You misunderstood the whole movie because you didn't understand that she accidentally switched the medicine when the board was knocked off the table. She injected him the wrong dosage of the bottle labeled "morphine", so she can't "just tell the truth", she literally thinks she killed him.

Don't be so hard on yourself: this film was being deliberately obscure by feeding us Marta as the accidental killer. You're the first reactor I've seen who was immediately dead certain for so long that someone sabotaged Marta to kill Harlan. Well done 👏
@AgeofJP
@AgeofJP Жыл бұрын
I understand his frustration though because I pretty much made the same conclusions (it had to have been someone else because of the missing antidote) but the movie also gave the information to figure out who done it and I didn't catch that...when Blanc told Marta that someone went out his way to get up there in the night of the party it should have been clear that it wasn't only Marta making this effort and the only one who left the party was Ransom. But for much of the movie I instead thought that Harlan was the one who switched the vials and took the antidote to make his death a murder mystery himself and go out on his own terms with a bang, but then the thing with the will happened and that theory was gone but that happened after Blanc and Marta went through the crime scene. And that's what makes this a great murder mystery, when you don't figure it out even though you had the possibility to do so...haven't seen a reactor who did figure it out yet

I’m so curious what made you think the meds were switched the first time you watched it? Because you ended up being correct for the wrong reasons lol. I’ve never met anyone who thought that, and that was a great twist that she actually gave him the right meds cause she’s a good nurse!
@DelGuy03
@DelGuy03 Жыл бұрын
Yes, you kept saying that "somebody switched the meds," when there was no indication that that was so (even if, in a surprise twist at the end, that turned out to be the case) -- she could read the labels and see that she had given Harlan the wrong dose.
@Linator4

This may just be my ADHD & autism speaking but I first watched this yesterday & didn’t find it all that surprising. I automatically assumed the liquids were switched because as the above comment mentioned, there’s usually a big reveal in these types of film and the vial to reverse the effects not being in the med kit felt like a dead giveaway for me. I just didn’t expect her to subconsciously give him the correct doses & get that beautiful “good nurse” moment.

The sequel, Glass Onion, is great too. It's an entirely different kind of movie from this one, but Daniel Craig playing as Benoit Blanc is the staple to these films. He's so quirky and intelligent, and very funny. I can't wait for the third one.

Don’t be too hard on yourself for not catching onto certain things. When I first watched this I didn’t even consider the possibility that someone had tampered with the vials. It’s a genius twist to have a mystery film seemingly solve the mystery like halfway through and then make you think the rest of the film’s about Marta trying to get away with fooling Blanc. But you caught onto that shit instantly.
@redviper6805

I remembered what Harlan said about Ransom, “He plays life like it’s a game without consequences until you can no longer tell the difference between a stage prop and a real knife.” Brilliant foreshadowing! when Marta threw up on Ransom that was actually baby food mixed with water. Knowing that makes it easier to watch. The movie was an homage to Agatha Christie novels. Have you read Agatha Christie? Her works broke the rules of the mystery genre; she became known as The Queen of Crime. Her novels go from 1920-1970s. Actress who played Marta gave a phenomenal performance! Glad they cut away to her reaction to the suicide; the look of horror on her face was outstanding! Like Blanc said, Harlan’s demise was the result of “a tragedy of errors.” When he pointed out how Marta could visually spot the differences between the morphine and the correct medication, he said it so quickly. Needed subtitles for that. He said there was “the slightest and almost imperceptible differences of tincture and viscosity between the two liquids.” You’ll enjoy Glass Onion as well.

This was an old-style movie -- they used to make a lot more movies like this, so in some ways, this was kind of a throw-back to a different time. If you liked this, you may want to try the original "Murder on the Orient Express" (not the remake), the 1972 version of "Sleuth", "Strangers on a Train", "The Third Man", "The Last of Sheila", "Frenzy", and "Dial 'M' for Murder". There are actually many others to check out, but these are the first ones to come to mind. (I SO love 1972's Sleuth, but unfortunately, it's very hard to find)

