Riddle me this. Vaults 31, 32, and 33 are located near Venice Beach, in Los Angeles. Which is called the Boneyard in Fallout. The Children of the Cathedral,Supermutant Nightkin, and The Master are located in the Boneyard on the coast. How did three Vaults escape the attention of the Master, his spy network, and his Supermutant Army?

There's a big difference between "unlimited" power source and "inexhaustible" power source. Nuclear reactors may be "virtually inexhaustible" but they do have they limits. There's only so much energy they can produce per hour. The inexhaustiveness manifest is that you can take advantage of this energy for hours and hours and days and weeks and months and years... just a semantic nitpick.

6:20 Makes perfect sense because you forgot about an important detail: Vault-tec bought off/stole all research regarding cold fusion from Ms. Williams pre-war, so they were the final *official* owners before the bombs fell. After the bombs fell, the Enclave probably stole/managed to find the tech, managed to bring it back up to snuff again, but it was still a piece of Vault-tec technology, so they couldn't unlock is full energetic potential.

The big part that I'm trying to figure out is. How are they defining the NCR because originally the NCR spanned all of Southern California and bits of Northern California. That's why they were expanding into Arizona and Nevada through the Mojave. Because they needed more land they had so many people and they needed the Hoover Dam to power their growing infrastructure. It was less dangerous for them due to finding actual working technology and being able to produce things once again. It's why they had a standing Army and why they had uniforms. They had the ability to actually produce new weapons, new armor, new clothing... Before FO4 the Fusion Core was able to power a city block for 200 years without a single dip in power generation.

I personally think the whole "communist" line of criticism misses the mark. Muldova (or whatever her name was) wasn't fighting an ideological battle for the communists, she was fighting an ideological battle against the mega-corperations that had virtually replaced the legitimate government. At best this is a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" situation with the Reds, and in our real world she'd be what the Soviets referred to as a "useful idiot". But on that point, the Fallout vibe strongly evokes the McCarthy era Red Scare period of the real world cold war. People were accusing anyone they didn't like of being communists all the time. The "racist" or "transphobe" moral panic lunicy we see today is a reflection of those times, and we see the same patterns play out now as we do we do in the show (although somewhat less extremely than the satire of FO thankfully). So yeah, shes right when she says that communists are what they call non-crazy people, although that isn't quite the same as saying communists are the sane ones.

Honestly, I have mixed feelings on the show. Lucy was just about perfect for a vault dweller. The vaults themselves were very much in line with something Vault tec would do. I detest what they did with the NCR. It had a population of 700,000 people at last official count and stretched from the bottom 2/3rds of California all the way to Nevada. Losing one city, even the Capital, would not have caused the complete collapse that is shown in the show. By the time the show takes place you would have had an entire society much more similar to before the big war with electricity, sewer lines, and a pretty good stockpile of clean drinking water. The Enclave having the Cold Fusion device actually would make sense if they had stuck with the original story. Vault Tec , or at least the major big wigs, were part of the Enclave. The Enclaves plan going back to the second game was to literally leave earth to die off and colonize another planet entirely. Buying up cold fusion tech to horde for themselves makes sense. What doesn't is why the scientist decided to steal it and give it to one of the groups of people directly responsible for wiping out the Enclave in California. Going back to Vault Tec serving the Enclave I really disliked the scene where it showed the meeting between the major companies, especially how they showed Robert House as part of it. Vault Tec didn't have that kind of power. The enclave itself had determined the war was unavoidable. Considering the heart of the Enclave was the US government all the way up to the president their fatalism ensured the bombs would fall even if they had to push the button first. Vault tec did not have the kind of power that the show portrays. Vault tec was in it because they knew the war was coming anyway and their upper management wanted to save their own skins. Ghouls are shown in a really weird way. They can't make up their minds if ghouls are nigh on immortal or pathetically easy to kill. Ghouls were also common enough to have their own entire city within the NCR. There was no anti feral medication and regeneration in the way they portray in the show happens when ghouls were around a potent radioactive source, the kind that would microwave a normal person. The Brotherhood was not too far off from base but Maximus needs to get a fair bit more competent before he becomes a good character. He just isn't competent enough for this setting. Overall I liked the show but dislike what it means for the future of the franchise. I had already suspected Bethesda was going this direction from what they did with Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 but I still think they should have just left the West Coast alone.

