Thank you for posting this. You are a lifesaver. This is saved us probably $160 buying a new string trimmer.

You can't give people hope and then not step-by-step the solution. You need to make a follow-up video that at least removes the cover of the modified head you installed. You seem to have the same model I do, but Kobalt uses different approaches to the head assembly based on the model number. For instance the KST130x-06 actually had a replacement kit made by Shakespeare for a time (discontinued) but even though the trimmer looked like mine in every other way the head assembly was different so their kit wouldn't fit my trimmer KST 2540-06. So without you showing me what your trimmer looks like under the cover there's no way for me to know if your solution will work for me.

Followed your instructions. Replaced my old Kobalt string trimmer head with the Husquvarna T25. Thanks for the tip. Michael

My man....i was going crazy thinking I had to trash my trimmer because a plastic knob broke...this worked perfectly. Only additional thing you don't mention is to save and use original spring...t25 spring requires adapter....but it works perfectly again and Husqvarna actually sells replacement bump knobs...what a concept!

Thank you so much for making and sharing this video. My dad bought the same as Lowes told him he could buy pre-stringed replacement spools that stopped carrying in stock after he bought it. I bought the T-25 bump knobs to replace his worn one buy had to grind and sand the diameter down to fit the Kobalt housing right. After that experience I ordered the T-25 housing so replacement bump knobs would fit but I had read on Amazon it required “some modification” to work. It would have taken me hours to try to figure out how to adapt this but only a few minutes to complete after watching your video. *Although I would trust your 10mm washer method much more I didn’t want to make a trip to Ace if I could help it and found some kind of hard rubber plumbing piece that fit the 10mm hole diameter perfectly and just barely extended above that empty hexagon space and so far it works great but plan to pick up the washers later just in case the rubber part doesn’t last.

Thank you so much. I had lost hope. To others out there. You remove blue cap by prying it up with a flathead screwdriver. Follow the directions that come with the replacement head with the exception of the adapter and its replacement. Use 4 or 5 washers, old nut and old spring instead. Make sure you put the blue button on as far down as it will go. I didn't push it down far enough and spent far too much time muttering 4 letter words. :) Also to remove old assembly it helps to hold center screw in place with a flathead screwdriver while you turn assembly to remove it. Then drop the nut out of it so you can use it to attach new head. Good luck. You got this.

I watched your video and did the change over however instead of using washers I drilled a hole in one of the fittings that came with it the same size as the shaft , then I ground the ends off and basically had me a hex head washer .It worked great.I loved your video it saved me the price of a new weed eater and when this head goes bad another 19 dollars and I'm good to go .....Thank you very informative video.
@brucearrington12454 жыл бұрын
Brian Hollifield hey Brian, I took your suggestion and also progressively reamed out one of the fittings to fit the hex opening. I didn’t grind it off so my original square nut rides a little high but I got it tight. I did have to clip off the little pyramid in the top of the spring cap. Maybe tomorrow I’ll take it back apart and grind the fitting down a little like you did.

What a legend. TY for the video. My Kobalt spool wore down and broke. If your spool head is in good condition the T25 Button Knob is a direct replacement for the original kobalt head. My outer cover was shot also so I went with this method and replaced it all.

It’s a shame that kobalt. Replacement parts are so hard to find Iwould steer clear of them for the future..I am trying to find a spare replacement for my 80 volt string trimmer customer service sucks. Had the same issue with my 80 volt lawnmower blade. I always try to keep space parts for all my equipment ..kobalt has to do a better job of making parts available.
@promiseknight4 жыл бұрын
you can remove the old head entirely. Right behind the old head is a hole. Insert a screwdriver into that hole and rotate the head until you find the stop. The screw driver will slide into a slot and stop the head from rotating. Then you can spin off the old head. If it does not seem to work, try the other direction. I dont know if I was just confused, or the threads may be reversed. The new head fits right back on the same shaft. I just did it with my weed eater and I didnt need any extra parts. Then I finished a section to test it. It worked out great, and like Philip said, the new head will work better in the long run.

promiseknight yours was the most helpful comment on the internet, because I can’t see how to get the base of the old head off, the nut and shaft are shrouded in plastic like they are protected from an invading army.

