Is Klown the next big thing in cult comedies?
Imported from Denmark, the risque, ribald comedy Klown is set for a release On Demand here in the states. Dan, Alex, and Jeff take a look at the movie, which has been described as Curb Your Enthusiasm meets The Hangover. Is it a new comedy cult film that you have to see, or does it deserve a shnozzle of its own?

I'm Danish and I too believe the neckless thing to be an absurdity that for some reason is acceptable in the world of the movie.

Being Danish, and having watched the movie ages ago, i can truthfully say - if you like absurd comedies and aren't too easily offended, this is a fine movie. Also, Alex, A bitter in Denmark normally refers to a bitter flavoured malt liquor. A typical one would be "Gammel Dansk" or translated "Old Danish" which is flavoured with herbs and spices including star anise, nutmeg, ginger, laurel, gentian, Seville orange, cinnamon and others.

A milder example is the German Jägermeister brand, but in general this is what Wikipedia calls Kräuterlikör. A heavily flavored hard liquor (38% ABV=76% proof), historically believed to be healthy. Drunk as a straight shot, once, after dinner or breakfast.

@OrangeTang it is not a pale ale. Danish bitter is a spirit type alcohol, around 40 percent alcohol, which is why all the spices are needed.

I watched this in the cinema when it came out, and nearly died from laughter. I couldn’t breathe. Funniest thing I’ve ever seen.

Bitters is often being drank with breakfast- to keep the doctor away! Being danish I of course don’t find that strange at all :) personally I’ve never cared for bitters, they are strong and bitter !

In America, we'd call it a Pale Ale, probably. Though we don't use a lot of spices like that.

Everytime I see someone write Danish, I can only see it as "Dan"ish haha

Which is the origin of the word and country name. This particular "Dan" guy is long forgotten, although attempts have been made to claim there was a prehistoric king by that name. Though no evidence exist of such a man.

Aww yeeeeaaa, revenge of the Danish folk alright! This movie is hardcore though, so if you're easily offended, stay away! Hell seeing it once was more than enough for me It's fucking hilarious though, but im not sure how many jokes will go over foreigners heads. Probably a lot?

It's danish comedy as its very finest. A raunchy, highly vulgar, offensive and cringy (in the most hilarious way). It was indeed partially influenced by Curb Your Enthusiasm and brilliant mind Larry David but it is a thing of it's own. True the movie and more importantly brilliant also series relies on the cringy/awkward humor that Curb pioneered, but the Klown franchise as a whole is much more than a raunchy European version of Curb. Some of the humor might come of as offensive, immature or unconfutable to American audiences due to the cultural differences, but thats danish humor for ya'. - Sincerely a Dane.