Agree on NCR. If i remember it right Enclave had to abandon whole "settling another planet" idea due to technological difficulties and instead deciding to "purify" wasteland of anyone "unclean". Like what they wanted to do with Project Purity in F3. Basically killing anyone irradiated. Vault-Tec were a huge corporation and their relationship with government could be compared to what we have today. Both sides have own goals and are closely cooperating at expense of wider population. While VAult-Tec did some research into nuclear fusion, i dont remember them having outright nuclear weapon capabilities. And i doubt government would allow them to have it. Ghouls are suppsoed to have very long lifespan, 1000+ years and very high damage resistance, but they are hardly unkillable. Imo BoS was completely off from what they were in good Fallout games. Maximus gave me Finn vibes.

While I think you have some fair points, I feel people are holding a little too tightly with the lore. When stories move from different medias, changes are just often part of the process. I don't think that is a bad thing everytime. This show had to be it's own thing but also respect the lore, which i think it did. The change for Vault Tec makes sense to me in the show because it make the Vaults more relevent to the main story.

It has become a standard procedure to seek out known franchises (so they don't need to develop something new) and use them as a template, throw crap writing and cool effects/cgi at it, and boom, profits. Just think about all the disasters we've been getting. Rings of Power, Last of Us, Halo, Star Wars (Disney era)... I totally stopped watching live action stuff, I only watch animes now, or anime movies. Not perfect, but no wokeness and better content (better quality too), the story and character writing isn't atrocious. Another big difference is that you laugh because it's good, not because it's ridiculously bad.

This is absolutely NOT about making profit. If it were about profit, they'd make the shows objectively better. They're not. just FYI, the character you're supposed to focus on is Lucy.... she's the most direct reference to "the player" within *[this huge construct that is the Fallout universe]* Maximus and The Ghoul are just "exposed NPCs" "exposed" as in "you get to know about them", as opposed to actual NPCs that get no development at all (always speaking as within the construct) it's a tricky resource to pull out, as this would be one of the few times it's been tried, not counting other attempts such as Last Of Us, where pretty much every side character gets to be developed by cutscenes IN the actual game, since the game itself was designed and influenced by the cinematic medium, and plays like a movie. the original Fallout, wasn't.... the original Fallout was inspired by tabletop RPGS and written novels. *concepts*

The raiders plot made sense to me. Moldaver knows about the cold fusion technology because she's the scientist who developed it. She knows that Vault Tec management have access codes to unlock it because she'd been investigating them since before the war. She knows that Hank is in vault 33 as well as what's in vault 31 because Hanks wife found out, ran away and the two of them met. All of this was laid out in the show. Personally, I liked the show. There is more to evaluating a show than just pointing out every plot hole or irrational decision characters make. The art direction, soundtrack, camera work, sets and props, costume design, were all pretty high quality. If I sat and carefully thought about every little thing, I could probably come up with a list of things to nitpick as well. But the storytelling and acting both were competent enough to not pull me out of the aesthetic experience of Fallout. This is a visual medium. If all you're going to focus on is the story, you might as well be reviewing books.

@KoshoShinogi, the irony here is that arcane itself retcons and changes hundreds of things, including completely altering the ages of certain characters from the lore. So to complain about making changes in this show when praising arcane is quite hypocritical. Admittedly, however, a lot of what arcane changes is just straight up better and so they recently announced a change to make arcane cannon rather than an alt universe.

