Continuing our journey, we discuss 2021's Skull Island, the animated series that kicked off phase 2 of the MonsterVerse! Set as a distant sequel to Kong Skull Island, Skull Island tells the story of two shipwrecked crews stranded on Skull Island forced to work together for their own survival when faced with threats both on and off the island.

I have never understood the excessive hatred for this series and I don't know what people expected about a product that was sold as a look at Skull Island from another point of view, of course it does not compare to the one from 2017 but it is not as bad as many people say, it's good to see a positive review like this

Yeah I too enjoyed the 2 final episodes the most for how much they add to the character of King Kong. But that’s not to say the show as a WHOLE is boring. It’s relatively okay

My perspective might be different but I watched this with my niece and she loved it which helped made me enjoy it too. It was her gateway into the monsterverse and for that, I’m grateful for the series existence.

I was underwhelmed upon watching the show for the fist time, but a binge of the season with my younger brother, who really loved it, helped me appreciate it so much more.

8:11 the segment of the video hold up with what I said definitely needs to be a writers room so they can correct all these continuity errors. Whoever is the next writer or any future monsters project will make sure to oversee the other projects to make sure they are in line but not to the point that they restrict creativity.

Great review man! Regardless of it's issues I still enjoyed this one as well. I think it should have definitely had a definitive ending since it looks like it'll end with many unanswered questions

Hell this series is great. I just finished if for my 4th time. I really would love to see a 2nd Season. Also Remember this plays off in the 90ties. Many years has past between Kong: Skull Island till the Skull Island Animated Series.

i enjoyed the hell out of this show when it first released. sure it was corny at times, but it makes you feel at least something about the characters. they have personalities and therefore the opportunity to enjoy their moments. it’s barely a monsterverse entry but that doesn’t mean it’s bad.

I enjoyed this series much like the Pacific Rim anime. They are entertaining distant cousins of their live action counterparts in my eyes.

This show had so much potential, with so much wasted on episodes that did not only very little with the story but the same with the characters. The animation was fantastic, and most of the kong story beats were pretty good. If we get a season 2, they need to overhaul the storytelling and the characters' dialog and personalities.

Going to catch heat for being too positive about this lol Tiamat would seem likely to be the mystery creature being searched for but I’m not up on my lore that deep to see if the timeline works. So many open threads left that I hope season 2 would also sneak into existence. Probably better odds of that than SP season 2 seemingly 😅 If possible, would enjoy seeing you be able to do an edit of episodes 3 & 4 into one to better the pacing and flow.

I don't doubt it, but that would be crazy considering I'm pretty mixed on the show. I do like it as a piece of King Kong media, but not as a part of the MonsterVerse. Tiamat is in hibernation on land during the events of this series, so she couldn't be the Titan he saw. Very true. There's about no chance of a Singular Point Season 2. I think you'd need to do a total re-write of those episodes to make that work.

After I watched Netflix Skull Island, the show itself kinda feels off and not something that's part of the MV due to the plot, art style, and characters. The reason why is because the series felt like another spin-off series with an avatar ish style without looking like something that is monsterverse material, which kinda makes it a loose canon series. the series should've been a prequel series that take place in the 1930s (years before the events in 1973-95), where it explains the origin story about the survivors of the Wanderer, how they encountered and discovered the existence of skull island which would be paying homage to the 1933 film and inspired by the lost world. But since rumors say that the series may or may not have a second season, whatever is the studios decision let's just hope it delivers plot and decent lore in order to gain its redemption while finding its place in the MV continuity, if legendary decides to make this series canon or non canon....(probably non canon 😂)

Your gripes with this series are pretty much mine. these are mine: 1. just about anything that connects this series with Kong Skull Island lore/plotwise or environmentally is either absent or so minor it could be cut 2. things never go explained, Dog's origin, the 2nd tribe of Spanish natives, etc 3. the akward dragging of the college thing 4. Annie and the characters always bickering and come off as borderline unlikable at times 5. (and me personally) I don't like many of the new designs as they feel more like rejected studio Gihibli film creatures than something we'd see in the monsterverse I did like the series (more than the camera one they had on Netflix) but at the same time it frustrates me because how disjointed it feels

The reason why this show is out of place in the monster-verse is because this takes place in the other side of skull island hence why it is so out of place and that skull island is a big island with lots of creatures.

@@tomekbuganski232 We explored the island from south to north and from middle to west in Kong Skull Island. That leaves a small pocket to the east that we didn't visit. This show didn't put any proper attention into the geography of the island. Even still, it created so many countless continuity errors in the process of telling the story it did.

What I meant to say is that there were large portions of the island that have been left unexplored. The Kong skull island tabletop game literally explains this. So this might be the reason.

The only way to have a well connected verse is to make sure the same person makes each project. The second you switch up directors/creators they make it their own. Godzilla 2014 to KOTM is the best example of this. Michael Dougherty really had the nerve to start that movie off with showing Godzilla raging through San Francisco with different spikes then that of Gareth Edwarda 2014 Godzilla did 😑 Skull island anime is its own thing. In the day n age of multiverse and multi-timelines blah blah it’s just disgraceful. With all that said Skull island anime is a fun little watch not worthy of rewatching.

Canon and expectives aside, this show had potential but as it is boring,plus i didnt liked the human characthers plus it needed better more interesting monsters,to me(in My opinion) this show isn't canon
