Why are we proud of 'not quitting' when a job, activity or dream is actively causing us harm? Sarah Weiler believes that quitting when it's right for us, before we have no choice, allows us to do better: not just for our happiness, but for our mental and physical health, our loved ones, and our employers too. Sarah has trained teachers in Austria and South America, researched Colombian traditional music, and now is a multi-entrepreneur. Through her own company, Power of Uke, she delivers corporate training as the FaSILLYtator - using music to bring more fun to an often serious world. She walked 815km across northern Spain on the Camino de Santiago in 2017. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. A coworker who had been with the company for 13 years quit without notice yesterday at the end of her shift. As much as I wanted to be a team player and "step up" to taking on more work until someone else can be hired, all I could feel was envy. I wanted her to sneak me out of the building and take me with her.

Lots of love from India. I just resigned 2 days back. Now I am feeling powerful. This energy I have never realized earlier. I quit with a plan. To serve people by giving knowledge of investing. Its so nobel work i will be doing, I am proud of that. I planned 4 years back to quit. I gained knowledge and experiance. Now I am free. This feeling is so intense.

I just want to say that I watched this video while thinking about quitting a poorly paid job where I got burnout. I was scared of not being able to pay my rent. But I made a plan and quit. Now, I'm happily working in a place where I've found love for public service (and earning double). My advice: Trust your gut and make a plan first; then, when you have a new job (even ifi it's just a transitional one), do it. Love yourself. No one must teat you poorly, not even yourself.

Brilliant! It's so true; one does need to stand still and listen to the answer. I went from being a crushed grape to wine when I did this in 2008 :-)

I think this is all I needed. I was too ashamed to quit. I thought if I hang on it'd work out somehow. But my body says no. It tells me to quit.

Good message. It's important to also understand if you can still be of service to others. Understand when you're being taken advantage of and when you're genuinely needed for a more positive outcome. It is important to ask "Does this still serve me?" but let's not forget to ponder whether we're giving up on something that could serve us later down the line. Weigh the chances and the pros / cons

Sometimes you have to vote with your feet. A lady in my neighborhood had the perfect life. Her home was beautiful. She had all the latest name brand things. A husband she adored. A son that would make any mother proud. On the surface. Her family found her hanging in the closet with a belt around her neck. We later found out her husband was having an affair. Her son was dabbling in drugs, and the beautiful house with all the pretty things were mortgaged to the hilt. She worked and worked to try to keep up appearances until it killed her.