I think people are willing to forgive the idiocy of writing problems and the US concentric writing conventions that force some plot and editing problems. Mostly because the series is short. And just like Westworld Season 2, these editing/writing problems will derail story and characters will have to magic their way in/out of situations. These problems are likely due to SAG-AFTRA forcing new writers who might not have the capability to think about the repercussions of not planning out a central plot for each character and each faction. This is a long-long story with a ton of unmovable dates, unmovable characters, and unmovable factions. Westworld also has such a complex layout, because the reveal requires time to lay out the Season Arc in small steps, small bites of a larger conundrum. WW Seasons 2 and 3 fail on this, largely because the convolutions become a bit too artificial and contrived. The actions start to unravel, people travel magicallly to arrive at events or decide to leave/enter/walk around to the most convenient time/location. And, to get the action scenes, people have to be in a narrow set of events and make odd decisions. So, inevitably, with this much depth of story and certain beats having to open and close doors to areas, characters and revelations ... there has to be a planned out series of reveals and fleshed out events along the way, which makes storyboarding and action/effects planning cheaper. It has gaps and plot problems because the mystery / story is edited by accident. And, the plot requires hard-set moments, and hard-coded events in the lore, mainly to avoid walking into problems with future events and future episodes. e.g. the NCR. The Enclave. The Brotherhood. Vault-Tec. New Vegas. Space Stations. Ghoul factions. The Boneyards. The 2077 war and who knows about the conspiracy / aftermath, since few people were alive in the setting, and most records are counter-intuitive... is a long-running lore problem, because the purpose of the vaults is not set out, nor are the vault records collected by any third/fourth/fifth party that could use the results. It's supposed the Enclave is in charge, but ... there's a definite madness in planning for nuclear winter, with trillions of dollars of vaults designed and built in anticipation of disaster(s). The FO story also leaves open the rest of the world's population and where they could be, because the global population is an open problem for 'another day'. Along with the Cthulu / Space Aliens subplots that keep popping up along with Ghouls appearing before 2077 and idiosyncratic easter eggs, sic.

@@laigron7884 I think they put a conspiracy spin on the nuking of the US because they want to unveil a deeper subplot mystery if they introduce the synths and the Enclave storyline. Notice, it's not america, it's vault-tec. The reason they say is profit ... but that's obtuse. Preparing for war is profitable. Nuclear War isn't. It probably only works if they can limit damages, or recover the land. Which they might have anticipated, i.e FEV/GECK technology. Probably the introduction of the Old Gods / Mystery and the Synths, i.e. people/robots/androids who are studying the FEV and radiation interaction without being corrupted. Which would be another vault somewhere, possibly a sub-vault or management vault. I don't even know if they want to launch the GECK or explain it, but if they were expanding the Enclave / xeno angle, then the GECK is the giant undo button if a vault is used to launch a wider attack on the area. Which makes the season self-contained. Obviously, you can't have China launch nukes in current year, but the idea that they don't even sugar-coat the vault-tec nuked the US reveal is obtuse. And, because the Amazon version has a lot of story problems, and we don't get a normal retelling of linear events, nor does New Vegas make much sense, nor does the NCR. I don't know what the ambition was supposed to be. More than likely, they might even try a synth switchup 'clone lucy' storyline, where the episode takes place with the audience seeing the synth version of Lucy being the hero, while the 'real' Lucy turns up at the end. It then becomes ambiguous who is saved or not. Mostly for the westworld easter eggs of cloning important people. There is the far harbour/Dunwich monster in fo4, being a cthulu/yog type subplot, along with the mothership aliens Zetans / Flatland aliens in 76. The wacky conspiracy aspects are usually that Vault-Tec has alien tech, hence how they engineered the Ghouls. The other wacky theory is that the nukes were prolific due to a need to prevent invasion forces of either old gods, or the aliens. or both.

My main question at the end was why was Cooper still looking for his family 200+ years later? Also, his family consisted of a little girl and his evil ex-wife. The only way they'd be alive is if they were either ghouls or in cryosleep. I guess it's possible Barb and/or Janey would have been frozen, but it seems someone as important as Barb would have needed to manage the vaults as much as she could after the bombs fell, so would have lived her remaining years underground and be long dead in 2096.

Well, we don't know Barb's condition or story between the meeting and the bombs. So she could show up out of a cryo pod. But the daughter was in the blast that we are led to believe got Cooper. So either she is dead or also a ghoul. And if she was a ghoul, then she would be with Cooper unless she was stolen at some point? Or maybe she ran away....either way, the only way she comes back is as a ghoul. And somehow I doubt they will let a female POC be a ghoul. It would take away from their agency or some bullshit.

