So in order to keep it bareable for those reading this,I will avoid talking about the wines, except for this one mention: I was really happy for you when that 1863 bottle came up, someone like you totally deserves it. Great video. I've been to Porto many times. I think it's the most beautiful city on earth. I'm going back again this year hopefully. I really like Port and the table wines of Portugal. I recently started getting into sherry. Have you done a video in Jerez? I'd love to hear your thoughts on sherry.

I'm a CMS certified somm and I'm just coming here to verify that this guy knows his shit. He's probably at a higher level in the Court than I am and was just too modest to say it. If you're just finding this, as I am, stick around and listen - this is the best equivalent to professional-level training you can possibly get for practically free. Found this because I’ve just toured northern Portugal for 2 weeks with college friends. We loved Porto and the Douro Valley, Braga and all that northern region of vineyards, stopping at Quinta do Seixo of Sandeman and the Mateus & Sequeira Wine and Tapas tasting room right on the river.

Your footage is absolute topnotch, a businesscard for Portugal. I enjoyed this episode very much. I have visited Vila Nova di Gaia and (of course) Porto. I had a tour at Taylor's. Their LBV is one of my favourite daily ports, next to Graham's 10 years old tawny en Quinta da Romaneiro LBV. It's a pity port sells less good these days, so portmakers shifted for a part to red wines. They are usually very good and interesting. To be honest, I did not have any bad experiences with Portugese wines in the last five to ten years.

I only now found about your channel and I was so surprised with the quality of it. I can't understand how you don't have well above 100k subscribers. It's insane!! Also this episode really hit me in the feelings. as a young boy I used to go spend the holidays in the north of Portugal and always went through the douro valley and all my family is from that region. When you're in the river and look up to all those vineyards shooting up in the direction of the sky and think how was that possible to be made is something you'll never forget. And when older you get to try those wines and think about the place and people is even more special. Congrats on a great episode and a wonderful channel, hope it keeps growing so you can keep doing this and visit other beautiful places.

The Lodges were on the south side of the river because the taxes to be paid in Porto, on the North side of the Douro were extremely high. So they built the Lodges on the south side, where taxes were much lower.

I usually prefer Sherry over Port, but Port is amazing. I've tasted a 118 YO Tawny (barrel sample of vintage 1900) and 1964 white Port. This was simply out of this world.

A 1863 port wine is the Holy Grail. You can put a price to it. But the truth is that it is priceless. An experience like no other. A privilege. And, in a way, a reminder that we are here for a short time and somethings will outlast us and it it is a good thing to leave them for generations to come.

We have traveled to Portugal twice and spent some time in the Douro Valley, it is an off the chart experience. To see in person the steep vineyards is hard to imagine how much work is involved just to maintain and harvest, but to think about the labor to plant and terrace the “hills” is mind blowing. We found the food, the people and the wine an unforgettable experience and hope to go back again. Thanks Vince and your crew, it was a great episode.

I wish I had seen this before a college girlfriend and I knocked off a whole bottle of Portuguese Niepoort 20-year-old port which had been in my husband’s collection for over ten years at that time. He was away for work and we decided to just swig it while making dinner. 😂 I never confessed when he later wondered what happened to that bottle. 😅

I found your videos only recently after deciding that this year I would focus (outside of work) on improving my knowledge of wine. This is how I came across your videos. The production value and content are incredible, I would have sworn these were high viewer cable tv shows, but to find you do these on your own, I was astonished. Have told my friends to check out your content as well and hopefully they will all join your VIP club like I did. Please keep these coming.
