There is a lot misunderstanding about the treatment of Knotweed. Many fear it! Personally, I see as it an opportunity when looking for property deals.

To tackle a huge patch, (make a few trails first on the inside and also blaze a trail around the perimeter), start inside the clump and spray all the stems first, then start at the back and work your way out spraying the undersides of the leaves. Next, go around the perimeter of the patch, carefully spraying all the leaves around the outer edge. Lastly, open your nozzle to full stream and spray over the top of the patch from all sides. Take heart, next year the knotweed will be stunted and easier to spray. 1)The ultimate date for spraying Knotweed is on or around September 15, after the bees are done pollinating. 2) Use 2 ounces Glyphosate and one ounce of a sticker per gallon. 3) Tighten your nozzle to just more than a mist (depending on distance away from the plant) and cover every inch of each plant, first the stem, then leaves and undersides of leaves too if at all possible. 4) The silver bullet to eradicating knotweed is this... when you are done thoroughly spraying... wait for the herbicide to be totally absorbed/dry and spray it all over again one more time! (2nd spray could be done the next day.) After only having 10 percent eradication of the knotweed clumps I treated year after year (for 10 years)... I finally used the double spray in one day technique and found 90% eradication the following season.

If there is knotweed on the neighboring property, it’ll soon be on your property. You have to get it all.

you should apply the glyphosate only in the fall, when the sap stream reverses, so that it's taken into the rhizomes

Spraying Should only take place after the plant has flowerd because the sap returns to the rhizome taking the poison with it the professionals use tordon

So what was the final outcome? I'm in the "control" phase. I really don't know if the crowns are in hibernation or really killed, but it's late spring and i only see small stems. I'm year 3 into my treatment.

The shoots will have emerged by now, I would expect some small ones to appear. Treat them again.

fantastic video thank you really helpful however I do have a question I have purchased a Roundup proVantag 480g also I am planning to inject it into the Japanese knotweed with the needle my question is how to mix it? would it work better if I use less water? obviously, it is going to be stronger or does it have to be mixed a certain way?
@mikewoodspropertychannel3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for you comments. The mix is 200ml/5 Ltrs. So I’d stick to that. From what I understand the recommended mix ‘works’ so using more 480 is wasting it. Good luck

I need to attempt mines this year. Should I cut back and spray. Or initially just spray them?
@mikewoodspropertychannel3 жыл бұрын
Spray the leaves top and underside. Monitor for 2 weeks. You should see them wilting. Cut back once you see them dying. But better to leave and repeat spray as new shoots show

Can I cut it to a certain height, burn the stems then spray the rest of it instead ?
@mikewoodspropertychannel3 жыл бұрын
Spraying the leaves- top and bottom. You can cut and then pour into the stems.

I have tons of Japanese knotweed on my property, any product with glyphosate seems to be the only chemical that kills them off with good visible results. I make sure to spray every week and now even the amount of new growth is little to none. Glyphosate has helped reclaim so much of my property back

Well I'd wait for a few years to declare victory ;-) most sources I checked, rhyzomes can just go dormant for several seasons. You;d have to be really lucky to get rid of this much one single year. Anyway, keep it up :-) I mean down..

I’d agree it takes time. I’ll do a update video to show the latest.