So, that's a year, max. And the brother confirmed one of the corpses was at least 2 years dead. EDIT: Been told that it was Harper being traded into 33 to Bert from 31. I thought it was Harper that was transferred from 31 to 33 and then Bert to 33 from 32 to Harper. Confused due to the Harpers profile on the Prime stating that she is a native of 33. Even from a non Fallout Lore / Fan perspective. I think anything deeper than a surface level analysis of Aesthetics and ''muh pot twists'' reveal a story that is, like Bethesda's usual work. Actually terrible, and only focussed on delivering set pieces. In retrospective, knowing what we know of Maldover, her group being NCR remains, her helping Vault 4, implying they would all know Vault Tec is torturing people. The attack on 33 makes no sense. It is contrary to her character and wholly unjustified. There is litteraly no reason they could not have simply kidnapped Hank with little to no violence. The Vault 4 Plot would not happened were people normal people and actually explained why there is mutants that the two new comers are clearly awkward about. There is actively no reason to hide floor 12, given they are only trying to help people who suffered from experimentation. Even then, if Maximus just found a stimpak in the hospital, the story would not have changed much at all. The city lighting up at the end is completely stupid. You telling me the electric grid was connected to an observatory? And that it was all intact from the nuclear bombs and 200 years of radiation, acid rains and rust?. It's again Bethesda showing they care about superficial scenes and not the build up. They care about the destination and not the road there. This show is just like Fallout 3 and 4. Most people play it and don't give it much thought. It's only a couple of years later, when dedicated fan go through with a deeper analysis, deconstructing the story, the plot points, the gameplay, etc. That we end up seeing how terrible and messy it is. agree, and those examples you used arent even close to half of such unrealistic things.. and AGREE theres a lot of "8 year old humor" that only made me CRINGE.. Like when the Titus fought the giant rat.. and turned to look at camera mid fight, the dialogue "ohhh sheeet" was so CHILDISH.. like from a kids show. In Philly the intro od Maximus to fly down and fight ghoul CRINGE and pretty sure that few seconds was the reason they made the suit able to fly. Not only do people walk on hot desert with no shoes, or a mangled foot, but nothing ROTS in this show... and EVERYONE is pretty much aterminator could walk the desert for a week unless convenient to the plot... theres a LOT of convenience... agree, was ONLY the first couple of episodes they followed footprints in sand, after that was just a bunch od coincidences they found all the same locations or ran into each other, making the world feel very small as a result. COME ON.. the WHOLE THING STARTS when EVERYONES pip boy magically stopped sensing radiation as a bunch of strangers not only came into thier vault, but sat next to them eating and basically for a few hours no ones pip boy ever sensed radiation.. till it wwas CONVENIENT. and she says "you're a raider" ...ummm you all beeen cut off from the world for 220 years, but know what a raider is??? uhuh.. the show is FULL of sloppy writing, and PURE CHILDISH CRINGE...that AMAZES ME adults found anything in this show funny.,. and dont call out how cringe a lot of things are.. it wasnt just n the cave with Titus, there are a few occasions during combat where people turn to gesture at the camera and suxh. HOW did Ghoul waste so many bulets on Maximus when they first met.. then took out a BUNCH of them with 1 hit due to NOW remembering it has a "fault" in the armor?? you know,, from the bad WELD (on a suit with no welds) Could go on and on and on... theres MANY examples..

It's not terrible the problem is Bethesda being little envy gremlins and painting all over the west coast lore because they don't want it to exist because they cannot top it. If the show is canon than fallout 1 and 2 are irrelevant and New Vegas isn't even canon anymore, The NCR are just a raider gang, house is a mustache twirlingly evil monopoly man, the legion obviously wasn't ever a threat or they'd be steamrolling the collapsed NCR right now etc, it seems to be the show is more about purging the series canon of anything not Bethesda than it is about making a fallout show and that disappoints me and also bodes badly for future games going forward imo.

New Vegas is still canon, we dont know when the bomb dropped only that Shady Sands Fall happened in 77 which led to a bomb being dropped. The show takes place 15 years after NV, best case the place gets nuked along with Long 15. So the ages of the main characters seem early 20s, take away 14 years that is 1 year after NV, Long 15 was blown up and the NCR nearly destroyed The MCs are around 8 years old when Shady Sands get nuked. Timeline matches up to make NV canon and even the blowing up the NCR also canon

What's wrong with a weak, wishy-washy character who attempts murder? These are fictional characters, not real life people. Most good stories don't have people firmly separated into good guy/bad guy camps or virtuous/flawed camps. Flawed and even villainous characters can be some of the most entertaining. The whole setting of the franchise evokes a world where people struggle to survive and often compromise or even abandon their morals to do so.

