The Hunt (Danish: Jagten) is a 2012 Danish psychological drama film directed by Thomas Vinterberg and starring Mads Mikkelsen. It is set in a small Danish village around Christmas, and follows a man who becomes the target of mass hysteria after being wrongly accused of sexually abusing a child in his kindergarten class.
Lucas is a member of a close-knit rural Danish community. He misses his teenage son, Marcus, who mostly lives with his ex-wife, but he gets along well with the young children at the local kindergarten where he has worked since the school at which he taught closed. When Marcus says he wants to live with Lucas and Lucas starts to date Nadja, a co-worker, his fortunes seem to be looking up.

Great review of an awesome film. Mads Mikkelsen is an outstanding actor. Thomas Vinterberg likewise a great, sensitive director.

I loved this movie. Such good acting from all actors and carries a important message. I only wish Lucas had reacted more harshly and protested more against such serious allegations against him, especially since there was no solid evidence presented. Not showing enough rage when you are accused can make the accuser feel that they are right in their claims. If Lucas had acted out like he did in the church when confronted, he might have not fallen victim as easily. Also that his best friend said he could always see if Lucas was lying but he didn't see it when Lucas told him he was innocent.

It's interesting you say that because I felt the opposite. I think because of how hard he fought to see his son again he was worried about acting too strongly. I also think it just shows his personality. He's more of a to himself person. I think it took time for him to realize that having a strong reaction might be the only way he was proven innocent.

Hate the part when the mother refuses to believe that her daughter lies and worse tries to convince her she's too traumatized to actually recall it.

It's that inherent instinct to protect your child no matter what. That's what I love about the movie. Introduces so many complicated issues surrounding this situation and how people would react.
