Great video. It’s great to see a coherent, straightforward explanation that won’t harm the home. Before watching, I thought of putting a plumber’s snake up the downspout so it was great to hear that as one of your suggestions!

Good video 👍 I tried to send a hose up from the bottom with a small jet nozzle on the end, but it couldn’t get by the first 45 degree elbow. Next I will try a 3/8” OD x 1/4” ID section of plastic tubing inserted in the end of the hose. The idea is the tubing will get by the elbows but be stiff enough to push towards the clog to free it up.

I have use a doubled up piece of thick electrical wire. Folded the length in half. Then twist the wire to make it ridgid. Seemed to work fine. Home depot sell a fitting for hose the comes out like a pressure washer. That work s also .

Can I run a snake up the vertical downspout to unclog any possible debris? My eavesdrop gutters have screens all along, however, when it rains heavy above my front and back doors water is cascading beyond the gutters. The screens are difficult to remove. This has never happened previously. Last winter for the first time the horizontal aluminum (3 x 3 inch drain spout at the bottom was frozen solid which has not happened previously either. Over the winter, should I be removing the 60 inch horizontal drain spouts? I’ve never had to do that in the past.

You are welcome, Tony. I was fortunate, my Dad was a carpenter. He built our house and seemed to be able to build or fix anything. No You tube when I was growing up. Friends and relatives often visited on a Saturday morning to ask how to do repairs or build things. I helped with projects, watched and absorbed a lot growing up.

direct exit to lower point makes the foundations go down. if your house is brick, u will get cracks.

The pipe takes the water to the street, so no problems here. This brick house has been here since 1952 and no cracks.

Thx for the video, I am going to try using a hose or pvc pipe to clear the elbow, might even attach it to a drill, who knows how it will go

Where did you get the STIFF WIRE you used in this video to unclog the downspout? I can't seem to find one.

The stiff wire was a plumbers snake.

Here is a trick an old woman once told me and it worked. Pour a couple of gallons of thick sugar water down the gutter. In a week the ants will have dug tunnels to get the sugar and the water will flow. The more sugar the better. this method also works to get rid of yellow jackets except pour it at night. Ants can be helpful to home owners.
@Know-How-Now5 жыл бұрын
That is an interesting trick. Ants are incredibly industrious. Every year I brush sand between the cracks on a brick pad in front of my shed. The ants excavate the sand and remove it. By now they should have a rather large sand mound someplace. lol.
@markschirripa36074 жыл бұрын
So the ants help you, then they get flushed down the downspout?
@joe524283 жыл бұрын
@@markschirripa3607 They leave once the sugar is gone.

Lmfao.......Drain screen and a blower works just fine to clean out gutters. Don't buy into the expensive stuff.

Buy a leaf blower? cost: Junk $100, quality $250-$500. lol

All too often we get cement in our elbows here - it's a combination of moss growth, lichen falling off the trees, pine needles, and random leaves from other trees here in the Pacific Northwest..... and with twice a year maint. I talk to some neighbors who still have issues.🤙Light weight stuff tho if I knew it was that, no problem I will give this method a shot every time since its cost effective 👍 and less time on a ladder.
