Knitting a Braided Edge

How to knit a braided edge, also known as a herringbone or chevron. Can be used as an edging, a decorative cuff or brim, or can be inserted in the body of the work as a separator or a hat band.
Assumes knowledge of the two color long tail cast on.

Thanks so much for this! I actually bought your Fishbone hat pattern last night to make for my husband. I picked out a bunch of patterns on Ravelry for him to choose from but he didn't even have to think about it once he saw yours. Came to KZfaq this morning to see if I could get a better understanding of the herringbone and there was your video! Perfect. You should put a link on the Ravelry pattern page and maybe in the pattern, too!

that is my most favorite pattern ever. i do have links to my videos on my designer page, and i do add them in now to all my newest patterns, but need to find the time to go back and insert them into my other patterns! glad the video is of help

On the double braid on a hat do you stitch a row of main color knit stitches before you stitch the second row of braid? I love learning this design. It adds alot to the edge of a hat. Thanks.

sorry, i somehow missed this 8 months ago!! but here is the answer anyway. I usually do one or 2 rounds of knit in MC between stacked braids so they don't lump up on each other.
