First flight with the GoPro mounted on the wing. I also set up a Handy-cam on a tripod to capture things from a different angle. I've been having a little trouble achieving full-stall landings with the proper 3 point stance. I also struggle with proper tail-high attitude on take off. The Firefly makes you feel like you are about to nose over all of the time. The new camera angle helps me figure out what is going on. Winds were cross at about 8 mph. You can see them get a hold of me on a couple of the takeoffs and landings.

Cool video! I like the Kolbs. Went to the factory a couple of weeks ago and met all of the workers. Nice people!

I can see that you are a very meticulous builder and flyer. That's good and that's what it takes. You did very well on your maiden flight by keeping that airspeed up. That's where a lot of pilots go wrong (slowing down too much on landing).

Nice little plane. I've always liked the look of the Kolb design, IMHO it is more pleasing to the eye that some other ultralight designs.

More than watching the tail from crosswind and torque..(at 5:30). I was looking at all the birds you were about to go by and thru!!!!! Nice video though!

I'm not sure you monitor this any longer, but how did you extend your instrument panel? I'm just about ready to finish my Firefly and I would like a bigger/closer layout.

It’s a custom extension that I built from scratch. I needed more room and wanted to be able to reach things too. It was a lot of work. I don’t have plans for it.

what kind of motor do you have and whats your adv speed and fuel burn at what rpms?

kyle hanson Rotax 447. 2.9 gph at 5100 rpm and about 62 mph.

Why not use the runway? I see this often with UL's

Bass Player There are many reasons. The most significant one has to do with the fact that a taildragger is a lot less likely to ground loop in a cross wind when operating on grass. I prefer grass for a few more reasons. There's less wear and tear on the tires. My home field has a rough runway that causes my hard rubber tail wheel to jar the plane quite a bit, so I stay off it most of the time. Grass also provides natural braking, so no need to ever use the brakes either.

I thought as much rudder as these UL's have that would not be a problem. Do you have differential braking? The only time I have had a tail dragger want to swap ends was when the mains were close to the CG or/and the rudder was small. If I was going to get an Ultralight I think I would want one of these Kolbs, I saw one up close years ago at Sun & Fun. I enjoy your videos, Thanks...

Its weight is well above the ultralight limit. Plus, I carry 10 gallons of fuel. The UL limit of 5 gallons is pretty restrictive.