I also didn't like it as someone who had played Fallout 1, 2, Tactics, 3 and NV. I don't know. For me, NV showed that things was progressing. The NCR has become a proper nation with working trains and supply trucks. Anecdotes from NCR citizens coming from California to gamble in Nevada would say how life back in the founding states is good and things was improving. The NCR congress enacting laws to protect Frontier Farms to even giving Free Food and Medicine to Freeside regardless of who you are. There's improvement and things is shifting to a better future. The show just justifies the Enclave's mindset and reasoning. There's no civilization in the Wastes. It must be wiped slate clean with the FEV as the people in the Wasteland will never develop or improve. They'll just kill each other over and over again. EDIT: I also have no idea why the Big Corporations thought nuking the world would improve there profits when there fiat currency would be gone and useless and since when has Shady Sands becone so close to Boneyard? Heck, why didn't the Five Founding states go ham into sending reinforcements to Boneyard? The Boneyard houses the NCRs treasury, it houses there printing press for money, and the first ever Post War University.

There is a multitude of reasons for why it could be the best solution to nuke the planet given the resource scarcity that is plaguing the world according to the lore, if it was them however we dont actually see them set the first bomb off. Secondly, didn't NV make it pretty clear that the NCR was stretched out way too thin and it was facing serious issues on its own? Been a while since I played it but if memory recalls then they really needed to win that dam battle because of the multiple issues they were facing, some of which sounded sort of existential.
@pilotmanpaul
@pilotmanpaul 2 ай бұрын
@@ashamahee But its made pretty clear Vault Tech or atleast them and other Corporations started the nuclear war by nudging it that way. The NCR was very powerful in New Vegas. The reason why there stretched thin is because they've become far to hungry for new land. Nevada is also the FARTHEST they've reached. Its the Frontier of the NCR. So its natural they'd be stretched thin. They also wanted Hoover Dam as it provided ELECTRICITY and WATER. Nothing existential. It was just something extremely great to have and the fact that it borders Arizona makes it an outright Strategically Important both for Civilian and Military applications.

I thought the show was solid. Looking at the show and understanding the fallout lore, I believe the show did a much better job than most. However, that does not mean the show did not have major plot issues. The resolution of New Vegas being ambiguous was a major mistake. The nuking of shady sands off scene was a mistake. Making vault Tec seem like the ultimate bad guys degraded the understanding or the faith of the lore relationship between vault tec and the federal gov ( the enclave ). If the shadow people, who kinda looked like executive office of vault tec, were members of the enclave I think a lot of gripes with the show should be re evaluated.

It was consumable content, but this certainly wasn’t “9/10”-tier content. At best, Fallout is a solid 6-7/10, but pretending that it’s anywhere close to the same realm of writing competence as actual “9/10” shows (I.e. Arcane, Breaking Bad, Season 1 GoT, Invincible…etc) is such a bad-faith take, and it’s so difficult to read anything else you have to say when you lump a show like this into the same category of “success” as other objectively FAR-better shows. You have to establish some type of standard if you’re going to claim it’s a “9/10”. Compared to what exactly?

The way I understood the lore, after reading all the computers and docs in the games as well as having watched a video a couple years back, it seems that the war that was going on was coming to an end and Vault Tec, having spent billions on the vaults and the experiments, saw that people began seeing no reason to buy a spot in them so their "window of opportunity" was closing so Vault Tec themselves decided to launch the nukes so they could carry out their plans. That is roughly what I got out of the in-game lore I am probably wrong if so I apologize I am merely stating what I got out of it all from the games sans having missed some stuff.

