unfortunate.

The general consensus is that this was the year Usova and Zhulin should have won.

+Chris Gatchalian U&Z's Paganini free dance was absolutely stunning but the content didn't come close to K&P's free dance. Many didn't care for K&P's avant-garde interpretation of Lawrence of Arabia but I personally thought it was brilliant and the range of steps, edges, handholds, lifts, spins, and twizzles was superlative, much more so than either the Duchesnays or Usova & Zhulin.

They were way better at Europeans. Here, the outside problems really affected their skating and performance level. They seemed much heavier here than at Euros and it didn't seem as easy for them. I also think they lost a good bit of confidence after having to skate after the Duschenays received that monster reaction (two years in a row). They probably felt like nothing they did would receive the popularity of the Duschenays' technically-inferior, sloppy but compelling style.

The judges conspired to put the duchesnay in the first place. And the stupid bezec lapped iit up. That rumor monger has not credibility whatsoever. She just wanted to see anybody but the two soviet teams atop the podium.

Such incredible difficulty, none could match their technical abilities. But they placed 2nd in the FD? I thought what had happened was that none of the top 3 couples had enough 1st place ordinals to win the FD so they had to look at 1st and 2nd ordinals. This couple had the most 1st & 2nd places so they won the FD but since they were too far behind after the CD & OD, they could only place 2nd. D&D had next highest ordinal count and so they won the gold. I might very well be wrong though.

They won the free dance. But they placed third in cd and od. U/Z won both. So the judges had to place U/Z third in fd to make sure D/D won the title, despite finishing 2nd in all 4 dances.

The ordinals were all over the place at this event, which did make it exciting. Usova & Zhulin actually got FOUR 1st place ordinals in the free dance out of 9 judges, and yet still somehow dropped from 1st to 3rd overall.

@@gk891 I remember at the time, regardless of merits, I felt awful for Usova & Zhulin losing so many split decisions or ordinal flips in big events. 91 worlds and 94 Europeans they were an ordinal flip or something from being 1st and wound up 3rd. Losing the 94 Olympics by a tenth too. Now with the new age of the internet knowing what a disgusting human being he is though, I am so happy he of all people got to experience that bitter feeling over and over again. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. I knew about the affair with Pasha, and the divorce from Maya, but I really did not get the full scope of what a truly awful man he was until the internet era. Even though Maya is overrated as a skater and the weaker partner skating wise I do feel bad for her though. Imagine going through all that and so many tough defeats, while also dealing with cheating, awful husband Zhulin at the same time. Zhulin though in retrospect I am so deliriously happy got to experience that. Then watch his 3rd wife (who then left him after cheating on him with a younger guy, karma) Navka win the Olympic Gold he couldn't win too.

this year klimova and ponomarenko were WAY better than the duchesnays. The french should've won the year befor and the russians this year. And i'm a great duchesnays fan

How can we compare 2 differents styles? And the Duchesnays only won one gold medal in their carrier in 1991! they had merited others results for their modernity and originals programs!!!

While D&D had a very spirited and very compelling free dance in 1990, their compulsories were nowhere near as good Klimova & Ponomarenko`s and their OSP was entertaining but was skated very far apart from one another. D&D may be fantastic storytellers and performers but they`re not the greatest skaters. And the first set of marks need to reflect that which is why D&D are not close to K&P.