Not sure where you know him from, but Harlan's actor is Christopher Plumber, classically trained Shakespearean actor. The main role that my geeky ass knows him from is Star Trek 6, but he had a massive long-spanning career going back to the 1950s, and an equally amazing stage career largely in London. Had roles in Malcom X, 12 Monkeys, A Beautiful Mind, National Treasure, Syriana, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and a deep metric shitton of TV guest star spots, voice work, and probably a bunch of commercial spots that I can't even imagine. So yeah, you've probably seen him before :P

I think you’d enjoy Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile. They’re similar to Knives Out in that they’re both murder mysteries with genius detectives. There are some issues with them in terms of plot holes and such, but I think they’re both very intriguing and entertaining with really good acting

One of 2019's best. Hands down. So well crafted. Great ensemble cast. Good storytelling. Christopher Plummer as Harlan the author. This was his final film role. He passed away in 2020. After this one, Daniel Craig (Blanc) & Ana de Armas (Marta) worked together on Craig's last Bond film, No Time to Die (2021). The sequel, Glass Onion will defintely be worth your while.

The sequel Glass Onion is a great also, a bit different... but still a murder mystery. Just please give us a long reaction. Also, another great murder mystery/comedy is the 1985 film Clue (with a really great, original, twist ending for a movie of any kind). Now, for general murder mysteries there are the recent Poirot Cinematic Universe movies based on the series of novels by Agatha Christie starting with Murder On The Orient Express, then Death On The Nile.

I figured out fairly early on that it was Ransom, not from anything in the story but because he was too helpful to Marta. In real life, that can happen. In a murder mystery movie, always be suspicious of people who are really helpful when you need it, especially when they're jerks otherwise. I had no idea about all the rest of it, though. All the HOWs and the WHENs and the WHYs. I just had an idea of the WHO. Please do react to Glass Onion. It's similar in some ways and different in others, but it's really fun.

Exactly. It's his MONEY. He may leave it to whomever he so chooses. And the behavior they chose to display immediately after his death - particularly at the reading of the will - is one of the reasons as to WHY he chose to cut them out, and shows just how wise that choice was. Like Benoit said, "Knives out, beaks bloody."

I started to suspect Ransom when he started helping Marta. It seemed really late in the film to give her a sidekick/love interest and it didn’t make sense that he would be so cavalier about losing his inheritance unless he knew he was going to get it back.

yeah you did better than most, including me. To be fair though, the movie gives such a concentrated dump of information at one go that it intentionally makes you dizzy. If I was to watch this again (for the first time), I'd do it alone, and I would take heavy notes about the dialogue, the interactions, the timeline. And I'd go back and watch again (that is everything before LeBlanc gives the explanation) and put together my theory before having him 'solve' it for me. There is a great game called Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective which allows you to do just this, It doesn't give you the answer while you are playing it. Instead, it lets you go to different scenes, interview different people, and in general play detective. You don't get the 'full story' you pick and chose the places you go and when you stop. And when you do, you then proceed to guess your answer based on questions you ask and see how you did. The answer page then shows you how you did and gives you the solution in detail as well as how Sherlock Holmes worked it out. Absolutely fascinating game, and if they come out with any more movies like this and Glass Onion I'll be sure to watch it this way.

The interesting thing with this reaction is that somehow you figured out the vials were switched and the shot stolen too early in the movie. So you're perspective was through the lens that Marta is 100% innocent. Everyone else (myself included) did not know that and we went 95% of the movie thinking she accidently killed him. So it wasn't that you didn't piece it together. It was that you did, and impressively early too
@rocketdave719
@rocketdave719 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say he figured anything out. It's more like he accidentally arrived at a partially correct assumption based on a lack of comprehension as to what was going on. There's no good reason for the audience to think that the medication getting mixed around was anything but a mistake, so for him to automatically assume otherwise is a little weird.

@@rocketdave719 Some people assume he’s already seen some of these movies before the reactions but tbf I first watched this film yesterday. I was also certain the meds were switched from the get-go, especially considering the one to reverse the effects was missing. It’s a whodunnit mystery which always ends in some big reveal/twist. If it was 100% an accident, that may have been anticlimactic. I’m actually shocked most people didn’t see that coming. The one thing I didn’t expect is her subconsciously giving Harlan the correct meds & getting that emotional “good nurse” moment.