warning, extensive "um actually' incoming maximus is meant to be weak, he's asked in the beginning if he's weak and he said "i don't want to be". and maximus is apart of the brotherhood of steel, ofc he's gonna be morally corrupted. and in fallout murder for self preservation is a necessity for survival, especially when his life was also being threatened, and not every character has to be smart or navigate a situation you see fit, people don't do that in real life. y'all also mention how the "raiders"(gunners*) had no reason to know about the cold fusion, but its shown that muldaver is from the past and was developing cold fusion prior to the bombs dropping, so it makes sense that someone within the enclave with empathy continued her efforts and worked with her to finish it, because she clearly has access to resources most didn't like her own cryo pod. the password was a vault tech password to unlock the terminal, it wasn't a code specifically for cold fusion, cold fusion didn't exist yet, it was only theoretical pre war, her company hadn't yet gotten it working. in fallout 1, you find vault tech nukes, and in fallout 3 the nuke in megaton is a vault tech nuke, so them having a plan to drop the bombs isn't off base and it doesn't mean they actually did it. i will agree though, the cold fusion cell looked out of place in the fallout universe being so small and modernly futuristic, they di do the ghouls amorality very poorly, and the communist crazy line is really corny, and i'm relatively socialist. y'all are really bugged by an IMPLIED lesbian relationship with one of the characters only getting ONE scene? don't be so sensitive, and that's not amazon adding anything, fallout has had lgbtq+ characters since the first game, bethesda's fallout games are actually the only ones that determine the sexuality of companions based on the player character's gender, in 1, 2, and new vegas there are gay and lesbian companions that can only be romanced by being their preferred gender, and the creator tim cain is gay (and also agrees with the portrayal of vault tech). mr handies were a worker bot, there are mr handies that work in hospitals, on trains, as security, and mr handies have buzzsaws, there's cutscenes of them cutting bushes with them. fallout is notoriously mocking capitalist propaganda, it's painfully overt, watch tim cain discuss his intentions with the companies in fallout. and vault tech is an arms and defenses dealer, they only profit when there's war, y'all could not be more mistaken here. the brotherhood of steel wasn't meant to be portrayed as pure fascist, but rather on of the writers said they wanted them to feel like a misguided fraternity. also, no not all vaults have functioning G.E.C.K. kits, unless they retconned fallout 2's lore and i forgot. this show was made for true fans, and it doesn't contradict any major lore, tim cain himself said he liked that ghouls had to take radaway to not go feral, and that it was a good idea. the creator of fallout likes the show, and most fans are in love with it. sadly while there are valid critiques, almost every single one in this video falls flat. i will say tho, it's refreshing to hear someone dislike this show without making it overtly political and cry over gender and race.... until the "anti human" rant that feels very incel-ish, i don't think the sex scene was a critique of sexualizing women as much as just a flipping of that dynamic. but the gore porn was too much, and i think its a part of the fallout humor that doesn't translate well to film. "if you want to be edgy have a man save a woman" maximus saves lucy in almost every scene they have together, she'd be completely lost without the enclave defect, and the ghoul saves her in the final scene, when she rescues them approximately once each.

from what i understood, malderva basically "invented" cold fusion. vault tec then bought every company she was even remotely connected to and patented and made it their own. henry /hank mclean wasn't just any secretary, he was the assistant of barb, she was basically one of the head honchos as we saw. they probably wouldn't have hired him to be her assistant with the shit they are into if he wasn't qualified enough to their standards. i don't think the enclave knows how to create and use cold fusion. i think that one scientist created an ingredient needed for it. but vault tec has the actual tech you need to use to use the ingredient to create cold fusion. without that computer tech you probably can not create cold fusion in this universe and that thing the scientist created is probably useless without the vault tech tech. but it is a main ingredient which is why everyone wants it, after that it's a matter of getting your hands on a vault tech code and access to one of their cold fusion machines i think.

