Thank you so much :) you are a great teacher. You have taught me a lot about knitting. Just a side note for the viewers: If you click that little "settings sprocket" on the bottom right in your videos you can select a slower speed to watch back the videos here on KZfaq, its helped me a lot in other tutorial videos where I needed to see something in a slower motion. Happy Knitting All!

What a marvelous teaching video. This was my 3rd learning experience with mattress stitch; however, this one really took! Thank you so much! Was able to join two circular infinity cowl ends-one slightly larger than the other because my tension had changed. Was so worried about what would happen. Just followed your “two bar” guide for both sides, and guess what? Perfect join! The larger one married the smaller one and you could not tell at all. Was so excited to see and each time, doing the “pull,” vvv satisfying, as you said it would be. Your slow motion teaching is perfect for me, and this was my first experience with it. Will be back for more. Thank you!

Thank you so much! My first seam was a bit funky, but I’m afraid to rip it out. It’s white dk and hard to see the difference between the sewing and the stitches. In the future I think I’ll try using a needle one size up for the bind off with dk and maybe worsted so it’s easier to see the ladders. I’m 68 and my eyesight isn’t what it used to be. Edit to add: Definitely subbing!

I love your tutorials and Pinks Knits is where I always go first to learn. In watching the slo mo tutorial for mattress stitch, I was hoping to learn why even when my 2 pieces are the same, the ends always work out to be one side longer than the other. I notice in the w blue pieces you were sewing, it looked as if yours were going to be like that. Can u explain why this happens and how I can prevent it from happening. Thank you. Linella
@verypinkknits

The pieces I'm seaming in this video will match up perfectly. Keep in mind that you're starting with one side, then you'll even it up by stitching into the other side. You'll always be one stitch "ahead" until you even it up on the other side.

If you watch the kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b7J7rMSAsZfIaXU.html video just use the video playback "settings" to watch it at a 'slow mo' speed. Her voice will be distorted but if you are a visual learner you will get a better idea on what she is doing in the video with the slower speed. I change mine all the time when I am learning something new in knitting. XGL! Happy Knitting!

Thank you for this great video. I am knitting with super bulky yarn and need to seam the front panels to the back panel on my cardigan. Is it better to use the mattress stitch or the overcast whip stitch for the horizontal seam?

Always use mattress stitch to seam, unless the pattern instructs otherwise.

That's really easy to follow when it's in slow motion, I'm having trouble finding a slow motion video for using the mattress stitch on ribbed stitching for a hat that is knitted flat, is it the same? Mine look awful.

Right - the technique is the same, regardless of the stitch in the fabric, like ribbing. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rbeedMmF0q-UmXU.html

How do I seam the rib stitch? I'm doing a hat with 2 x 2 ribbing. I can see the laddets with the knit stitch side, but I am having trouble finding ladders on the side with the purl stitch.
@verypinkknits
@verypinkknits 4 жыл бұрын
The same stitches (ladders) are there...just be sure you're picking up the same amount from the knit side and the purl side, and you'll get a good seam.

If you're using a wool yarn, you can just weave in the end. If you're using a more slippery yarn, you can use this technique: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oJqZgtqky5rXnYU.html
