Clay - I've done the same colorization to mine for 30+ years however I use Testor's Model Enamel paint (in the small 1 oz bottles) and use Zippo lighter fluid to wipe the excess off about 2 minute after application. The lighter fluid does not really remove any paint that is in the engraving and there is no need to use a razor which could scratch the Chrome. Try it! Plus... the Testor's is extremely durable - lasts for many many years and there are a plethora of colors to choose from. Hint - use a wooden toothpick to apply - much neater than a brush.

You can also use a calligraphy pen to fill it in using capillary. It's the same thing as filling panel lines on a model with panel liner (really thinned out enamel paint)

Try a lacquer stick one of these days, You basically use it like a crayon over what your trying to fill and just wipe away the excess, works great if your trying to do a whole socket set 🤘🤘

I just spray a rattle can into a cup and use a q tip to apply the markings then wipe off the excess with some denatured alcohol before the paint fully cures.

That's a great idea. I'm a fan of using a wash bottle and acetone or lacquer thinner to clean off tools, but lately I started using citrus cleaner for the same job, so maybe it'll resist taking the paint off quickly. Only one way to find out.

A couple years ago SK released the LP90 series, and they had green selector switches. It was cool looking, and I wanted to take them off my Snap-on ratchets and anodize them. I'm gonna have to revisit that and paint some too. I'm thinking red, white and blue!

Aye, that's the rub; how do you know when to stop painting in the recesses on all of your tools. Once you get started, you may not be able to stop. I've decided to just leave mine in chrome. The paint will eventually be removed over time, and then you have to re-do it and....no, thanks.

Thank you Clay. Great idea. I am thinking about doing this with my sockets with white and yellow to make the sizes easier to see. I am using old Snap On ratchets and want to upgrade to locking flex heads with soft grip handles. I have a couple with quick release. I don't remember hearing you discuss using the quick release. Do you like those? I know the anvil might be more likely to break but it is nice not having to fight oily sockets. I looked at your ratchet comparison video...is the Matco BRF128LFM still your favorite?

If that's one of those near needle point tips, its a tiny piece of stainless rod that acts like a plunger instead of the ball in a ballpoint pin. I'm worried it may have scratched your chrome. if you ever remove the paint give us an update please!