Gotta disagree with this take. Usually youre very on point, and the shkw has issues, but the three big issues that you had can be explained through game context. 1. Vault tech and the government were like 🤝🏽. Them having shared pre war tech and access isnt an issue at all. Thats how the Enclave located many Vaults in Fallout 2. They always knew where they were. As for Moldaver knowing, shes prewar. These Vaults Locations were already public knowledge and considering what she already knew about Vault Techs plan Pre War its not shocking she knew how itd extend into the post war. Furthermore, Henry was Bud's Buds. Bud being one of the heads wouldve been able to give his adjunctants much more authroity than expected, so Hank having the code makes sense. Lastly, I dont think Moldaver ever comes off as a good guy. Sympathetic, but not good. The Ghoul is supposed to be the correct one. He understands that everyone sucks so you have to be an ass too to survive. 2. Vault tech plan is kind of dumb, but that extends fo the entirety of the fallout franchise. The concept of the Vaults and Vault tech were never supposed to make sense as Vault Tech was always a moree ominous presence in the original and 3d games. In fact their plan is nearly 1 for 1 with the Enclaves plan in Fallout 2, which is to genocide all non Enclave survivors on the American mainland for the mere fact they arent Enclave. 3. The conflict in Vault 32 was likely a civil conflict. People committed suicide because their neighbors and friends were murdering each other in a weird Vault Loyalist vs Rebels. This happens in multiple different vaults throughout the games and is something that can be assumed given other examples throughout the series. I think the gratuitous violence of ot all was just to grab the audiences attention. It should just be percieved as a revolt and civil conflict about leaving the vault and focusing on the visual of it seems reductive. Lastly, for the clean up its simple. Robots. They likely had a Mr.Handy or Protectron staff that would be deployed given Authorization from vault 31 staff like the Overseers. As for the Brain in the Jar, its a staple for fallout. Its not supposed to make sense. Its a gag that ended up being lore so here we are. You just kinda gotta roll with it. P.S: As for the injections, I assume its a psychedelic that allows fpr the ghoul to better retain their sanity. Its always been cannon that what makes a ghoul feral is a lack of self identity after years and years. So the wasteland producing a drug to help them with that, just like a modern anti depressant or an imaginary demensia aid drug makes sense. In conclusion, I've found that many of your takeaways come from a casual fan perspective. While not wrong, they're missing key backgroudn information, interior and exterior lore points, that make the show make sense. I would agree if you were to say that a good show would've filled the gaps. However, most media tries to avoid exposition dumps, which explains why they wouldn't. Your critiques all make sense given the show was in isolation and not a part of a larger franchise. Outside of that context your review and critiques are excellent. I enjoyed listening and I hope you'll return to the games and then rewatch the show. I think youll find that the nkst significant plot hole in the show you dont address and is the thing that took me from rating it a 7 out of 10 to a 4 or 5 myself. The date that shady sands is destroyed.

They want to become the world's next autocrats. They want to eliminate anyone who they deem to be a threat to their perfect society by simply wiping the slate clean and surviving below. It's not money they're concerned about but legacy and world domination. As for House being a part of this, in this framework it makes perfect sense. He calls himself an autocrat. And even if he doesn't personally go along with the plan, him being ok with it still makes sense. He wished to be the sole ruler of the Mojave solely because he believed he was the only one capable or competent. Same with Vault Tech. They wish to control the world because they believe that allowing for any other faction besides themselves will lead to conflict. The character isn't destroyed in the least. The only way that can happen is if things change more drastically in Season 2 as we see Hank headed for New Vegas.

The plot points include a lot of alterations/deviations/retcons from the original source material, yet is supposed to be canon to that original source material. It's more akin to a Starship Troopers, where the one making this adaptation likely harbors resentment, if not outright contempt, for the source material, and is using this version as a means of taking out their frustration against it. The difference is, Starship Troopers was so good that the lunatic leftist couldn't corrupt it enough to make it bad. Fallout was already corrupted by Bethesda's mediocre-to-incompetent handling of the IP since Fallout 3.