Thank you for this comment!!! I had the older model. I searched the top of head on the outside and found the grass covered hole you mentioned. Sure enough got Allen wrench down it found the notch that kept it from spinning and was able to finally take the head off my KST180-06 plug in weed eater. Thank you for leaving this knowledge here. ❤

Philip, I just did the replacement for my KOBALT 40v model: KST 130x. Thank you kindly for your video & suggestion!
@tammyshocker96453 жыл бұрын
Did you use the old larger spring on the Kobalt 40v KST 130x or the smaller spring that came with the new T 25 head?
@leonidasdelbosque70683 жыл бұрын
Sorry it took me a while to answer but I used the one that comes with the kit.
@Coolusername3 жыл бұрын
Like a few other, I drilled out the T25 hex nut to fit over the Kobalt bolt. Thought I solved the problem but found a new one. The problem now is the square Kobalt nut backs itself off the threads while using and the trimmer head comes completely off

Thank you for taking the time to post this. My original kobalt head exploded last week. Neither the Kobalt or Lowe’s hotlines picked up my call. I was ready to toss my trimmer into the trash, because like you said, there’s no other suppliers. This took me just 30 minutes to replace. The two companies’ heads are nearly identical.
@74avega4 жыл бұрын
How'd you replace it?
@joycewest72443 жыл бұрын
Does not work on mine. The Kobalt bolt is too small for the hex opening in the T25 head and it just spins around.

@philtymps4 жыл бұрын
Sorry about that. By the time I decided to make the video I had the unit already torn down. The intent of the video was to provide an alternative to the OEM part because it is very scarce and hard to find.
@curtisshaw17814 жыл бұрын
Philip Tympanick how did you get the old one off? The nut is built into the plastic housing like Fort Bragg,, and there is no button to push to stop it from spinning around.
@jscottbell13 жыл бұрын
Curtis Shaw Mine came off very easily with just a slotted screw driver BUT most rotorized machinery from table saws to weed eaters spin clockwise so the threads and bolts are usually “reverse threaded”. Turn right to loosen (clockwise) and left (counter clockwise to tighten them) which is opposite of how we do most other things.

ok this went waaaay too easy following the video and everyone's comments... I just hope it doesnt blow up on me as usually these things take me a lot longer to troubleshoot and fix... so keeping my fingers crossed. My son is coming over today to cut the grass and will try it out. will update later. one thing I will say as far as the design of this vs the stock Kobalt head...this seems much improved and easier to reload...

You use the original bolt from the old head not the ones that came with the T25 head.
@joycewest72443 жыл бұрын
@@philtymps The old bolt spins inside the T25 hex since it is not big enough to engage the hex opening of the head so the head does not spin

I recently solved the mystery! The works brand that Lowe’s sells has two sku’s, one of them fit perfectly on the Kobalt. They are only $6. Order both if not sure and send the one that doesn’t work back. You have to order online, and I picked up in store. Mystery solved for $6.

Just tried this. Got the 10mm washers put them in and did not move freely. The T25 and the Kolbalt heads are different. The t25 is rounded on the bottom. The Kolbalt is"lifted" up so there is no friction. I put the t25 on and won't move freely. Even tried a washer under there as well as took the round plate off the kolbalt one(attached by 4 screws) and put it on the t25 to no avail. Looks like i may have to pony up for a different weed eater. Any recommendations. One that is batter operated and has parts?
@joycewest72443 жыл бұрын
Same problem. No replacement parts makes the Kobalt a throwaway. Learned my lesson I guess.
@rosspeake57393 жыл бұрын
I had the same issue. Make sure you have the original hardware from the Kobalt head. It’s the very bottom metal piece, it goes on before any of the washers or nuts and helps the head move freely. It’s about 1” tall and sits on the bearing near the motor. You’ll also need to make sure it’s not on upside down. I initially installed upside down and the head would not move freely. Good luck. These Kobalt trimmers are a pain, especially if you have the gen 1 like I do.
@UsRanger3 жыл бұрын
Lol.. Holy shit. Mine was upside down too.. Seems good now. I'll try it this afternoon. Thanks. You just saved me about 130.00 on a new trimmer. 👍

@UsRanger3 жыл бұрын
It worked pretty well. My only problem was I think the bolt inside tightened up after about 30 min of trimming and wouldn't spin. I took it apart and loosened the bolt a little. Works again. My question is, Is this going to be a recurring problem? Or is there a way to rectify this?
