Had similar problems with my X5. Seized up in my driveway. Went to pick a part and grabbed a motor for about $400. Slapped it in and 60k miles later it's running strong. I've towed things cross country with it and it seems to run BETTER after working it like that. BTW those front differentials are junk. They just blow up unannounced. No parts available for them and the used diffs themselves are hard to find. I just disconnected the axles and front drive shaft and been running it as a 2wd for over a year. Def a love/hate relationship with these BMW V8s

The 2010 and 2011 S63B044 are actually the most robust 4.4L BMW ever made. They just need 5000 mile oil interval and upgrade to Index 12 Piezoelectric injectors and they could reach 300k

Unfortunately I'm on my second engine 1st place ripped me off engine seized 60 days after install SMH im currently taking them to court. Pure Performance Seems to be 1 of the best in the game for the S63TU engine so I have heard & seen So I'm beyond excited. Did you do a completely stock spec rebuild? how long did your rebuild take? Im located in NJ & plan on shipping the vehicle out this week. Ive spoken to TJ and he recommended I go with forged connecting rods & the upgraded bearing As I plan on Adding a bit more HP out of her.

I'm familiar with that 'diesel smell'. It's the smell of burnt oil. Had a Ford shed the centre main bearing cap for some reason while I was driving @ high speed. Heard clank but the everything seemed OK for a while. About 5 mins. Later I i heard a clatter and simultaneously smelt diesel. Limped home and upon disassembly found the bearing cap lying in the bottom and a rod with burnt oil crusted on it. The stench was quite something.

Well Nathan my engine as h may or may not remember is a n52. I put it up on jack stands to work through the issues bc quite frankly I got to much money and not to mention time in this car so I parked it before I fouled up something that couldn’t be fixed. Anyways when I did my oil pan gasket I noticed pieces of black stuff honestly looked like pieces of a gasket could that have been metal? I cleaned the pan with gas and they seemed to melt. I wish I had followed my first mind and done those bearings then. It just seems a bit complicated to me as to how to get the proper clearance. Also I was unaware this was yet another maintenance item til after I replaced the gasket. Thanks n keep up the great work

I drove in my buddy's Tesla yesterday and was blown away. No need to worry about engine problems or maintenance. Thing is deadly fast! But the amount of features it had in it, not to mention the self driving, was mind blowing. I think the only drawback is if you get in a wreck...there are no parts or very long wait, and you can only take it to Apple, ahem, I mean Tesla. But I was sold and drive a BMW and Mercedes. All you gotta do is brakes on this thing. No monster engine in it like this.

it looks like they've never changed the oil . If you want a reliable turbo bmw change the oil every 6000 miles. these turbo engines work at very high temp, thus makes oil goes bad very soon. Never turn off the car immediately after agressive driving because the turbos goes bad in that way. You have to let them cool down for about 2 minutes before turn off the engine.the Same goes for a cold start. When the engine is cold you have to wait at least 30 seconds before the trip, and never go over 2500 rpm until it gets warm.

I thought I was going and have a nice 7 series in the end, but no, I bought a 2012 BMW 750Xi maybe an Alpine. It was a Copart purchase with mechanical issues, It starts and runs but has a bad knock. Thus far, timing chain test came back ok, but engine has one cylinder with low compression and I roughly measured piston travel through spark plug hole. I measure 6 out of the 8, couldn’t get #4 or #8. The cylinder with low compression also came up short on piston travel by about .3 inches. Assuming rod bearing .150” complete loss of the rod bearing would account for the lost travel. Will be pulling the engine, but am scared of what I will find?

Rod bearings in my 2012 X5M spun last year with only 49,500 miles. Meticulously maintained it & drove like a gentleman most of the time. Didn't matter. The bearing clearance from the factory is too tight. The BMW dealership wanted $36,000 to put a new engine in. Had it rebuilt with a new crank, King bearings, & ARP bolts, by the guys at Miami Engines for a fraction of that cost. Bearing in cylinder 2 looked like a pancake. Runs great now...fingers crossed.

Anyone that argues that BMW’s of the past 15 years is a great car is full of shit. The cars of the easy 2000’s and before we’re decent cars. I know, I currently have two such BMW’s and have owned them the past 20 years. Their straight 6 engines have been great apart from some poorly designed components. But you’re having to spend thousand to have you motor repaired - makes my point. I get it that a Toyota is not a BMW, but at 50k miles a Toyota is just finishing up being broken in. It takes a real investment to get a BMW to 200k miles. It takes oil changes to get a Toyota to the same mileage.

@@paperandmedals8316 bmw, since the e36 has been innovating everything. Variable valve timing, direct injection…plenty of things. They engineer the components to work together and sometimes then berg to revise. Stuff is fixed under warranty, then they get it right on the next model. Go by a b58 platform and tell me it’s not a reliable car. Honda and Toyota are reliable because they don’t innovate with their power train. They figured out what worked and kept refining that same thing. BMW kept making the best thing they could, over and over. Now that the world is moving towards electric cars, BMW stopped innovating the internal combustion engine and now it’s perfectly reliable. Got it kiddo?

If you maintain them they can last. I don’t care what anyone says. And learn proper driving habits. I bought mine with 80k miles. It’s turning 104k and runs like a clock. Turbos original and all. No wastegate issues or anything like that. I have the n63 though. 2013 m performance package with 458hp and 500lb/ft torque. Minor issues if you do preventative maintenance but it’s manageable at that point. I have the coolant plate leaking in my engine block ever so slightly but that’s it. I had the upper oil pan gasket leak at 88k other than that it’s a prestine car. It just make me upset to see these beautiful cars get beat to hell and left to die a tortured death like this X6M. Why man? I did many main+rod failures and they always run like a charm. Swap the engine with a V8 from Toyota, at least it'll be reliable, haha.

@@NathansBMWWorkshop dude! Can you tell me the odds for what could be knocking in my engine.. but i have NO meral redisue in my oil, filter or anywhere.. When i heard the knock, i obviously didnt give a fuck and drove about 1.5h to my work and back. The knocking has the same level.. its not beating any harder then when it started. Its the same sound when engine is stone cold (thick oil) and i even tried to disconnect one and one coil. Same sound. Im not so sure i have rodknocking. Sounds like its comming from the head. Same sound as when yiu have a broken lifter on a older e30 engine..
