Hi, Jana! Fun sock pattern - thanks for sharing its existence with us! I was unaware of it...! I thought your explanation/demonstration of the lifted increase was perfection, especially the right lifted increase (which can be especially tricky for beginner knitters!). I’ve been knitting socks for about 2 1/2 years now, and I wish I had found you sooner! You’re very generous to be offering your time, talent, and knowledge of sock knitting with others in the community like this! Take care, and stay healthy!

Hi Jana! I know this has been up for awhile, I hope you still read comments from older videos. I love your teaching style! I've been knitting about 4 years now, first started with washcloths when I traveled for work as a productive way to pass time in airports and on planes. (I found I could not practice my hobby of quilting on planes lol) Now I've retired and am completely engaged with knitting - and even picked up quilting again. Knitting is bringing so much joy to my life and is very engaging for my brain as well. I hope to attend a knitting retreat this year! I'll check your website out for any offerings you may have in that area. I hope to be blessed to meet you in person eventually!

I'm knitting these as my New Year's Day 2023 socks. I just wish I could get my abling to look as clean as yours. I have switched to Norwegian style knitting which has been an improvement but the stitches still look uneven to me. I intend to persevere though and finish them good or not so good. Thank you so much for the videos and indepth instructions.

Hi Jana I love your videos and tutorials. I am a newbie knitter and have started on the circular magic loop to make socks. I have a question. I keep ending up with an extra stitch on the end or my row (actually its not really a stitch more like a strand from the end of the back row) that keeps ending up on the needle. What am I doing wrong? You really are a great teacher I have already learned allot from you watching and listening ...over and over and over....:) *Love! the furry ones on the farm. Thank you for all you do.

Morning and Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!! I have already messed up...measured ball of foot..9 inches x 9 came to 81 (with 5% neg ease) came up with 76 so off I went and knitted my beautiful cuff and now I watch video 2 and have 4 extra stitches than you do😕 which totally throws the pattern off! Can I save it or do I need to redo with different cast on stitch count?
@PurlTogether
@PurlTogether 3 жыл бұрын
Well it depends if you want to knit the same pattern that I'm doing here, or not? You could decrease, or increase just after the cuff, to have a multiple of 8. You could also choose a different pattern that has a multiple of 4, if you want to keep the 76 sts.

I must have forgotten how to count. I have 64 stitches, and the chart shows the pattern as 8 stitches. But when I work the pattern, I get 9 sts. p1 (1), k1 (2), M1R (3,4), k2 (5,6), ssk (7), k1 (8), p1 (9). Where am I going wrong? I love your videos, not only are they super helpful, they make me happy! 🥰 So I’m going to go join your patreon thing.
@PurlTogether
@PurlTogether 4 жыл бұрын
Assuming the numbers you have in parenthesis are the number of stitches, I count 8 p1(1st stitch), k1(2nd stitch), M1R (3rd stitch) k2 (4th and 5th stitch), ssk (6th stitch) k1 (7th stitch), p1 (8th stitch) So it appears that you're counting two stitches the increase, when you're only increasing one stitch. Hope that helps!

@@PurlTogether Jenna I am having the same problem...my stitches keep increasing! I am doing something wrong...I have watched over and over and frogged over and over and still the same...is there anything that is an obvious mistake made with pattern. I should only come up with 8 st each repeat...there is an increase (M1R/L) and an decrease (SSK/K2tog) for each repeat...right?? Thank you for being so helpful!

hi Jana- I am going to do the Snake River pattern but would like to use 2 colours. Ideally I would have one colour for the cuff, heel, bottom of the foot and the toe and use the second colour for the “cabling “. Would this work, as I think I would have to carry the first colour around while knitting the cable? Will this make the cable too puffy?
@PurlTogether

I think I would knit a circular swatch and test it out first.

Jana, I have only knit too up socks. I have just finished a pair ...I cast on 68 stitches ... trouble is I like your pattern that you are doing. But! That doesn't work with the 68 stitches. Do I have to cast on the same 72 count? Or can I do less? I am math challenged... unfortunately.
@PurlTogether
@PurlTogether 4 жыл бұрын
If you want to use the chart for the Snake River socks, then you have a couple of choices. The easiest thing to do is cast on 72 and knit with me, since the chart is an 8 stitch repeat. Or, if you really want to stick with 68, you'll have to use 8 chart repeats, and add in an extra 4 sts somewhere, possibly on opposite sides, like maybe 2 extra purl stitches between halves of the sock maybe? Does that make sense?

What yarn weight and needle size do you recommend?
@PurlTogether
@PurlTogether 4 жыл бұрын
You'll want fingering weight sock yarn that contains 20-15% nylon for durability. The size needles that you choose will depend upon your swatching results. Watch Step 1 for more info about swatching. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q8unrLl2nNjPdZc.html

Asking for help. I want to make sure my numbers are solid. Ball of foot 9.5. Ankle 9.5 swatch 9. So if my numbers are correct my cuff should be 81 using a size 2 needle. Is this correct? Thank you for your time and help
@PurlTogether
@PurlTogether Жыл бұрын
If you're knitting at 9 stitches per inch and the ball of your foot & ankle is 9.5" then you'd multiply those to numbers and get 85.5 If you want to have snug socks, use 10% negative ease, so you'd have 85.5 x .9 = 76.95. So, I'd cast on 76, or whatever number works best for the stitch pattern you may have chosen. Does that make sense?

I really want to make socks. This tutorial is almost perfect for someone like me. However I wish you made it even more beginner friendly by continuing the step by step. Unfortunately you said you will continue the pattern on your own off camera. As a beginner I will have no idea what to do next. I understand it’s a repeated pattern but im not there yet to not mess that up or recognize the full pattern. Please make a nice long video showing each step along instead of il see you later when im done. 🥲 as a beginner that doesn’t work for ppl like me and so many tutorials that I come across do exactly that a “see you when im done”

I understand what you're saying. As a video creator, it's really hard to balance that kind of request with making a ridiculously long video that a lot of people won't watch. A good option for you and other beginners though, might be to join the Purl Together Facebook and/or Ravelry groups and post photos of your work along with your questions. We are all certainly willing to help you and answer any specific questions you may have. The links for the groups are in the video description. - Jana
