Do you ever get annoyed with the cable of your circular knitting needles? Are your circulars flopping and coiling to the point where you get annoyed? There's a simple trick! Use a pot of boiling water and hold your needles over it for a short time to relax the plastic and coax them into a more workable shape.

Thanks for this video. I have my grandmothers circular needles and was ready to give up on them because the plastic was so stiff. Thanks again!

You may find that you have to go back and do it every once in a while. I would try it gradually too until you find the "sweet spot" for your needles.

Does this make the cable sticky? I found that sometimes circular needle cables get sticky over time.

I've used a hairdryer to get the same effect.

Wow that’s a something new because I’ve seen people put it in the hot water. Do you think I can do this for my Clover knitting needle too?

Glad you found it helpful! I tested it with a pair of needles that wasn't my favorite first just to gauge how long to hold it for.

Have you tried this technique with it? You might need to hold it over the heat for a bit longer. I might have one of these types of needles that I can test it out with.

Can u do this for wood needles?

You should be able to do this with any needle really. You are primarily exposing the cable connecting the needles to the steam or the water. I wouldn't recommend submerging the wooden part just in case they absorb water or lose their coating.

This is great, but do you have to do it each time you use? will the cord tends again?

I would say that depends on how you store your needles. If you coil them up to store, you might have to repeat this process before you knit again. If you hang them or store them in another way you might be able to get away without doing it again :)

Turning the gas flame off would be a good idea!

You could totally do that for safety. I wanted to keep a consistent temp while trying this to remove a variable.

That cable is almost straight before you started.

it was because i was holding it, it was curling in on itself. If you don't believe that it works why not try it for yourself?

You can also achieve this by holding it over your toaster 🙂

We can't all be perfect :) also, I'm dyslexic so spelling is a thing. At least that means you watched to the end.
