To celebrate 10 years of the MonsterVerse, we'll review every entry in this epic cinematic universe! Continuing our journey, we discuss 2017's Kong Skull Island, the formal start to the MonsterVerse, and the first entry chronologically. With Monarch on the brink of collapse, Monarch barely pulls off securing an expedition to Skull Island aided by a team of soldiers, some scientists, a reporter, and a tracker. Upon arrival to the island, the 8th wonder of the world appears, defending his territory and leaving them stranded and scattered across the land where God did not finish creation.

Love the 360 shots and daytime shots we get in this movie. Love that Kong got his trilogy with Skull Island, GvK, and GxK.

My favorite of the Monsterverse thus far. Yes, the Vietnam locations, were just a sight to behold, much like say a Ray Harrhausen feature with the rugged background of the Spain locals filling in for either a Greek or an Arabian Nights adventure.

It still baffles me why Legendary didn't keep Jordan around. He made the film earn half a billion dollars and gave audiences the perfect blend of human and monster usage that no other MV film has been able to recreate. It's also sad that we can't see the humans in the modern world cause they would look so different but I would not mind if we were able to use them in the same time period with another monster. As always Godzilla will be my king but KSI will always be the alpha movie in the Monsterverse.

From what I heard the director of KSI himself didn't want to work on anymore MV movies because of the stress that KSI caused him.

I completely agree. The team knocked it out of the park with this film and yet, they just disappeared. The cast wasn’t utilized again nor the crew. There are plenty of ways to tell stories with these characters leading up to Godzilla 2014. I’d love to see more from them. Jordan wanted time off after KSI because it was an intensely stressful situation. By the time he showed interest in coming back, Legendary had moved on in too many different ways and is taking things too slowly with no roadmap for the MonsterVerse to make room for him.

The thing that really got me sold on this and kotm is the atmosphere surrounding the titans, kong is this mysterious force that actually has a personality behind it, Godzilla is an ancient protector who works like a force of nature, but surprisingly isn't completely unstoppable, showing that he is no god (yet) and Ghidorah is just perfect for the villain with his menacing presence and constant threat whenever he's on screen, you can feel the tension when hes around, that's why these 2 are my favorite, and why Shimo was one of the greatest let downs, she had so much potential but she left no impact on me, and that's sad because I REALLY like her design and concept.

Great review! Godzilla will always be my most favorite kaiju but I still have a ton of respect for Kong and Skull island is definitely one of the best in the monsterverse. Fantastic cinematography/special effects and likeable human characters. I suspect that the unmade Kong Rising film basically became this project which is neat

Godzilla's the goat, but Kong Skull Island reigns supreme. It's just such a well-made movie! I can't get enough of it.

Epic Review D Man1954. I love Kong Skull Island, it’s my favorite Kong Film along with the Peter Jackson Remake. Looking forward to the next MonsterVerse May Episode.

People thought charles dance was james conrad from kong skull island as an older version because Mike dougherty did said that "one skull island character will return" but thank God it was not conrad because I knew james conrad won't betray monarch or anything

AH yes Kong Skull Island, my Thoughts about Kong Skull Island, comming out in 2017, a Pretty Rough Year for me(had to remove a wisdom tooth, First YT Channel had to be deleted and of course Where is Skittles was a project i worked on tho rushed a bit and could had been better) and a Year That was looking to have alot of Movies that won´t the Best, im honestly Very Happy Kong skull Island came out and it´s Easily the Best Movie of 2017 and one of the Monstervere´s Best movies alongside King of the Monsters and Godzilla 2014, the Music is Awesome and i did use it in a video(that was a victim of the old channel been deleted) also I gotta Say Brie Larson Was Awesome in this movie as Mason Weaver, especially when she Shot the Skull Devil RIGHT in the Face with that FleraGun, Why i bring that up IDK but i Can say i got a Thing for Badass Tomboy characters like that in media with Yoko Littner to Blame for that. What else can i say? Kong Skull Island gave birth to the Monsterverse after G14.

I like this movie, but I have to be honest, the middle part of it is probably my least favorite part of the Monsterverse movie franchise. I think that Skull Island was very underwhelming compared to its 2005 version, and since the title was Kong "Skull Island" I expected much more focus on this aspect of the movie. Plus, I just wasn't that connected to the human cast, but Packard is still my favorite Monsterverse human villain. This is probably my least favorite MV movie, yet is still a great monster movie.
