The Pelagic is the most impressive Explorer Monohull Sailing Yacht build for the last 40 years or so! By the way the booking price per day of the Pelagic 77 is very reasonable compared to other boring high gloss cruisers this it is way less and delivering tons of extra experience and features!

I would love if I could find some performance data under sail. Dual keel for beaching. A little different layout in cabins, engine size and sail plan. Then this boat can be the best “couple” sailboat I’ve ever seen. A true live aboard and sail the planet boat. Dream boat 😊

Is this beachable? The rudders seem to go deeper than the keel? The Pangaea and the Tara are both beachable, so are all the Garcias. The Pangaea has the propellers protected by skegs and the keel at one end and by short and broad shallow water rudders at the other end. It then has the larger rudders at the stern, but those are also shallower than the Keel. Can this have vents for circulation in the tropics? Or would the vents make it liable to sinking if the vents were inadvertently left open in heavy weather?Would the vents impair thermal efficiency and impact insulation in polar regions? Can this be turned into a global go-anywhere luxury cruiser? Would the systems and subsequent plumbing and weight distribution for rig and rudder automation make the hull unstable because of uneven weight distribution or water- tight sealing?

Hello, to answer your questions: - No, this yacht was not designed to be beached. We have built other yachts that can. - She has a number of ventilation dorade boxes on the deck, is that what you mean with vents? - Yes, any yacht designed can be changed to the owner's wishes. This yacht was particularly designed and build for chartering in high latitudes. - We always make a weight distribution plan to ensure the yacht is not unstable. But pumbling, rig and rudder are on each yacht so I don't understand what you mean how these items would make the yacht unstable. - She has numerous watertight bulkheads and watertight doors.

@@KMYachtbuilders Thanks for your friendly reply: I meant additional ventilation for the tropics, like that on Dashew's Beowulf, which doesn't have air-conditioning, but instead relies on good air circulation for cooling the saloon and cabins. Air-conditioning, of course, is preferred but relies on diesel, hydrogen, or large battery banks. By plumbing, I meant new plumbing for hydraulic/electric sail/winch systems to completely automate the process and to also get the rudders on a fly-by-wire like system with an autopilot on a hand-held remote like the systems on the Dashews, Garcias and CNBs. I don't mind a bare deck for the polar regions, where survivability is paramount, but want creature comforts for the tropics. I want to have all the creature comforts possible without compromising on survivability/safety and autonomy. I want a truly go anywhere vessel. I would want a very thick polyurethane insulation in the hull, double- or triple-glazed windows, and air-tight/watertight vents to minimize the use of flammable materials for warmth. Polyurethane is tucked inside the hull, so not really a fire hazard. Batteries have very low efficiency, steam can have an infinite supply of seawater but requires very large boilers and still scales , whereas hydrogen again only needs seawater, but is very volatile, so what is the preferable backup option for autonomous propulsion during windless stretches? No alternatives to diesel, I suppose? I don't care about the environment, but do care about autonomy. A variable draft and beaching also enhance autonomy. Have you looked at the Beowulf and Pangaea. A Beowulf-like automation on a Pangaea-like vessel. 77 is the ideal size. The Beowulf also has a water-ballast to move the ballast fore and aft and laterally for following/heading seas and for heeling, but might not be suitable for icy polar regions. The Pangaea has a smaller set of rudders next to the propellers for shallow water and deeper foldable rudders further aft, closer to the stern.

@@assetstopurchase8432 Perhaps it is better that you send us an email with your wishlist, instead of discussing it here on KZfaq? You can email us at info@kmy.nl As you'll see on our website we have build many yachts for different purposes. Including being frozen in the ice, going to the Med, drying out and making world circumnavigations. We would be glad to help you with your dreamyacht.

@@KMYachtbuilders Great! Will do that! Please, don't bother to reply here. I know KM makes the best aluminum hulls in the world. Since Beowulf and Pangaea are not KM, you might want to look them up. Beowulf has the hull, ballast and sail plan designed to maximize speed. It has also been designed to automate functions and provide for ease of maintenance. Pangaea has been designed for autonomy and survivability---operation in heavy weather in Southern Ocean, in light ice, and even up rivers. Finally, none of these have tenders that can serve as life rafts in extreme weather in the event of sinking. Roll-over, self-righting composite or aluminum tenders as opposed to RIBs? I know even if yachts rollover and self-right, the objects and systems inside would wreak havoc, but a yacht with a water-tight deck-saloon that can neither float inverted, nor sink, should rollover and self-right, but even if we reduce the mast length by using multiple masts, the mast would still serve as a very deep centerboard keel to prevent righting, so we'd need help from compressed air or gas. Shackelton's account of survival was very interesting. There have been accounts of 130ft freak waves in the Southern Ocean, and that a well designed yacht can survive pitch-poling from a wave 60% of yacht length (if the CG is in the middle and the ballast and hull are designed, so that they oppose the lift as the wave progress from the extremities towards the CG). If the stern offers a greater resistance to beam waves because of its greater area, then the boat should turn to have the bow face the wave for survivability;of course the hull would have to be designed for the wave to flow over the boat and for the forces to be dissipated in different x,y and z component to minimize the impact along a particular axis). Till hydrogen matures, I would seriously look at a small steam turbine for propulsion. This is what the navy uses on its nuclear subs. It would needlessly add weight to have multiple forms of propulsion, but different forms can even share the same shaft and gearbox via a reliable coupling and decoupling mechanism. Thanks and TC.
