Knife Edge Mixing Tutorial- Easy to follow steps to programing out coupling using a Spektrum Radio

This video discusses why programming out rudder coupling is important and the steps to doing this programing. Although I am using a Spektrum radio in this example, this practice is the same for a JR radio and a Futaba. Having this mixing programmed is an essential part to setting up an aerobatic remote controlled airplane.

I couldn’t understand what mix to add because they do act differently left to right vs right to left. Now I have a place to start and feel I can be successful with your techniques. You are the best! I find it very useful to mix the rudder to elevator first before I'm mix rudder to aileron. Using mixes and exponential makes flying a much better experience when I'm flying with the guys at the flying field.

Interesting. I’ve always tackled both at once. There is some good logic in doing one then the other. Expo is a must. That will be discussed in detail in an upcoming video.

You’re welcome and yes I’m Don. It’s an important part of set-up and it was on my to do list. I wanted to film an actual video setting a plane up but the weather has just not been cooperative at all. I do hope this helps.

Great video. Call me lazy, but for relaxed flying, I really enjoy mixing my Ailerons with my Rudder. Tomorrow I’m going to dial in this Knife Edge mixing. I can see all the benefits. THANKS for the information.

I'm way late to this but just in case you happen to see this... You don't have it on a switch but what about general flight? Example: blending rudder into turns to make flat turns maybe when going slow to avoid a tip stall.... ot seems like the mix would add positive or negative elevator? Or is it a negligible amount? Thank you in advance!

So yes it’s always on for all forms of flight. The amount of correction is small and when you’re only adding a small amount of rudder it only adds enough to correct. Think gyro before gyro.

doesn't this mix affect the hover then? when you never even turn it off.

No it has absolutely no negative effect in a hover.

@@Cosme422 So a few questions, what plane are you putting the 29x9 on? What is your elevation?

@@RC-Air I ended up calling Falcon and they explained to me the difference between regular and wide. Which is just a little wider for a bigger bite. I ended up ordering a 28 x 9.5 I hope it works out. I’m starting my assembly soon. Hope to have the build assembled by April or May of 2024. Then I should be able to try other props at least. I just started flying 4 months ago. I have a lot to learn. What is “Elevation”?
