No, there should never be any rules to music - ever! Interpretations are fine, but I find covers like this very refreshing becasue of their accuracy.

This indeed the best cover I've heard. You really got the guitar sound almost perfect. It is much closer to the original than the version from Doctor Mix. However, both you and Doctor mix forget one note in the mute guitar part: there are four notes in succession, not 3 (missing a major triad I think). You can hear them clearly in the official reconstructed version in the "Stu Phillips - Topic" channel, which you say you took for reference. Congratulations, really!

I read in a trivia bit once that the three major theme sections were recorded separately, but different artists, so that nobody outside the production itself would even know what the theme would sound like. The first time the musicians who recorded the pieces heard the full theme song was the same time everyone else did - when they saw the first episode on TV.

@@c0ldc0ne Does it? What kind of musician is unable to follow sheet music? Someone composed the entire piece, then split it by instrument, and sent the parts to each person. The music says what tempo to follow, precisely what to play, how long to wait between notes, and every single detail. When given a piece of music and being paid to play that music, a musician isn't going to improvise. Each plays the notes called for in the music, WHEN called for. That's their job, and doing their job is how they get more business and more payments, right? Once the three tracks are received, the production just has their sound engineer sync up the start points for each piece, and then layer them. The result is the original composition. This isn't dangerous at all...its routine these days for animation voiceovers. The voice actors aren't standing in a room together saying lines to each other. They're reading the script and leaving prescribed spaces of time for other characters to speak, then saying their next line - high budget productions might just have them say the lines one after another, and leave it to the sound engineer to cut them apart and intermix the other characters' lines Studio music recordings often have every instrument and vocal recorded separately, so in post production the audio levels can be changed so the drummer gets louder during a solo, then softer when the others join back, without the drummer changing anything, the sound engineer just moves a slider to bring up the gain, then takes it back down. As for where I heard it, I think it was on an alternate audio track on an older box set of the show on DVD. Its been a lot of years.

@@6squall9 Oh yes, on my CS1x it is possible to change the "P BEND RANGE" parameter from -24 to +24, to obtain this type of effect. Try to check if you too, on your keyboard/synth, have a setting that is called in a similar way ;)

I unfortunately was born after the show ended (by about 6 or 7 months), but I'm glad I got to watch the reruns afterwards and as I got older. This will always be my favorite show from the 80s. All other incarnations of Knight Rider that came along after (KR2000, Team Knight Rider, and the 2008 version) don't come close to the original.

@@logicplague Yeah...especially that last reboot with the mustang K.I.T.T. car. (Although to be fair, it's not as bad as the first reboot called "Team Knight Rider". Does anybody remember that one?) The 2008 reboot would've been the best aside from the original if only they didn't have the car transforming into a pickup truck & most notoriously having K.A.R.R. "transform" into a giant robot like a knockoff transformers! (All that, plus they should've used the Chevolet Camaro instead of the damn Mustang car. At least there's one model of a Camaro car that I know of that already had a "mail slot" under the hood built in where the scanner could've been put in!)
