first time i have seen a nanospace lift installed. it is a lot easier and less graft than we had to do in the 70s and 80s with high speed passenger lifts.

Ohhhh smart. If I interpret this correctly the counterweights are a bit overbalanced to coax a bit more payload from the motor since this seems to be push/pull. Elegant system.

When I saw the controller on the 1st floor right next to the elevator in a panel I then knew it was a MRL (Machine Room Less) system before the bottom mounted drive machine was even shown. They take much less power then the larger geared and gearless drive machines in a rooftop/basement elevator machine room.

Wish there was an option to not have the motor in a pit. Live in Florida and our community was built in the early 70's and the elevators need to be replaced. But, one of the issues is they need to get everything out of the pit due to tropical season at least once or twice a year flooding the pit area. As a result they have to shut down the elevators during any high rain periods to prevent the motors from being shorted.

I know of cable lift elevators and hydraulic elevator for just a few floors. But I have wondered why elevators did not use a jack screw mechanism. I suppose the flex in the drive screw would be a problem with taller installations. Screw drive would be very smooth and quiet with little car fall risk except for major structural failure.
@DerSolinski
@DerSolinski 9 ай бұрын
Screw lifts exist but only in very small industrial applications and then only with a very low head. They are *very* expensive to build and to maintain. Also slow as F. They are only one step up from gear lifts, yes with a rack and pinion.
@TheTheo58
@TheTheo58 4 жыл бұрын
This installation looks similar to an Otis Gen 2 MRL with compensating sheaves top of the shaft guiding the rope from the counterweight of a 2:1 roping normally anchored to the top of the shaft, but over to the opposite (left side) of the cab. Right side ropes upwards to the gear-less machine's driven sheave to the compensating sheave on the counterweight. The elevators were recently modded this year, compensating sheaves were placed top of the cab, one each end. Hoist ropes were anchored on cab side, and counterweight side top of hoist-way.

A marvellous piece of engineering, but it's concerning that both the motor and its control unit are located at the bottom of the lift pit. All it takes is one leak/flood and your motor is fried.
