Please note that I get a lot of requests and questions about what equipment is ‘best’ for treating a variety of conditions. The following is not meant to be an exhaustive or definitive list. Please use it as a starting point. If you have questions, please discuss with your healthcare provider. With that said, I have tried a number of the products below, but not all. I have had osteoarthritis of both knees for 16 years now. My orthopaedic doctor at first recommended physiotherapy to reduce the swelling and inflammation. After that I was given a set of exercises to strengthen my leg muscles that support the knees, to do daily for the rest of my life. As they got easier, I added ankle weights. Now I have graduated to 1.5 kg on each ankle. I am now 76 years old, go a few times a year on mountain treks (using knee supports) and I am pain free. It was also important to keep my weight down. I follow a very low carbohydrate, vegetarian diet with eggs and dairy. I avoid fruit because of the carbohydrate content and vegetables that grow underground. I lost 10 kg and now I'm at an acceptable weight. This diet is now normal for me. Discipline is preferable to pain!

@@ax1066a-ghd2 Discipline - daily exercise; fix a time. Think of food as nutrition and not entertainment. Anything is better than surgery, which doesn’t come with guarantees. I know of two people who now have fused knees because of infections that developed years later.

@@ax1066a-ghd2 The Keto diet is the most effective to lose weight. You don't have to overdo the fats. Just keep the carbohydrates as low as you can go. It takes a few days for the body to adjust. You may get a mild headache, but when you see the weight dropping away, that in itself is motivating. You can exercise till the cows come home but you will not be able to maintain that level for long. So go very low Carb and see the effect.

I am 33 years old and work as a nurse. Two months ago I suddenly developed severe pain in both my knees. The doctor said I had osteoarthritis (grade 3 (moderate) in both knees, but I never noticed anything. I have resigned myself to the fact that I will soon be walking around with two knee replacements :(. The pain is very difficult to bear, even with painkillers. I'm still so young and just don't know what to do. I will soon no longer be able to do my job as it is very physically demanding. My doctor told me that knee prostheses don't last as long in young people (because young people are more active). My life is hell, I'm afraid of my future. Maybe one day a miracle will happen and the much hoped-for healing will come for us all. Sorry for my poor English.

I had to have a hip replacement at 27 due to a developmental disease which led to deformity and severe arthritis. I am now 57 and still climb mountains. Replacement joints are not the end of the world. I also have a degenerative me is cal condition in one knee that is doing well with diet and exercise for eight years. Initially I paid for a course of Apos therapy which really helped with the pain. You may require time off work to let your knees settle initially, but there is no need to despair. Best of luck.

I've just started with therapy for arthritis in my right knee. At first I was eager to undergo surgery... My doctor was saying he wants to hold off on surgery until I'm 60...I'm 47 years old now. Thus far I'm two days into my knee therapy...so far the muscles in the quadriceps and hips feel so much more stable....I'm convinced therapy is a go to for relief from arthritis. P.S. You remind me of my Orthopedic doctor who performed my total shoulder replacement surgery in June of 2023... Take that as a compliment, Your upbeat personality shines through like no tomorrow.. You are a great doctor in great spirits.

I just turned 51 and have had my first Baker's cyst 10 years ago. I first noticed them when I moved to a new home which had hard wood floors. Within a few weeks of moving in and walking on the hard wood I had my first bakers cyst. I didn't even know I had a lump on the back of my knee until my fiance noticed it. It was huge! At the time I wasn't sure what it was but looked online and self diagnosed the issue. It went on for several days / weeks and it would not go away. It was only in my left knee. I started to wear slippers with cushioning to see if it would help. And it did!!! I now wear slippers at all times when on hard wood floors. If I remove the slippers only for 10 minutes my knee pain will come back and I will have another cyst. The best thing you can do is wear shoes or slippers with as much cushioning as you can. If you don't notice any improvement try another pair. Do not use just rubber like crocks because it does not help. You need slippers that are like walking shows for support. I would imagine if you have hip pain this might help as well. Needless to say 10 years later so long as I keep wearing my slippers and use good shoes I have been able to keep them away. But I am not kidding, if I take them off, within 10 minutes of walking on hard wood floors I will have bad pain and a lump will start. Please pass this along to anyone who has baker's cysts!

I buy sorbothane insoles. Get the black ones as they are 100% sorbothane. They reduce shock by 90% and are made of a material originally made for NASA. They last about 10 years. Night and day difference in my knees! Even custom orthotics didn't do what sorbothane did for me. They cost around $30. I also eat cabbage, garlic daily for my knees and a serving of frozen cherries because cherries act like ibuprofen in the body to reduce inflammation. Overseas I used dried cherries. Taste is better in frozen.

Finally got so bad I was willing to get a prosthesis if they had to remove it. My other knee did all the work and now worn out and extremely painful will get replaced. I believe the first damaged knee spread arthritis to most other joints in my body. All osteo.

This video gave me good info that I can use right away. I was considering working up to the long distance walking that I used to do 'in the day', but you have confirmed that that is a good idea and not destructive the way I thought it might be. And some of the options that you mentioned at the end of your discussion also sound promising (ie the shots). I have a serious heart condition so I have to be careful and these two options make sense. I'm already on a keto - meat and greens type of diet and have gotten rid of about a hundred pounds as my 'covid project', but clearly I need to do more, and you have now given me some viable options. Dr. Peng thanks for the video - where do you stand on micro-fracturing surgery (stem cell growth from drilling holes in affected bone areas). I have been an athlete in the past and still try to take care of myself. However, I had two small areas of arthritis on my right knee and made the decision with my doctor to do micro-fracturing. Unbelievable how good my knee feels. I'm convinced it worked. Crutches for 9 weeks straight -need discipline. One of the requirements for success of this surgery is to not put any weight on the knee for at least two months even though it feels like you can. Just wanted to get your opinion. Thanks again.

13:28 Very exhaustive and detailed set of treatment. I am 82 weigh 69Kg My right knee pains only when I try to sit on a low stool or toilet seat. Also it hurts standing up from any sitting position. Walking 30 min does not hurt my knee. If it gets worse I will check PRP injections you mentioned work and have no side effects. Thank you Doctor Peng May Allah bless you.

I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.on my hip and the Dr wanted surgery. I told him I want physical therapy and I started to take a shot of Bragg's Raw Apple cider vinegar with a teaspoon of raw honey in 16 oz of warm water and it helps ‼️ I won't take pills or drugs... I rather do lemon, ginger root and turmeric before Rx

Just FYI Rheumatoid Arthritis is very different to Osteo-arthritis which is more physiological. What you are doing is great, I found Vegan diet with cider as explained by you works well.

I’m sorry to tell you “I don’t take medication” isn’t a viable strategy. This could be the death of you… supplements and diet aren’t covered by insurance companies for a reason, medications are much more effective

O.k.very good information.Going through a rough patch right now.I can attribute it to weight gain which came with a more sedentary life. When my weight was where it should be and I was hiking 1.5-2.5 miles in the woods everyday, things weren't bad.Had a cortisone shot last week with no relief.I take diclofenec twice a day, have Voltaren ready always.Thank you for this inspiration! Time to skip the doughnuts and ice cream and get moving again!