I overall agree with your premise, but there are definitely some false criticisms here: 12:34 Well Fallout isn't realistic in the slightest, even before Bethesda came on the scene. I wouldn't say that the cold fusion thing was that egregious. 12:54 No, not at all. Firstly, whilst nuclear fusion does exist in Fallout, it isn't that common, most things run on fission. Secondly, cold fusion is obviously superior to regular fusion since cold fusion can produce energy at room temperature, normal fusion can't. Also, fission is shown to be very irradiating throughout Fallout and radiation in general is shown to be pretty bad. To have relatively clean unlimited energy is a pretty important thing. 14:55 It was established in Fallout 1 that the Vaults had the locations of at least some other Vaults in their vicinity. Going off this principle, it makes sense for Lucy to know of Vault 4 since it isn't that far away from where her Vault is. 38:10 Mr. House didn't seem to be fully on board with it tbh. The problem was him being in the meeting whatsoever. Also, Sinclair looked wrong and shouldn't have been representing the Big MT. 39:52 That is never stated or implied. Cooper Howard calls her a communist, and while she doesn't outright reject the label, the only thing she does is criticise the oligarchy forming in the US and is pessimistic about the state of the Union. Remember that the US still had the Red Scare culture and they just threw around communist as a buzzword, just as the left throws around fascist as a buzzword nowadays. Even Cooper Howard is called a 'pinko' in the opening scene despite him very clearly being a capitalist and loathing communism. Furthermore, the NCR is explicitly a capitalist organisation and isn't nearly as left wing as Fallout fans frame it to be. The thing is that a lot of leftist Fallout fans support the NCR over the Legion and Mr. House (because the Legion is sexist and Mr. House is an autocrat who likes libertarianism), but the NCR itself is explicitly not left wing. For starters, it is clearly imperialist, and not under the guise of liberation/globalism which is what leftists use, but instead using the 'civilising mission'/'manifest destiny' rhetoric of Anglo-American history. Secondly, the NCR isn't woke at all. yes, they encourage women to serve, but that is clearly in a more 'starship troopers' way than it is about female empowerment - the NCR just wants more bodies to throw at the meat grinder. Lastly, they are pretty obviously oligarchical in their own right, with brahmin barons and water merchants holding a lot of sway in government. If Moldaver is an NCR patriot, then there is no way that she can be a communist.

Cold fusion is bad because it trivialises rebuilding civilisation into getting the magic free energy McGuffin, plus unlimited energy is almost as bad as time travel for narratives. I think one of shads biggest problems that i have started noticing is that he needs to be told everything. I feel that shad does need to understand that shows that are supposed to have multiple seasons isn't going to have everything there to explain everything. There is a large gap between the ending 2077 scene and the opening 2077 scene so we don't know what actually accord between the scenes. 25:00 As for the vault that went mental we still don't know all the details and I'm fine with that. Not everything has to be spoon fed to the audience. As far as the show tells us it's very safe to assume the Vault found out about the cryo pods and that their overseer and others being part of Vault tech. Then we see the corpses of the Vault members, some have killed themselves, others bodies are positioned killing each other and a whole load of them are dead trying to break through the door into the cryo vault. From this it's pretty evident that whatever they found out made them either mad enough to start killing the cryo people or that the cryo people deemed the knowledge too dangerous and tried to kill everyone else. What's interesting though is the positions of the bodies, they all seem to be locked in a moment in time plus the overseers face is really messed up. My current theory is that a fail-safe was activated that released some poison or whatever and killed everyone in the Vault. I assume what they found out will be expanded upon in season 2.

@graveyardshift6691

The whole thing with 'Communism' is that the progs think that the events that lead up to Fallout is a take on 'why capitalism is bad because a bunch of corrupt businessmen started a nuclear war for profit or something'. It's them trying to coopt a beloved IP. The story of Fallout is that people use War to justify change, fuck everything up, and average people have to pick up the pieces and rebuild. "War. War never changes." -Fallout Slogan. Pre-bomb Fallout is an alternate 1950s-60s during the Cold War where nuclear energy wasn't made into the boogyman it is today which is why there are so few nuclear power plants. Vault-Tec constructed the Vaults with the Cold War looming on the horizon as a kind of 'safeguard' and marketed it as such. Sure there may have been some scheme to drop the bombs themselves to justify the costs and investments but they'd already made their money with people buying up in a 'better safe then sorry' mentality. Pretty much everything is powered by nuclear power which is why there's a lot of advanced tech. The Chinese were the ones to actually pull the trigger after the failed invasion of Alaska when the US Army used the iconic Brotherhood of Steel Power Armor to turn the tide. Said power armor was later gathered up by the BoS. Bombs dropped, people got locked in the Vaults, and spent years down there isolated from the surface. While the Chinese were the ones to pull the trigger, it was the Enclave that provoked them into it. Vault-Tec had little involvement with that but they were no saints ether. Some of the vaults really were human experiments rather than safe havens.
