I've just gotta say... you're an excellent teacher. I love how you teach versions for drummers of all skill levels,and I definitely picked up some things watching this video. I've actually been playing skill level 3 and the variation you taught, but I'll be working on the actual beat now :).

@Dan1loBr Yes, Dom does use a little open hi-hat technique occasionally but the majority of the time he is playing it closed. You notice him using the open hi-hat more when performing live. Quite frankly, this technique is so subtle that it won't affect the groove whether you decide to include it or not. Thanks for your interest!

I think the ones he means are ghost notes on the 'ee' after the 1 and 3 in the main beat, not sure if they're in the original track but he definitely does it live, nice video btw :)

Hey Alexander, Drummers like Dom improvise their parts live depending on what they're feeling at the time. I'm not sure of the part you're talking about but it wouldn't surprise me if Dom changed the ghost note pattern live. Ghost notes are a very flexible part of most grooves. @VioletCowelicious Ah yes, well spotted! Sorry about that, the on screen notation is in fact wrong. I have updated the downloadable free notation though so that you can see what it's supposed to look like. Weirdly though, I still play it correctly in the video, it's just the on screen notation and explanation that's wrong. Apologies again!

I think there are some difficult Ghost notes on "and two" and "and four" in the Main Beat on the Snaredrum. You can see it in the Live Version ;) But I'm not sure.

p.s.: I always thought the actual drum beat was done with the hi-hat semi-opening on each part... Can't explain it easily, it's like the little hi-hat fills at Sultans of Swing xD

Don't you hear a bass drum also played at 2 and 4 and the same time that the snare? Thats what I hear in the original version...which makes it harder to maintain the groove tight. Take a look! watch?v=YDBuxOVg4Ko

well, drums can be played in different styles,for example, a left handed drummer can play right hander or vice versa, he was probably just playing with it
